What do you guys think of the name [name]Emmeline[/name]? We really like it but we also love [name]Evangeline[/name] but feel they are too matchy to use both. Which do you prefer? Some middle names we like with [name]Emmeline[/name] are:

[name]Emmeline[/name] [name]Ruth[/name]
[name]Emmeline[/name] [name]Claire[/name]
[name]Emmeline[/name] [name]Rose[/name]
[name]Emmeline[/name] [name]Marie[/name] ([name]Marie[/name] is a family name but afraid it’s too much of a “filler” middle name)
[name]Emmeline[/name] [name]Grace[/name] (same problem- too much of a filler middle name)

Those same middle names sound nice with [name]Evangeline[/name] as well

[name]Evangeline[/name] [name]Ruth[/name]
[name]Evangeline[/name] [name]Claire[/name]
[name]Evangeline[/name] [name]Rose[/name]
[name]Evangeline[/name] [name]Marie[/name]
[name]Evangeline[/name] [name]Grace[/name]

We are so torn! We love both!

I love both [name]Emmeline[/name] and [name]Evangeline[/name]. I think the best way to decide which you want to use is to 1) think about nicknames, and 2) think about possible sibling names. For example, maybe you like [name]Evie[/name] or [name]Eva[/name] more than [name]Emmy[/name] or [name]Em[/name] - that would be a vote toward [name]Evangeline[/name]. But, maybe you are more of a fan of vintage classic names, which would be more toward [name]Emmeline[/name]'s direction. For me, I love names like [name]Lydia[/name] and [name]Charlotte[/name], so [name]Emmeline[/name] eventually won out on my list for future girls, but I do love both.

As for middle names, I’m going to assume you want a shorter middle name, yes? My favorites for [name]Emmeline[/name], personally, are [name]Emmeline[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name] and [name]Emmeline[/name] [name]Maria[/name]. Off your list, I think [name]Emmeline[/name] [name]Ruth[/name] and [name]Emmeline[/name] [name]Claire[/name] are perfect choices! As for [name]Emmeline[/name] [name]Marie[/name], it’s fine, but I like [name]Emmeline[/name] [name]Maria[/name] more, myself - [name]Emmeline[/name] [name]Molly[/name] or [name]Emmeline[/name] [name]Mary[/name] would also work to honor a [name]Marie[/name].

Now, I love something like [name]Evangeline[/name] [name]Alice[/name], [name]Evangeline[/name] [name]Emma[/name], [name]Evangeline[/name] [name]Gwyneth[/name], and [name]Evangeline[/name] [name]Lucy[/name], but off your list, I think [name]Evangeline[/name] [name]Claire[/name], [name]Evangeline[/name] [name]Rose[/name], and [name]Evangeline[/name] [name]Marie[/name] are lovely!

[name]Lemon[/name]

I like [name]Evangeline[/name] more, but I can see the appeal of [name]Emmeline[/name]- it seems a little less name to deal with. [name]Emmeline[/name] is also really close to [name]Emma[/name]/[name]Emily[/name] (especially if you pronounce the last syllable as “leen”) which makes it kind of boring and could cause some confusion. I think [name]Evangeline[/name] [name]Claire[/name] is absolutely stunning. I’d go with that!

Thanks for the suggestions and comments.

I guess it would have helped if I gave you the pronunciation  We like Emm-uh-line best. It sounds the most timeless to us. Some other possible sibling names we like are [name]Genevieve[/name], [name]Mathilde[/name], [name]Helena[/name], [name]Adelaide[/name], [name]Margot[/name] for girls and [name]Theodore[/name], [name]Arthur[/name] and [name]Conrad[/name] for boys.

With all that said, which name/sibling set do you like best?

That’s how I say [name]Emmeline[/name] as well - I’m a -line girl! With names like [name]Adelaide[/name], [name]Margot[/name], [name]Mathilde[/name] ([name]Mathilda[/name] or [name]Matilda[/name] would be superb!), [name]Arthur[/name], [name]Conrad[/name], and [name]Theodore[/name], I’d vote [name]Emmeline[/name]. Perfection.

I definitely think [name]Evangeline[/name] could be an excellent sister to [name]Helena[/name] and [name]Theodore[/name], too, and maybe [name]Genevieve[/name] - lots of similar sounds, though! - and [name]Margot[/name]…

[name]Lemon[/name]

Thanks for the reply [name]Lemon[/name]!

I love [name]Matilda[/name] with [name]Emmeline[/name] and am still trying to get hubby on board with it as a possible future sibling name. It could also be a cute middle name with [name]Emmeline[/name]. [name]Emmeline[/name] [name]Matilda[/name]-too cute!

Some other middle names we’ve come up are

[name]Emmeline[/name] [name]Victoria[/name] and [name]Emmeline[/name] [name]Violet[/name]. Which do you guys prefer? He likes
[name]Violet[/name] and I’m leaning more toward [name]Victoria[/name], although it is a bit
of a mouthful!

I’ve read that [name]Emmeline[/name] can be pronounced -line -leen or -lynn. My daughter was born in [name]August[/name] and we named her [name]Emmeline[/name] [name]Marie[/name] ([name]Marie[/name] is a family name for me, too). We pronounce is -lynn and I call her [name]Em[/name], [name]Emmy[/name] or [name]Emma[/name], or [name]Emmeline[/name] or [name]Emmeline[/name] [name]Marie[/name]. I love her name and although alot of people think as [name]Marie[/name] as a filler middle name, if it has meaning to you and you want to use it then you should. It has meaning to me and I don’t regret using it one bit. My mom and I have the middle name [name]Marie[/name], and my two sister’s firstborn daughters also have [name]Marie[/name] for their middle names. I am so happy to have my [name]Marie[/name] now. If you were using it just to use it then that is different.
I don’t know how much meaning it has to you, but that’s my story.

Anyways, I think [name]Emmeline[/name] (any pronunciation) and [name]Evangeline[/name] are both beautiful names. While I personally don’t like [name]Ruth[/name], [name]Claire[/name] or [name]Grace[/name], most of the combos sound nice. I find [name]Ruth[/name] a little too harsh with the softer [name]Emmeline[/name], and [name]Grace[/name] a little grating with [name]Evangeline[/name].

Are you a fan of nicknames? I already shared all of mine for [name]Emmeline[/name] (although you could also use [name]Lina[/name]). As for [name]Evangeline[/name]: [name]Eve[/name], [name]Eva[/name], [name]Evie[/name], [name]Angie[/name], [name]Lina[/name].

Oh, and [name]Emmeline[/name] [name]Victoria[/name], definitely. [name]Emmeline[/name] [name]Violet[/name] is very “i” heavy, although [name]Violet[/name] is also a very pretty name. [name]Victoria[/name] is a beautiful name.

[name]Emmeline[/name] [name]Victoria[/name] over [name]Emmeline[/name] [name]Violet[/name], for sure! [name]Emmeline[/name] [name]Violet[/name] has a lot of I-sounds in it. [name]Emmeline[/name] [name]Matilda[/name] is too cute, though - I love that! [name]Do[/name] you have a short last name, then? Here are more ideas:

[name]Lemon[/name]

[name]Emmeline[/name] [name]Frances[/name] is gorgeous, I love it! I am going to continue to try to get DH on board with it… he says [name]Emmeline[/name] [name]Frances[/name] sounds like a nun :frowning:

Ok… so I was babysitting a neighbor and we watched [name]Nanny[/name] [name]McPhee[/name] and one of the character’s names was [name]Evangeline[/name] and it made me re fall in love with it! Does that ever happen to any of you guys? You hear the name out loud and it makes you like it even more? UGH! I just love both so much! [name]Do[/name] you think they are too close to use both as sibling names? nicknames would probably be [name]Emmy[/name] and [name]Eva[/name] or [name]Evie[/name] and [name]Emme[/name].

[name]Emmeline[/name] [name]Florence[/name] and [name]Evangeline[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name]? Too close? If so, which do you prefer?

I don’t think they’re too close, especially with the nicknames.

I [name]LOVE[/name] the name [name]Evangeline[/name]! I do think that they would be too close as a sibling set, though. I prefer [name]Evangeline[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] over [name]Emmeline[/name] [name]Florence[/name], but both are great choices.
