Engaged! And finally allowed to talk about names!

My now fiance and I became engaged over the past week. Up until now he has basically barely tolerated me talking about names (which being the language and word nerd that I am, I always do). Now that we are engaged however he has no excuse, and I am allowed to toss ideas back and forth all I like. So I thought I would put my current top 5 for each gender out there and get some opinions

Middle names are all family names and our last name will be 4 letters, one syllable, starting with ‘B’ ending in a ‘K’ sound.

I love all my boy names…but feel blah about my girl names. What do you think?

Boys:
[name]Luca[/name] [name]Adam[/name]
[name]Elijah[/name] [name]Adam[/name]
[name]Sullivan[/name] [name]Webster[/name]
[name]Ian[/name] [name]Ray[/name] (after each of our maternal grandfathers)
[name]Aubrey[/name] [name]Webster[/name] OR [name]Avery[/name] [name]Webster[/name]

Girls:
[name]Beth[/name] [name]Frances[/name] OR [name]Beth[/name] [name]Hilary[/name]
[name]Maeve[/name] [name]Frances[/name] OR [name]Maeve[/name] [name]Hilary[/name]
[name]Liza[/name] [name]Mae[/name]
[name]Hazel[/name] [name]Mae[/name]
[name]Dorothy[/name] [name]Mae[/name] ([name]Dorothy[/name] was the name of my great grandmother, who I am often told I am like)
[name]Audra[/name] [name]Mae[/name]

Give me your thoughts- don’t mind brutal honesty!

For boys, I like [name]Luca[/name] or [name]Elijah[/name] [name]Adam[/name]. [name]One[/name] of my friends actually has an [name]Elijah[/name] [name]Adam[/name] and he’s a sweet little thing. [name]Sullivan[/name] [name]Webster[/name] sounds too surname-y to me, [name]Ian[/name] [name]Ray[/name] too short, and [name]Aubrey[/name] & [name]Avery[/name], while I like them both, I feel they are both going too much to the girls’ side.

[name]Dorothy[/name] [name]Mae[/name] is my favorite of your girls, especially if it was to have the nn [name]Dottie[/name]. I also have [name]Maeve[/name] on my short list and think it goes well with [name]Luca[/name] and [name]Elijah[/name]. I, personally wouldn’t use [name]Audra[/name] as the Au sound is becoming quite common ([name]Audrey[/name], [name]Auden[/name], [name]Aurora[/name] & co) but I don’t think you can go wrong with any of your other picks.

And congratulations on the engagement. So exciting.

I think [name]Luca[/name] B–k, and [name]Ian[/name] B–k is a bit too choppy. [name]Ian[/name] B–k is better in flow than [name]Luca[/name] B–k, though.

I like [name]Audra[/name] [name]Mae[/name], but prefer [name]Audra[/name] [name]May[/name].

Our name styles are radically different so I can’t really suggest anything, or comment too much on them.

Thanks for all the thoughts!

So glad someone agrees with me on [name]Webster[/name] for a fn! Unfortunately, my future hubby will never ever agree, even though it is his middle name!

Keep the suggestions and opinions coming!

I like all your boys names except [name]Ian[/name] [name]Ray[/name] & & [name]Aubrey[/name] for a boy. I’m for [name]Avery[/name] as being unisex but I think ALL girl when I hear [name]Aubrey[/name]…I’m sorry.
My favorite boy’s name for you is definitely [name]Sullivan[/name] [name]Webster[/name], it sounds so cool & [name]Luca[/name] [name]Adam[/name] is a close second since I’m in love with the name [name]Luca[/name].
As for girl names, the only one I like is [name]Hazel[/name]. The other names aren’t really my style.

I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Avery[/name] and [name]Aubrey[/name] for boys (they are boy names, after all)! Also, [name]Beth[/name], [name]Hazel[/name], and [name]Dorothy[/name] are fabulous.

On your list or boys, my favorites are [name]Luca[/name], [name]Sullivan[/name] and [name]Ian[/name].
[name]Elijah[/name] is okay.

[name]Aubrey[/name] [name]Webster[/name] OR [name]Avery[/name] [name]Webster[/name] - of these, I prefer [name]Avery[/name]. I’m sure you know they are both very popular for girls, but that should not stop you. [name]Avery[/name] has also gotten more popular for boys.

Girls:
[name]Beth[/name] [name]Frances[/name] OR [name]Beth[/name] [name]Hilary[/name] - I think I prefer [name]Hilary[/name] [name]Beth[/name].
[name]Maeve[/name] [name]Frances[/name] OR [name]Maeve[/name] [name]Hilary[/name] . or [name]Hilary[/name] [name]Maeve[/name]. [name]Maeve[/name] is nice. I don’t like how it sounds with [name]Frances[/name] - the sounds run together
[name]Liza[/name] [name]Mae[/name] - cute!
[name]Hazel[/name] [name]Mae[/name] - I don’t like [name]Hazel[/name], but this is a nice combination.
[name]Dorothy[/name] [name]Mae[/name] ([name]Dorothy[/name] was the name of my great grandmother, who I am often told I am like) - good name.
[name]Audra[/name] [name]Mae[/name] - I like this one.

My favorites of the girls’ list are [name]Liza[/name] [name]Mae[/name] and [name]Audra[/name] [name]Mae[/name].

Congrats! My Dh was the same way we when we were dating!
I think [name]Luca[/name] and [name]Ian[/name] are too choppy for your last name.
I love [name]Sullivan[/name] [name]Webster[/name] and [name]Hazel[/name] [name]Mae[/name]!

Congratulations!
Really like [name]Luca[/name], [name]Elijah[/name] and [name]Aubrey[/name] from your boys’ list. [name]Beth[/name] is simple and sweet from the girls’, though not sure how it would sound with your surname. You might consider [name]Dorothea[/name] (with nn [name]Thea[/name] which I love)? I also knew siblings [name]Hazel[/name] and [name]Heather[/name], which is kinda cool. Have an irrational hatred of ‘ae’ so that rules out most of the rest. Enjoy playing with names now you have official authority

Congratulations on your engagement!

From you list I like the following names, and I didn’t really take the last name into consideration:
[name]Sullivan[/name] [name]Webster[/name] (I haven’t ever though of [name]Sullivan[/name] as a first name, but I like it! It may get shortened into Sull or [name]Sully[/name])
[name]Luca[/name] [name]Adam[/name] (I quite like the name [name]Luca[/name] and prefer it to [name]Elijah[/name])
[name]Aubrey[/name] AND [name]Avery[/name] [name]Webster[/name] (I like when boys names that have been taken over by girls (e.g. [name]Ashley[/name], [name]Kelly[/name]) are on a young person)

[name]Maeve[/name] [name]Hilary[/name] (It may be hard for her to learn to spell her first name when she’s little, but that’s hardly a deterrent for this beautiful name. And you can derive [name]Mae[/name] as a nickname from [name]Maeve[/name]. Absolutely lovely!)
[name]Hazel[/name] [name]Mae[/name] (I absolutely [name]LOVE[/name] the name [name]Hazel[/name] and am both excited and disappointed that it’s making a comeback. Excited because it’s beautiful, disappointed because I may want to use it and I don’t want my daughter to be [name]Hazel[/name] P. in school! I also love [name]Mae[/name], spelled this way. I’ve considered using it as a middle name as well!)

Finally, a nice set of names!

My favorites are [name]Sullivan[/name] [name]Webster[/name] and [name]Hazel[/name]/[name]Dorothy[/name]/[name]Audra[/name] [name]Mae[/name].

Congrats on your engagement! I remember the days when I had to supress my name-nerdiness. I’m glad that’s over, for both of us, now!

From your boy’s list, I quite like [name]Sullivan[/name] [name]Webster[/name]. [name]Elijah[/name] [name]Adam[/name] is nice, too, though it might be a bit TOO Biblical. [name]Love[/name] seeing [name]Avery[/name] being considered for a boy, too. I doesn’t sit right on a girl, in my opinion.

Mind if I change up your girls a bit? Because I’d love [name]Hazel[/name] [name]Frances[/name] or [name]Dorothy[/name] ([name]Dottie[/name]!) [name]Frances[/name]. Really, I just adore [name]Frances[/name] [name]Mae[/name] is adorable, but I’m hearing it a lot lately and fear it’s going to be the next big “filler” name.
