Ephraim - How to say it and do you like it?

How would you pronounce the name [name_m]Ephraim[/name_m]? I say it with two syllables (E-frum) but I’ve heard other people pronounce it with three syllables (E-free-um). [name_f]My[/name_f] other question is how do you like it? Is it a name you would choose for your baby boy?

I pronounce it ee-frum (I’m American). I personally wouldn’t use it for my son, but if you love it use it!

I would say eh-fray-um, but that’s probably very wrong. :flushed:

I would say eh-frame or ee-frame

I think it’s ok. Definitely unique!

It has a nice, Biblical sound and vibe.

I switch between saying it ee-free-um, eff-ray-um, ee-fray-um, and eff-ree-um, but I have heard eff-rum and ee-frum before. I personally much prefer any of the 3 syllable pronunciation to the 2 syllable pronunciations.

I’ve only ever pronounced it eh-freye-um (like [name_m]Chaim[/name_m] but with an eh) and honestly I’m confused by the eh-frum pronunciation.

In my experience it’s a stuffy grandfather name (think [name_m]Roger[/name_m] or [name_m]Albert[/name_m], very dated/not stylish) so I wouldn’t really consider it for my own son, but it’s a solid name and I do have older Hebrew names on my own list, so I can’t really be the one to argue against it .

I’ve always heard it pronounced Ee-frum. I probably wouldn’t choose it but I see nothing wrong with it as a name. It falls between the popular [name_m]Ethan[/name_m] and the more unusual [name_m]Enoch[/name_m]. And feels like it could be an alternative to [name_m]Graham[/name_m] too.

The correct Hebrew reads “eff-rah-yeem” or “eff-rye-yeem” (when it’s said faster in Hebrew)

I said it like eh-frah-EEM (hope that makes sense)

I say E-frame and I think it’s a rather nice name.

Growing up in church I always heard it said as E-free-um

I’ve only heard this name spoken once and I think it was on an American TV show (I can’t remember exactly). It was pronounced like eff-rum so that’s how I’ve said it since and didn’t even know there were other ways it could be pronounced. But now that I’ve seen other pronunciations, the eff-rye-um pronunciation makes the most sense to me due to the similarity to [name_m]Chaim[/name_m], as previously mentioned.

I would say EFF-rum. I really like it!

If you want E-frum or Eff-rum than I recommend [name_m]Ephram[/name_m]. [name_m]Ephraim[/name_m] is meant to be pronounced as @Babies123456 stated, and I wouldn’t use [name_m]Ephraim[/name_m] unless I intended to pronounce it properly out of respect for the culture the name comes from.

I say “eff-ray-um” (I’m Australian, for context), and yes, I really like it. I think it is strong and handsome, and really should get used more.

I say it ef-rum. It’s not a fave but it’s a nice enough name

I would ask for clarification on this one. I could’t assume Ee-frum or E-free-um because both seem valid and usable. I wanted this name for one of our boys, but DH wouldn’t have it! I would have gone with Ee-frum.

I’ve only heard eff-rye-um or eff-rye-eem. I don’t dislike it but I do find it to be a bit dated and heavy.

I’ve never heard this name aloud, but my instinct upon seeing it is to go with Ee-frum.

It’s definitely old fashioned, and even though not typically my style, I like it.
