I’m a massive [name_u]Les[/name_u] Mis fan and i’ve always loved the name [name_f]Eponine[/name_f]. But do you think its too tied to the character? Would a girl called [name_f]Eponine[/name_f] be able to make it her own? What nicknames would you use for it? What do you think of the combo [name_f]Eponine[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f]?
I think the combination works well. I like [name_f]Nina[/name_f] as a nickname for [name_f]Eponine[/name_f].
I like [name_u]Les[/name_u] Mis a whole lot, and I think the character [name_f]Eponine[/name_f] isn’t a bad connection. [name_m]Young[/name_m] kids wouldn’t know of it and when she’s older and she reads/watches/listens to [name_u]Les[/name_u] Mis she’d probably think it’s a cool thing to be named after!
I love it as a name too, it’s very elegant and sweet. [name_f]Eponine[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f] is beautiful and I really like the cute nickname [name_f]Nina[/name_f]
I do think it’s too tied to the book character, sorry. Personally, I don’t find [name_f]Eponine[/name_f] very attractive, but to each their own, I guess.
Nickname ideas:
[name_f]Nina[/name_f]
Inna
[name_f]Effie[/name_f]
[name_f]Polly[/name_f]
As for the combo [name_f]Eponine[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f], I like it. [name_f]Iris[/name_f] really adds spunk and liveliness to [name_f]Eponine[/name_f].
[name_f]Eponine[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f] is a beautiful combo!
[name_f]Eponine[/name_f] is definitely strongly tied to the character, but since you’re a big fan I don’t really see the issue. The character is tragic, but she’s not a bad person, and if you’re comfortable with the connection then I think that’s totally fine. I’ve seen [name_f]Cosette[/name_f] used/considered on here, so why not [name_f]Eponine[/name_f]?
I love the suggestion of [name_f]Nina[/name_f] for [name_f]Eponine[/name_f]! I also love [name_f]Polly[/name_f], though it feels like a bit more of a stretch.
Maybe [name_f]Eppie[/name_f], Pony or [name_f]Pippa[/name_f]?
I’ve never seen the movie or read the book so I have no idea who she is. I’m not sure how to pronounce the name. Is it ep-on-neen, ep-oh-neen, ee-pon-een, or ee-poh-neen?
[name_f]Eponine[/name_f] is wonderful. I haven’t read Miserables yet, but I definitely plan to. Maybe even this month. I have it on my middle list… I pronounce it Eh-po-[name_m]NIN[/name_m].
I absolutely adore the name [name_f]Eponine[/name_f] and I think it’s arguably one of the best namesakes that could be taken from [name_u]Les[/name_u] Mis.
I think it’s a name that [name_u]Les[/name_u] Mis fans will associate with the character but that other people probably won’t.
I agree on [name_f]Nina[/name_f] but I also think because it’s such a lovely [name_m]French[/name_m] name you could get away with something like [name_f]Cherie[/name_f] (Sweetheart) or another [name_m]French[/name_m] word of affection.
Why not? It’s definitely not my favorite (I prefer [name_f]Apolline[/name_f]) but it’s cute. I’m [name_m]French[/name_m] and I don’t think that the connection is too tight. I love your middle name choice.
Also, [name_f]Cherie[/name_f] is absolutely unwearable in a french speaking country, I would keep [name_f]Iris[/name_f] as a middle name.
I adore [name_f]Eponine[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f]!
I’ve seen the movie once (I haven’t read the book), but I gotta say I wouldn’t know [name_f]Eponine[/name_f] is from [name_u]Les[/name_u] Mis
[name_f]Nina[/name_f] is an adorable nn for [name_f]Eponine[/name_f]
I think it works best in the middle spot. I do like her character in the musical but while I still like her character in the book, I don’t think it makes for a good namesake.
As a middle name it would be gorgeous, though!
And yes, I do think it will forever tie her to [name_u]Les[/name_u] Mis.
Thanks guys for all your input, its so helpful. I reallly like nn [name_f]Effie[/name_f]! and [name_f]Polly[/name_f] is cute too
I love the name [name_f]Eponine[/name_f]. I do think it’s very tied to the character, but most young kids won’t know it and most older people will probably just think it’s interesting. I think it could work, but it’s a brave choice.
