We have three girls - [name_f]Maria[/name_f], [name_f]Silvia[/name_f], and [name_f]Clara[/name_f] - and are looking for names for a fourth (don’t know if it’s a boy or girl yet). We have tried to keep away from very popular names ([name_f]Clara[/name_f] was just under #100 though)…but now that I am thinking of a fourth girl name, I think [name_f]Emma[/name_f] would be a sweet and lovely match with our style. BUT it has been in the top 3 for years…What do you think, is [name_f]Emma[/name_f] way too overused these days to be an option? I personally don’t know any Emmas but apparently there must be tons out there!!
I do think [name_f]Emma[/name_f] is very popular, I know atleast 5 personally, but it is popular for a reason. Its a sweet lovely name. I also think it goes well with your other daughters names.
I like it with your sibset and I personally know only 2 Emmas, one of them being my best friend. The other one is a little kid, but I haven’t heard of a baby named [name_f]Emma[/name_f] in quite a while.
It’s beautiful for sure. But in my opinion, it’s is definitely overused.
[name_f]Emma[/name_f] is definitely one of the most popular and overused names in my area, perhaps behind only [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] and [name_f]Isabella[/name_f]. I’ve known at least 8-10. [name_f]Emma[/name_f] is pretty, but if popularity is a concern, I would look at different options.
It’s a pretty name that would work well in your sibset. I know at least a dozen girls named [name_f]Emma[/name_f] though so I’m personally way over it.
Thank you for the feedback! I think I better just get over it and walk away
Any other suggestions? Other ideas are [name_f]Juliette[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], Léa, [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f], [name_f]Monica[/name_f], [name_f]Antonia[/name_f]. Thought of [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] but rhymes with [name_f]Maria[/name_f]…thought of [name_f]Vera[/name_f] but rhymes with [name_f]Clara[/name_f]!!
I know many little girls named [name_f]Emma[/name_f] (I’m an elementary school teacher). However, it is probably the only popular name I never get tired of.
It’s gorgeous, timeless, and classic. It also goes with your other daughter’s names beautifully. If you love it, you should use it (though perhaps, choose a more uncommon middle name?).
Yes in my opinion [name_f]Emma[/name_f] is uber-popular.
I think [name_f]Emme[/name_f], [name_f]Esme[/name_f], [name_f]Jane[/name_f], [name_f]Leah[/name_f], [name_f]Bea[/name_f], [name_f]Ana[/name_f], [name_f]Fern[/name_f], [name_f]Alice[/name_f], [name_f]Maeve[/name_f], [name_u]Josie[/name_u], [name_f]Millie[/name_f], [name_f]Maisie[/name_f], [name_u]Eden[/name_u]/[name_f]Eve[/name_f] are all good options!
Yes, [name_f]Emma[/name_f] is popular, but I’ve only met one. [name_u]Ever[/name_u]. I would be wary of [name_f]Emma[/name_f]'s popularity, because there’s no way that’s slowing, and I tell this to everyone, but there’s a chance if you pick an uber-popular name, you still won’t come across one ever. Same with boys. I have met and known only one [name_m]Liam[/name_m]. And he wasn’t born when [name_m]Liam[/name_m] was popular. But do you know what’s popular for me? [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] and [name_m]William[/name_m]. And many variations of [name_f]Georgia[/name_f].
[name_f]IMO[/name_f], [name_f]Emma[/name_f] is overused and not a name I would want to use. But then again, any name with over 1,000 occurrences in a year is overused to me. Ourbabynamer is a great site to use to search for the popularity of a name. As someone stated above me, [name_f]Emme[/name_f] would be a great substitute. Has the elegance, but much less common.
I’m probably going against the majority here but I don’t think [name_f]Emma[/name_f] is too popular. Yes, I know a lot of adult [name_f]Emma[/name_f]'s, but guaranteed an [name_f]Emma[/name_f] born now will be the only one in her class amongst [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]'s, [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]'s, and [name_u]Harper[/name_u]'s.
You could always use [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] nn [name_f]Emma[/name_f]?
Its a very pretty name, and it goes so well with your girls names. It is very popular, but then again, both of my step sons have top 10 names, and we haven’t met many other children with either name.
Thanks! I’ve wondered about that too… My name was #19 when I was born, but I’ve known a total of maybe 4 people with my name, and definitely not all at once!
I’d say my name style is classic and traditional while still feeling fresh. It’s hard to find those perfect matches that aren’t boringly out of style and also not too trendy.
I vote for use it.
Nowadays, even the most popular names aren’t nearly as previlant as the popular names in the 80s or 90s were, since so many people are using a plethora of different, unique names and styles.
I agree with the poster who is a teacher and supported using [name_f]Emma[/name_f]. Use a less classic middle, and you could always double it up if you want.
[name_f]Emma[/name_f] is downright charming. (I wouldn’t say that for just any popular name…)
Adding that the popularity of the name may change depending on where you live! My name was #18 the year I was born, and I know several girls with my name either my age or older (and many more younger) so I tend to trust the national stats but definitely look at your state’s data.
That’s a good point! Though I just looked up my state and it was #1 on the most recent year. For some reason I just can’t seem to find an alternative that has the same feeling… Simple, sweet, feminine, and classic. I don’t feel annoyed by the name because I personally haven’t met millions of [name_f]Emma[/name_f]'s to make me sick of it, but I do feel annoyed by other names that are super overused…I have a feeling I would regret it if it ended up that way after choosing the name.
I think I may have come up with a much less common alternative that we like… [name_f]Paloma[/name_f]!
I do feel [name_f]Emma[/name_f] is super overused and I dont care for it!
What about:
[name_f]Gemma[/name_f]
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] (this is also very common but I prefer it over [name_f]Emma[/name_f])
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]
[name_f]Emberly[/name_f]
[name_f]Mila[/name_f]
I prefer these! I also have a friend just naming her baby [name_f]Emmy[/name_f] which is kinda refreshing! But definitely go for what you love!!
