Hard to choose. I think they are both fine.

In the UK [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] is very dated to the 70s and 80s. [name_f]Emma[/name_f] is more 80s/90s.

I know in the US [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] is seen as fresh and [name_f]Emma[/name_f] as tired.

I find [name_f]Emma[/name_f] more classic. I like the literary associations. But [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] has also been around for a long time and I like the “gem” meaning. But I dislike [name_f]Jemma[/name_f] and would be worried people would spell it that way.

I like [name_f]Emmy[/name_f] as a nickname better than [name_f]Gem[/name_f]. But I dislike [name_f]Em[/name_f].

Difficult. I think [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] feels tired to me too because the J sound was so common in the 80s and feels so out of style now (Jamie, [name_f]Jessica[/name_f], [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f], [name_f]Jenna[/name_f], [name_f]Jayla[/name_f], Jada).

I think I pick [name_f]Emma[/name_f]. I don’t love it, it very basic to me but I think it is easier to say and I don’t enjoy the J sound very much anymore. I think I don’t have a single J-sound name on my list.

But you can’t really go wrong they are both fine.

[name_f]Gemma[/name_f] is very sweet!
