We’re expecting baby number three and our first girl and I’m really leaning towards [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] as a first name, but struggling for middle names!
I like the idea of the nicknames [name_f]Em[/name_f]-J and [name_f]Emme[/name_f], but wondered what you thought of using [name_u]James[/name_u] as a middle name for a girl? No family connection, I’ve just always liked the name!
[name_u]James[/name_u] goes well with [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]'s nice name. It might confuse some people at first, but probably no one would think it was weird or strange.
Other ideas if you’d like something that feels like [name_u]James[/name_u], but seems more suited for girls:
[name_f]Jane[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosa[/name_f]/[name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_u]Jean[/name_u]
[name_f]Margaret[/name_f]
That’s off the top of my head, but I think you should just stick with [name_u]James[/name_u]. (If you’re having trouble, though, you could just ditch the middle name since [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]'s name is already pretty long.)
I would prefer to see a girl’s name in the middle spot, but if [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_u]James[/name_u] is just what clicks with you I think it’s fine.
I would use:
[name_f]Jane[/name_f]
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f]
I really like it! I love [name_u]James[/name_u] on a girl.
Thanks for the responses guys - [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is actually on my list too, I just thought [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_u]James[/name_u] has a nice ring to it and is a bit different to [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f]. I love [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], but we’re pronouncing it [name_f]Emma[/name_f]-leen, so it’s probably a bit much. Our surname is Grose, so I feel like I need a really pretty first name if this girl is to avoid any kind of teasing in the future! That’s why I like [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_u]James[/name_u] as well I think - if she wanted to she could use that as her whole name and it wouldn’t look incomplete.
If I can compromise on giving up the nickname MJ, I’ve been having a think about:
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f]
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u]
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] (which would work with MJ).
It works, but I prefer [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] :). I love [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]!
I’m honestly getting a bit sick of seeing [name_u]James[/name_u] used as a middle name for a girl. I feel like it’s one of those names that people feel really unique for using, but is actually becoming pretty expected or common. I swear a new celebrity uses it everyday. I think there are much better middle names out there. [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is pretty.
I don’t care for [name_u]James[/name_u] in general however I much prefer it on a girl and in the middle spot. I don’t think it’s all that popular of a girl name even though there are some celebrities using it. Celebrities make up a very small percentage of the population and you hear about them more often than the rest of the population. This may cause some to think certain names are very popular when they really aren’t. Anyway, [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_u]James[/name_u] has a great flow, girly first name with more masculine middle. Perfect combo!
I love [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f], and love the romantic sound of [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_u]James[/name_u] if [name_u]James[/name_u] was the surname, but [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_u]James[/name_u] [surname] throws me off a lot. Then again, I don’t like [name_u]James[/name_u] for a girl, sorry! I think [name_f]Em[/name_f]-J sounds adorable, though! What about one of these?
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f]
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f]
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Jasmine[/name_f]/[name_f]Jasmina[/name_f]
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Jolie[/name_f] (I love this! I’m generally not a huge proponent of [name_f]Jolie[/name_f], but [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Jolie[/name_f] is delightful.)
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Julia[/name_f]
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] (also unisex, but it seems less so than [name_u]James[/name_u] to me.)
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_u]Josie[/name_u]
Good luck!
