Emma Mae

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] everyone!

I’d like opinions on the name [name_f]Emma[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f]. I adore the name [name_f]Emma[/name_f], and love the nicknames [name_f]Em[/name_f] and [name_f]Emmy[/name_f]! I know [name_f]Emma[/name_f] is very popular, but that doesn’t bother me because it is a classic, and it carries personal meaning.

The only problem I can see with [name_f]Emma[/name_f] is that I’m not sure it fits the middle name [name_f]Mae[/name_f]. [name_f]Mae[/name_f] is a family name for me, being my great grandmother’s middle name, grandmother’s middle name, aunt’s middle name, my middle name, and cousin’s middle name. I would like to carry on the tradition and give my daughter the same middle name one day. Does [name_f]Emma[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f] have too many M’s?

That is a lot of M’s. But it sounds like a long tradition, so in your case you’ll have to decide if it’s worth sacrificing flow in order to maintain the connection.

The name [name_f]Emma[/name_f] is beautiful! I think [name_f]Mae[/name_f] might have too many Ms/As/Es when paired with [name_f]Emma[/name_f], even though [name_f]Emma[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f] sounds cute. Would you consider [name_f]Emma[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f]? Or something similar?

I actually don’t see a problem with [name_f]Emma[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f]. I know it’s a lot of the same letters repeated, but the sound is different. It doesn’t sound bumbly. It’s adorable.

It’s a lot of m’s. But I think [name_f]Emma[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f] is pretty. I think family tradition is worth a few extra m’s.

If your lost name is an m or m-heavy name it might be too much.

I’m glad to see that the responses so far aren’t too bad! Would [name_f]Emma[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] be a better choice?

Between [name_f]Emma[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f] and [name_f]Emma[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] I do prefer [name_f]Emma[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]. It feels more distinctive. Given these are all short names I think you could get away with [name_f]Emma[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] of you wanted. (Or even [name_f]Emma[/name_f]-[name_f]Mae[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]).

I have a little second cousin named [name_f]Emma[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f], so it sounds fine to me.

I do think it’s very (though not too) M-heavy, have you thought about using another middle name to break up the Ms?
Something along the lines of [name_f]Emma[/name_f] [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f] (though any non-M-containing name could replace [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] here).

[name_f]Emma[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] is SO lovely!!! [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] the combination of these two names.

I would absolutely use [name_f]Mae[/name_f], whether as a first or middle name. To not only pass on part of your name but to be the sixth woman in your family to continue the tradition, I couldn’t imagine not using it. If [name_f]Emma[/name_f] is the first name you love I don’t have an issue with the combination.

Sorry, it just doesn’t work for me. I don’t think [name_f]Mae[/name_f] is too much of a stretch to be nn for [name_f]Emma[/name_f].

I think it’s beautiful. But, when I say it out loud, it sounds like MMA (mixed martial arts).
