Hubby and I came across the name [name_m]Emrys[/name_m] and really liked it, but its technically a boys name (welsh) and we’re having a girl. I think it’s very feminine and could work, but would love some feedback. NN would be [name_f]Emme[/name_f], which we also like because both our sisters are named [name_f]Emily[/name_f]. We also like [name_f]Iris[/name_f], but lacks the cute nn. Thank you for all your input!
I’ve had [name_m]Emrys[/name_m] in my boys’ top ten for ages, but I have to say, I can see it on a girl. For me the appeal is mostly in the namesake ([name_m]Merlin[/name_m]) but it does have a wispy sound that’s especially feminine to American ears. And it would be an excellent way to honor the two Emilys. Go for it if you think it feels right.
ETA: for the record, normally I’d be with everyone saying “please don’t.” But for some reason I’m not.
No. It’s a boys name. There are plenty of ‘em’ girl names available. Leave [name_m]Emrys[/name_m] where he belongs.
I’d call and [name_f]Iris[/name_f], [name_f]Irie[/name_f] ‘eye-ree’, as a nickname I think
I love [name_m]Emrys[/name_m] for a boy. [name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Emma[/name_f]. [name_f]Emma[/name_f] is beautiful, elegant, and classic. Or [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] “[name_f]Emme[/name_f]”.
Although [name_f]Emily[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f] would be so pretty and flows so well, [name_f]Emily[/name_f] is soooooo popular so [name_m]Emrys[/name_m] is so refreshing even though some think of it as a “boys” name. It certainly sounds soft enough to work for a girl. I think it is one of my new favs as far as “unisex” names go.
[name_m]Emrys[/name_m] is a gorgeous choice, especially among all of the [name_f]Emma[/name_f]'s and [name_f]Emily[/name_f]'s.
[name_m]Emrys[/name_m] [name_f]Ireland[/name_f] would be gorgeous. Also [name_m]Emrys[/name_m] [name_f]Iliana[/name_f] or:
[name_m]Emrys[/name_m] [name_f]ILaria[/name_f] or [name_m]Emrys[/name_m] [name_f]Ivana[/name_f] would be soooo pretty.
[name_m]Emrys[/name_m] is a boys’ name and it’s sad that boys’ names are used on girls and then people get so used to them on girls that they can’t be used for boys without teasing. It doesn’t sound feminine to me anyway but maybe my dislike of boys’ names on girls makes me biased.
[name_f]Iris[/name_f] is a lovely name though and I agree with renrose, [name_f]Irie[/name_f] would make a cute nickname. The only other nn I can think of right now is Rissy but maybe it’s a bit weird
Please don’t. [name_m]Emrys[/name_m] is a male name. Using it on a girl makes you look uninformed.
Honestly, [name_m]Emrys[/name_m] is so unpopular that it could go either way. If you love it, use it. [name_f]Iris[/name_f] is nice, too, but I see what you mean about the lack of a good nickname. (Plus, I can’t help but think of eyes when someone mentions the name [name_f]Iris[/name_f].)
I like [name_m]Emrys[/name_m] on a girl or a boy but if you wanted a more feminine but similar sounding name, you could use [name_f]Carys[/name_f]
