Ending sounds

Hello everyone,

I have two children, [name_m]Donovon[/name_m] & [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]. They both have my maiden name: 1 syllable, similar to “ice”.

[name_f]My[/name_f] df and I plan on having two more children. They will have his last name, sounds like D-foz-ee.

We have agreed upon names for each gender (2 of each), BUT both boy names end in “o”.

Would it bother you to have 3 boys with 2 ending in o and one not? It kinda bothers me… I love one other not -o name, but he isn’t on board at all. This is purely hypothetical because we could have 2 girls, or one of each, but I’m name obsessed so I can’t help but freak out a bit about it.

Our list is:

[name_f]Allegra[/name_f] [name_f]Nicolina[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Valentina[/name_f] [name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_f]Antoinette[/name_f]

Lucello ([name_f]Lu[/name_f]-chell-o) [name_m]Vincent[/name_m] [name_u]Ira[/name_u] - surname as a first name, nn [name_u]Luca[/name_u]/[name_m]Louie[/name_m]/Looch
and tied between [name_m]Ottavio[/name_m] “[name_m]Otto[/name_m]” [name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_m]Jack[/name_m] & [name_m]Valentino[/name_m] [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_u]Mason[/name_u]

and the name I love but he won’t go for at all is [name_m]Alaric[/name_m], nn Alic

all middles are family names, and may be rearranged. nicknames would NOT be used exclusively.

[name_f]TIA[/name_f]!

First of all - I love your children’s names! [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] is one of my absolute favourites
Secondly, I don’t think it really matters very much. I agree it’s not ideal, but plenty of families have names ending in the same sounds. If you love the names (I do!), I think you should go for it  And as you said, you may not even have two boys anyway!

Thanks! [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] is actually what I wanted to name [name_m]Donovon[/name_m] but his father wanted [name_u]Jaden[/name_u]. We compromised and found [name_m]Donovon[/name_m].

I also love [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] and [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f] is on my list but it’s not one the boy likes

Thanks for your reply, we do really love all the name options we have agreed upon. Lucello is especially meaningful because we came across it together (in a movie we watched together when first dating). We looked at each other and were like “that’s an awesome name!” Lol

It wouldn’t bother me. Unless names are the same syllable count with the stress on the same syllables, most people don’t ever notice details like that. I like sib-sets to feel like they’re from the same family, but don’t over-think it. [name_f]Remember[/name_f] for most of their lives their name will just be their own, rather than one in a sib-set. [name_m]Otto[/name_m] isn’t going to always be introduced as [name_m]Otto[/name_m], [name_m]Donovan[/name_m] and Lucello’s brother. He’ll just be [name_m]Otto[/name_m], applying for a job, or [name_m]Otto[/name_m], [name_f]Jane[/name_f]'s father, and so on. Personally, I think all your names go fab together. Good job!

Thanks! They are kind of an eclectic mix, but that’s my style in most things :stuck_out_tongue:

It’s hard to not overthink them when I’m practically done naming now. Kids names agreed upon & no pets in the near future. Poo. Lol

Hah! Yes, I can understand. If I weren’t a writer I’d never stop fiddling with potential baby names. As it is, we’re going to have our top ten figured out before we even conceive.

I love the name [name_m]Donovon[/name_m]- good one!
As for his potential brothers having names that end in “o”, i dont see a problem.

if you do though, maybe keep one of those and toss the other; all 3 boys could have different name-endings.

I don’t think that it would matter that one boy’s name doesn’t match the other two. Honestly, I think as name lovers we take these things seriously when in reality your kids probably won’t notice. And if they do, I don’t think they will be offended or anything. I think all the names you chose were very nice and I don’t think the ending sound of the names should deter you from using them in you and your significant other like them.

I wouldn’t worry about it too much, the chances of you have 2 boys are pretty low, 1 in 4 really, 25%. Also, just want to point out that you have [name_f]Valentina[/name_f] on your list and [name_m]Valentino[/name_m] - you can’t use both haha! (I’m sure you’re aware, just pointing it out).

I love all the names!

lol I know,

[name_f]Valentina[/name_f] and [name_m]Valentino[/name_m] would never happen because we are only going to have 2 more children and those are both option 2 (or in the case of [name_m]Valentino[/name_m], tied for option 2). So if we have 2 boys… we could have him… or if we had 2 girls, we could have her.

It’s unlikely that either would happen if we have one of each. (Though, [name_f]Valentina[/name_f] still could have a chance, I suppose).

 I’m hoping for one of each… but he really wants 2 boys. so I bet we’ll have 2 girls. hahaha

Yea, that’s the problem… I love another not ending -o name ([name_m]Alaric[/name_m]). But [name_m]Matt[/name_m] doesn’t like any names other than those 3 we’ve agreed upon.

I guess it’ll be one of those “we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it” things, if we have a boy first and then i’ll worry until I know the gender of the last baby. :stuck_out_tongue: ha
