Erasing my name?

xxxxxxxxxxxx

I don’t really know how to help you. Why do you object to people knowing your surname?

I guess within your own posts you can delete the sentence with your name in it. You can ask specific people to delete posts containing your surname.

Thanks [name]Irmgard[/name]. Ha! There it is again. Yes, [name]Garland[/name]. [name]Ah[/name] well. I dunno- should I be worried about identity theft or something? Exposing my future children’s first names? People seem to be cautious about posting last names. [name]Blade[/name] said something in a recent post about how only ignorant teenagers post first and last names. I’ve never used internet forums much before Nameberry, so I don’t really know the drill.

I don’t think you can delete threads, or other people’s posts. You can go back and edit your posts, and started threads though. Other than that, all you can do is ask people to edit their posts, but the people might not edit their post for you. If you know who posted your name in their post. You can message them about it, but I would include which post you’re asking them to delete it from (if you can add a link, that might help too). The less work they have to do to actually delete it, the more likely they will be willing to delete your name.

From here on out, I would just advoid using your last name. You might not be able to delete it from other threads/posts, but you can stop more people from even more people finding out if you don’t post it. Also, I’d delete it from your most recent post on this thread. I’d also message irmgard+theodorian, and ask them to delete your name from their post. Seeing that them mentioning your name, and you agreeing that it’s your name isn’t helping with your situation.

If you’re looking for a name to go with your last name, I’d use a similar sounding name to your last name, or just say what it starts with, or ends with or how many sillables it has. But I would avoid using your actual last name.

Thanks Lilauburn. I should just delete this entire thread, but I don’t think it’s doable. Hm. Well I rarely go by my married name anyway, and [name]Emma[/name] is just a nickname, so it’s not the worst. What a ninny though. Lesson learned.

With 700+ posts, your old ones aren’t searchable any more. (Only the most recent 500 are stored). Of course the threads are archived, so if one were to be re-opened for any reason everyone would see it, but anyone simply clicking on your username and looking at your posting history wouldn’t be able to read those first 250 posts.

I love how another poster kindly mentioned your surname, so we would all have it fresh in our minds.
