Emmeline, Annabel & Henrietta

After breaking my heart by having to rule out the name [name]Juliet[/name] on discovering that [name]Julie[/name] was the middle name of my very evil mother in law, we have finally come up with a short list of 2 possible girls names to go with that of our current daughter [name]Emmeline[/name] (pn [name]Emme[/name]-leen)… These are:

[name]Annabel[/name] and [name]Henrietta[/name]

Which do you prefer? Which goes best? Also we never shorten [name]Emmeline[/name]'s name so would it be odd if we shortened [name]Henrietta[/name] to [name]Hetty[/name]? Any help (or other ideas) gratefully received!!!

(Ps. We’re in the UK)

I love [name]Henrietta[/name] and I love it with [name]Emmeline[/name]. I would shorten it to [name]Etta[/name] but [name]Hetty[/name] is cute. I don’t think it’s weird if one has a nickname and the other doesn’t. If [name]Emmeline[/name] wants a nickname, she can always have one when she decides she wants it.

Well, I like the way [name]Emmaline[/name] sounds if it is pronounced [name]Emma[/name]-lyn better than [name]Emma[/name]-leen, and [name]Henrietta[/name] just sounds like it would be for a big, manly woman. What about the name [name]Francesca[/name] and call her [name]Frankie[/name], or [name]Juniper[/name] and call her [name]Juni[/name]? Also the name [name]Guinevere[/name] is beautiful and you could call her [name]Gwen[/name] for short.

I think [name]Henrietta[/name] flows better with [name]Emmeline[/name]. I guess because [name]Emmeline[/name] and [name]Annabel[/name] have the same syllable counts and similar sound beginnings([name]Emma[/name], [name]Anna[/name]) I think [name]Henrietta[/name] works better.

I love [name]Henrietta[/name], such a beautiful name. It sounds perfect with [name]Emmeline[/name]. [name]Hetty[/name] is an adorable nickname and no I don’t think it would be weird if you shortened [name]Hetty[/name]'s name!

I hope this helps!

[name]Henrietta[/name]! It is a name I absolutely love!

I seem to be in the minority, but I like [name]Annabel[/name]. However, I prefer the spelling of “[name]Annabelle[/name]”, but whatever you like best!

I love [name]Annabel[/name] with [name]Emmeline[/name]!

I think [name]Emmeline[/name] and [name]Annabel[/name] are perfect together!

I love both [name]Emmeline[/name] and [name]Annabel[/name], but something about pairing them seems too perfect or too familiar (as libbyj also noted). [name]Henrietta[/name] fits with [name]Emmeline[/name], but has its own distinctive vibe. I think that using a nn for one child, but not another is perfectly fine. [name]Hetty[/name] is ok, but I love [name]Etta[/name].

[name]Henrietta[/name] for sure. It stands up to [name]Emmeline[/name], whereas I don’t think [name]Annabel[/name] does. It’s pretty, but a tad on the boring side for me.

I like [name]Annabel[/name]. (Spelt this way) It has strength and grace. It also has [name]Edgar[/name] [name]Allen[/name] [name]Poe[/name] cred, which is a plus for me.

I’d prefer [name]Hazel[/name] to [name]Henrietta[/name], which is just a bit too… something… for me. I’m not fond of [name]Hetty[/name] or [name]Etta[/name]. [name]Hazel[/name] is a bit spare and understated. I would have said [name]Helene[/name] but [name]Helene[/name] rhymes with [name]Emmaline[/name] and I wouldn’t really do that.

[name]Emmeline[/name] + [name]Henrietta[/name] = excellence

I would absolutely swoon to meet sisters named [name]Emmeline[/name] and [name]Henrietta[/name].
