Endymion?

I’m kind of copying someone else on a different naming forum by posting this, but I like this name too.

[name]Do[/name] you think [name]Endymion[/name] is useable? Copied from the other naming forum: “Derived from Greek ενδυειν (endyein) meaning “to dive into, to enter”. In Greek mythology he was an Aeolian mortal loved by the moon goddess [name]Selene[/name], who asked [name]Zeus[/name] to grant him eternal life. [name]Zeus[/name] complied by putting him into an eternal sleep in a cave on Mount Latmos.”

I first heard of the name [name]Endymion[/name] from this book.

Combo ideas? I kind of like [name]Endymion[/name] [name]Arthur[/name].

For me, it’s definitely not usable and makes me think of the parade [name]Endymion[/name], because I live in New Orleans! (which by the way is next weekend! Woo hoo!). I think it’s more of a guilty pleasure name, and only as a middle if it were used. I couldn’t imagine it as a first, but maybe that’s my bias.

[name]Endymion[/name] is a really nice name. It’s spunky and strong. You should totally name your child this. With an original name like that, he’ll be very popular in school. And if he ever asks you, “Dad, how did you come up with my name?” You can always tell him the story about how [name]Zeus[/name] put the Aeolian mortal into an eternal sleep in a cave on Mount Latmos. I’m sure he’ll like that, and his name too.

[name]Endymion[/name] is very strong and handsome sounding. I especially like it when you pair it with [name]Arthur[/name].

I’m fairly sure I like it, but it also reminds me so much of [name]Sailor[/name] [name]Moon[/name]. I’m also not sure on pronunciation - I thought it had a long I sound in it, like en-dee-MY-on, but Behind the Name is saying that it’s more like en-DIM-ee-on.

I think it may be a bit much for the first name spot, but I love it as a middle name - [name]Arthur[/name] [name]Endymion[/name] would be absolutely fantastic.

Not that this is a bad association, because I love this show, but all I think of is [name]Sailor[/name] [name]Moon[/name] as well. Which, naming a child that today it would likely be a non-issue as far as recognition, but I literally only clicked on this thread because of the connection. I kinda like it… but maybe more as a middle name.

I have never seen sailor moon so I haven’t any idea what you are talking about haha. I also don’t know what the parade is, I’ve never been to New Orleans.

Hahaha! I’m guilty of clicking this because of my love for the japanese animated tv series too.

I am biased as well! But truly, I think it’s a great name.
And I believe there is a strong emphasis on the “dy” part like “en-DIM-ee-on”.

It sounds like something you’d order at a sushi house. [name]Endymion[/name] with a side of edamame. Endy is a cute nn. It woul make a fantastic mn too.

I never thought of Endy as a nn for it, but that is really cute and makes it a lot more usable as a fn in my eyes.

Nice! I love it when I hear of other people who love [name]Sailor[/name] [name]Moon[/name]. I was obsessed with it when I was younger. I wanted to be a [name]Sailor[/name] [name]Scout[/name] in the worst way.
