Eoin?

Still searching for the perfect boys name. My husband and I both like [name_m]John[/name_m] [name_m]Henry[/name_m] a lot but my fear is that it would get shorted to [name_m]John[/name_m] or [name_m]Johnny[/name_m] and I really dislike that. I only like when whole name [name_m]John[/name_m] [name_m]Henry[/name_m] used. That said, looking into either ideas and came across [name_u]Owen[/name_u]. But then saw how popular it has become?! Particularly in my province I think it was like #16 last year. So what about [name_m]Eoin[/name_m]? Pronounced the same as [name_u]Owen[/name_u] but the Gaelic spelling? Is this too weird?? My two daughters are named Mhairi and [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] so we are def into the gaelic names but their spellings are pretty normal…I’m worried [name_m]Eoin[/name_m] might be too out there. Would you think it was dumb if you saw it spelled this way and wonder why they didn’t just spell it [name_u]Owen[/name_u]? I like that it’s the gaelic version of [name_m]John[/name_m] but just a little more interesting. Anyway, honest feedback appreciated!! [name_u]Haven[/name_u]'t even run it by my husband yet so he may veto it anyway haha I like to start here for feedback!

I find [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] and [name_u]Owen[/name_u]/[name_m]Eoin[/name_m] a bit matchy in sound. Have you considered [name_m]Ewan[/name_m] or [name_u]Evan[/name_u]?

I love it, this spelling is great.

When I saw [name_m]Eoin[/name_m], I thought it was prn [name_m]Ian[/name_m]. I really love [name_m]John[/name_m] [name_m]Henry[/name_m]. You just have to reinforce his name. There is a little boy at church who goes by [name_m]John[/name_m] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] and it isn’t a problem.

I agree that [name_u]Owen[/name_u]/[name_m]Eoin[/name_m] and [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] are super close for siblings.

Here’s some other variations for [name_m]John[/name_m]:
[name_m]Ian[/name_m]
[name_m]Ivan[/name_m]
[name_m]Sean[/name_m]

I like [name_m]Eoin[/name_m]! I don’t see how it’s “too close” to [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] at all, because they share an “o”? Can one only have one child with an “o” in their name? (Seriously, someone explain this!)

I think Mhairi, [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] and [name_m]Eoin[/name_m] sound lovely together, absolutely lovely.

I love the name [name_m]Eoin[/name_m]. I don’t think it’s too far out there. if you’re worried about people mispronouncing his name, all you have to do is tell them it’s pronounced like [name_u]Owen[/name_u] and they won’t say it wrong again.

Hmm, I hadn’t noticed [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] and [name_m]Eoin[/name_m]/[name_u]Owen[/name_u] sounding so similar…something to think about for sure! I can see how they share that long o sound. Not sure what I think now haha

Oh and PS…I do love the name [name_m]Ewan[/name_m] but I have a friend w/ a toddler named [name_m]Ewan[/name_m] so wouldn’t copy. And I loooove [name_u]Evan[/name_u] but my husband says no b/c it’s one of his best friend’s names and he thinks that would be weird! But I love [name_u]Evan[/name_u] and [name_m]Ewan[/name_m] even more than [name_m]Eoin[/name_m]. Not a fan of [name_m]Ian[/name_m]/[name_m]Iain[/name_m] and [name_m]Sean[/name_m] is way too common here though I do think it’s a nice name.
