Entwined names....

I just picked up the novel Entwined by [name]Heather[/name] [name]Dixon[/name], and was flipping through it, it’s a book that’s based off the twelve dancing princesses, but what really caught my eye was the name of the sisters they were… [name]Azalea[/name], Bramble, [name]Clover[/name], Delphinium, [name]Evening[/name] [name]Primrose[/name] ([name]Eve[/name]), [name]Flora[/name], Goldenrod, Hollyhock, [name]Ivy[/name], [name]Jessamine[/name], [name]Kale[/name] & [name]Lily[/name], so what do you berries think?

I love [name]Eve[/name], and [name]Ivy[/name] and [name]Lily[/name] are nice too.

Poor kale…how would it be to be the vegetable?! Lol.

Where are the last 14? A through L but not M though Z?

I haven’t read “Entwined” so I don’t know if there is a reason for the alphabetical plant name list. If there isn’t really one that seems mandated by the story or that drives the story I’d say naming 12 characters after such an obvious theme seems almost a little lazy for an author. Esp since some of the names like [name]Evening[/name] [name]Primrose[/name] seems a little convoluted in comparison to [name]Ivy[/name] or [name]Lily[/name] and [name]Flora[/name] seems a little on the nose.

That said I do like [name]Primrose[/name], [name]Fleur[/name] (french version of [name]Flora[/name]), [name]Ivy[/name], & [name]Lilian[/name] (long form of [name]Lily[/name]). Though I wouldn’t used them in this particular configuration.

The twelve dancing princesses only had names starting from the beginning of the alphabet and I believe that the Grimm brothers wrote the original story. Not entirely sure. Only in their story the girls didn’t have names. In the [name]Barbie[/name] version though, the names were [name]Ashlyn[/name], [name]Blair[/name], [name]Courtney[/name], [name]Delia[/name], [name]Edeline[/name], [name]Fallon[/name], [name]Genevieve[/name], [name]Hadley[/name], [name]Isla[/name], [name]Janessa[/name], [name]Kathleen[/name] and [name]Lacy[/name]. Oldest to youngest and I think that [name]Isla[/name] and [name]Hadley[/name] were the twins with [name]Janessa[/name], [name]Kathleen[/name] and [name]Lacy[/name] being the triplets.

@sweetpea that was my thought exactly! Poor [name]Kale[/name], maybe the author couldn’t find a flower name that started with K? The same thing with Bramble

[name_f]Azalea[/name_f] and [name_f]Jessamine[/name_f] are on my faves list ([name_f]Azalea[/name_f] as the first name for my distant future second daughter)
