Ok! I’m still on the loose! Husband is liking [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u] now. (big sis to be [name_u]Hadley[/name_u]). I like [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u] too. Problem: our last name is very similar to [name_m]Kiefer[/name_m].
Does [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u] [name_m]Kiefer[/name_m] sound too rhymie with the matching -er endings?? I initially never would choose it for this reason, but we are really loving this name! What should we do? THANK YOU!!!
I input [name_u]Hadley[/name_u] into a search and names that were considered to ‘GO’ with her name are these…
[name_u]Hayden[/name_u] [name_m]Grayson[/name_m] [name_u]Hudson[/name_u] [name_u]Phoenix[/name_u] [name_m]Caden[/name_m] [name_m]Jackson[/name_m] [name_m]Eathan[/name_m] [name_m]Aston[/name_m] [name_m]Dalten[/name_m] [name_m]Kohen[/name_m] [name_m]Axl[/name_m] [name_m]Brodey[/name_m] [name_u]Chase[/name_u] [name_u]Owen[/name_u] [name_u]Evan[/name_u] [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u] <[the 1 u like ] Beckett Harrison Blair Chandler Brennen Isaac Dacoda Jace Zack Haden Braeden Gaige Preston Case Everett Lawson /Dawson< [i like this one… as has ‘W’ in like sawyer] Judson Henley
Ughhh we have the same problem!!! I love so many -er ending names for boys but our last name is two syllables ending in -er so most of the names just sound off to me.
In reality, if I heard someone say a kids name out loud like “sawyer [name_m]Keifer[/name_m]” I wouldn’t think “omg that name sounds so rhymey!” I probably wouldn’t even think twice about it. Either would most people I think because I posed this problem to my family (7 people) and all of them told me I was crazy for being so concerned about it.
It just bothers us because we are the type of people to be on nameberry scrutinizing names!
So if you love [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u] and think you would be able to look past the -er, -er thing, use it! If it is going to cause you to cringe everytime you hear your sons name spoken aloud, keep looking.
We’re in the same boat! Our last name also is two syllables and ends in “er”. We really love the name [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] nn [name_m]Xander[/name_m]. When we recently shared our second choice of [name_m]Elijah[/name_m] nn [name_m]Eli[/name_m] with a family member, we got a negative response. Therefore, we are ready to say the heck with it and go with our first choice of [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] despite it rhyming with our last name a bit.
Since both are two syllables and end in -er, I do think it’s a bit much. Something like [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] [name_m]Kiefer[/name_m] wouldn’t be as bad since one is four syllables and the other is only two.
Thank you everyone for your help. I really appreciate it. I’m so downhearted about this! I have considered all of the above mentioned names and none are sounding good to me. I will keep thinking. And put the question out to friends and family. It is so true though, I know so many people who have made similar naming faux pas, or they’ve ended the first name with the same letter that the last name started with, or they’ve ended all names with an “n” and they didn’t think twice about it. I hate being such an over-analyzer! Not sure what we will do. Still have until the end of [name_f]July[/name_f] to figure it out. I’m sure I’ll be back
