Emmeline: How do YOU pronounce?

I love this name as a possibility for a baby girl but am concerned that no one will know exactly how to pronounce it - after all, I am not sure, myself! [name_f]Do[/name_f] you guys pronounce it: [name_f]Emme[/name_f]-LEEN, [name_f]Emme[/name_f]-[name_u]LYNN[/name_u], or [name_f]Emme[/name_f]-[name_f]LINE[/name_f] ??

[name_f]My[/name_f] first instinct when reading it in a book recently was [name_f]Emme[/name_f]-LEEN, but I did later run into someone with the name who was [name_f]Emme[/name_f]-[name_f]LINE[/name_f] and had one of those Why-didn’t-I-think-of-that moments.

Would love any input, thanks!

I say it like [name_f]Emma[/name_f] + line (like, a straight line between two points)

I prefer the emma line pronunciation. I am personally not fond of the leen pronunciation, same is true for [name_f]Madeline[/name_f], [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], [name_f]Adeline[/name_f], etc.

I pronounce it [name_f]Emma[/name_f]-Leen. Such a cute name

[name_f]Emma[/name_f]-leen sounds nicer

[name_f]Emma[/name_f]-line. [name_u]Love[/name_u] the [name_m]Ben[/name_m] Folds song (although it’s spelled [name_f]Emaline[/name_f]). The [name_f]Emma[/name_f]-leen pronunciation just sounds like [name_f]Emily[/name_f] with an n tacked on.

This is how I say it.

I say it like Emmaleen, because that would be the “natural” pronunciation in my native language (which isn’t English).

I also say [name_f]Emma[/name_f]-leen, but now I’ve heard more -line’s so I am confused.

Instinctively, I say Emm-eh-line, but I prefer Emm-eh-leen  ([name_f]Emma[/name_f] is two syllables when I say it, so I’ve separated it for this).

I naturally thought it was [name_f]Emma[/name_f]-leen. I think its because the [name_f]Emme[/name_f]- beginning looks [name_m]French[/name_m] and so I assumed it was pronounced as if it were a [name_m]French[/name_m] pronunciation

I’ve been debating whether I prefer it pronounced [name_f]Emma[/name_f]-leen or [name_f]Emma[/name_f]-line myself. I think I prefer [name_f]Emma[/name_f]-leen. It’s a lovely name either way. I don’t think [name_f]Emma[/name_f]-lyn seems like a natural pronunciation for this name.

[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] is [name_f]Emme[/name_f]-line to me.
[name_f]Emeline[/name_f] I pronounce Eme-leen/[name_f]Emme[/name_f]-leen.

I pronounce it [name_f]Emma[/name_f]-leen, and that’s definitely my favourite pronunciation.

I read it as [name_f]Emme[/name_f]-leen.

I say Emmaleen.

Since it’s of [name_m]French[/name_m] origin, I pronounce the ending as “leen” not “line”.

I always say it [name_f]Emma[/name_f]-line

I pronounce it [name_f]Emme[/name_f]-LEEN

emme-line. And I think that’s the most common way of saying it in the US, or was anyway, but it hasn’t been used much for awhile so nowadays all bets are off really. That’s how I would pronounce it if I were to use it. [name_f]Emme[/name_f]-leen sounds just like [name_f]Emily[/name_f], and would be confused for it all the time when said aloud. And I have reasons for wanting to avoid [name_f]Emily[/name_f], so it’s not that I dislike that pronunciation. [name_f]Emmelyn[/name_f] is usually pronounced emma-lynn and is more popular so it’s definitely one of those names everybody has their own ideas about but I’m not put off by that.
