I’m sure many of you DREAD my posts–I have been ALL over the place, but I’m just wondering your thoughts on [name]Emme[/name] (pronounced [name]Emmy[/name])… We have thought about alternative spellings, but just really prefer the spelling [name]Emme[/name] rather than [name]Emmy[/name], [name]Emmi[/name], [name]Emmie[/name] but still want it be prounounced correctly and not get mistaken for [name]Em[/name] all the time. Other name contenders are: [name]Isla[/name], [name]Anna[/name] and [name]Ada[/name]. MN would be [name]June[/name]. I’m feeling really good about [name]Emme[/name] because I wanted a name to honor my great-grandma, [name]Elma[/name], and I feel like with [name]Emme[/name] I can justify that. Sisters names are MaeLee [name]Ann[/name] goes by [name]Mae[/name] and [name]Lucy[/name] [name]Rae[/name]…Any opinions would be appreciated! Thanks so much!
I personally love [name]Emme[/name]! You will get other posters that engourage you to use [name]Emme[/name] as a nickname. I am of the persuasion that you name the child what it will be called. It also fits great with your other girls. Good [name]Luck[/name] deciding!
I think [name]Emme[/name] is great as a first name. However, expect a lot of people to say it “[name]Em[/name]” (like the letter M). Think about [name]Elle[/name]- it’s pronounced like the letter L, not like [name]Ellie[/name]. [name]Esme[/name] on the other hand is pronounced ez-[name]MAY[/name], but that’s because it should have an apostrophe over the second E. E’s at the end of words, and names, are usually silent- think [name]Jake[/name], [name]Mike[/name], [name]Belle[/name], etc. So, if you love [name]Emme[/name] pronounced [name]Em[/name]-ee, I would just spell it that way, either [name]Emmie[/name] or [name]Emmy[/name], though I think the latter is preferable since it makes the transition better into adulthood. The [name]Emmy[/name] spelling is really no more nicknamey than [name]Lucy[/name]. Otherwise, she’ll be saying “It’s [name]Emme[/name], pronounced [name]Em[/name]-ee” for her whole life.
As a side note, off your list I adore [name]Ada[/name]. It’s one of my absolute favorites!
Good luck!
[name]Emmy[/name] is what my dad calls me, so I love it! I also like it spelled [name]Emme[/name]. The model [name]Emme[/name] is pretty popular. I don’t think you will have many problems with pronunciation. People will catch on quickly.
I think [name]Emme[/name] is lovely, and I wouldn’t assume it should be pn ‘[name]Em[/name]’ personally. Others will, but its a pretty easy fix. As a pp said, I do prefer it as an nn, but if you’re going to use [name]Emme[/name], I like the ‘e’ at the end better than the ‘y’ as it looks more grown-up.
