DH likes [name_m]Eric[/name_m] and I like [name_m]Arthur[/name_m]…Which do you prefer and why? Our surname starts with W.
Also we’re a bit stuck on middle names, all we can come up with is [name_u]James[/name_u] (it’s a family name but I’d love some other ideas) thank you! ”
I prefer [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] -[name_m]Eric[/name_m] is okay, just a bit harsh for me. I like the familiar but mythical sound of [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] and the nickname [name_m]Artie[/name_m]
I also prefer [name_m]Arthur[/name_m]. [name_m]Eric[/name_m] is nice, but [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] has something solemn but familiar that I really like. Plus, [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] sounds like a perfect brother for [name_m]Louis[/name_m] [name_m]Charles[/name_m]. Both have regal, traditional but not harsh sounds.
I prefer [name_m]Eric[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] to [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u]. I would love to meet a baby [name_m]Eric[/name_m].
I’m team [name_m]Arthur[/name_m], too (although [name_m]Louis[/name_m] [name_m]Charles[/name_m] + [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] reminds me quite a lot of [name_m]Will[/name_m] and [name_f]Kate[/name_f]'s latest little one, [name_m]Louis[/name_m] [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] [name_m]Charles[/name_m]… it’s up to you whether that bothers you or not, but [name_m]Louis[/name_m] + [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] IS a fantastic brother set)–[name_m]Eric[/name_m] is nice, but I like the Finnish [name_m]Eero[/name_m] much more than the classic [name_m]Eric[/name_m]. [name_m]Eric[/name_m] feels a bit middle-aged–not old enough to be old-man chic, but old enough to feel a bit tired. [name_m]Eric[/name_m] is a nice name, just not something I get very excited about personally, unfortunately! I think [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] is super sweet.
I really like the suggestions [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] [name_u]Elias[/name_u] and [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] [name_u]Lawrence[/name_u]! (I like [name_u]Lawrence[/name_u] but not sure I could have [name_m]Louis[/name_m] and [name_u]Lawrence[/name_u] so it makes a good mn)
I’m conscious of the royal association, [name_m]Charles[/name_m] was the family middle for our first and I wanted [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] as the fn but DH won with [name_m]Louis[/name_m]. Three months later the royal baby was here, thankfully were in Aus so it’s not quite as close to home ”
I prefer [name_m]Arthur[/name_m]. I do like [name_m]Eric[/name_m] as well, it’s just not my taste as much. Would two middle names be a possibility? [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] [name_m]Eric[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] W__ sounds nice.
[name_m]Arthur[/name_m] [name_u]Elias[/name_u]
[name_m]Eric[/name_m] [name_m]Joseph[/name_m]
[name_m]Arthur[/name_m] [name_m]Franklin[/name_m]
I notice that [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] is in your signature. [name_m]How[/name_m] do you feel about that? Your husband could nickname him [name_m]Eric[/name_m], and you could call him [name_m]Eric[/name_m], [name_m]Frederick[/name_m], [name_u]Freddy[/name_u] etc. [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] sounds nice
That is such a great idea thank you! I like [name_m]Frederick[/name_m], its my great grandads name but DH doesn’t like [name_u]Freddie[/name_u]… I’ll see what he says. Would you spell it [name_m]Frederic[/name_m] or [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] if using [name_m]Eric[/name_m] for a nn? I guess it wouldn’t matter too much … will see how I go
I vote [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] over [name_m]Eric[/name_m]. While both names are good based on your surname starting with “W” if you look at initials with [name_m]Eric[/name_m] would make it “EW” verses [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] would be “AW” to me that makes a big difference! Plus both [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] and [name_m]Charles[/name_m] are vintage old fashioned male names. [name_m]Louis[/name_m] is a bit vintage too but has modern appeal, I think [name_m]Jacob[/name_m] fits that modern recognizable style as well. As far as for middle name suggestions I really like [name_m]Jacob[/name_m] from your signature. [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] [name_m]Jacob[/name_m] sounds lovely - it could even make the nickname AJ if you’d like.
I prefer [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] mostly because I have a lot of personal negative associations to the name [name_m]Eric[/name_m], and as others have said, because it has a pretty harsh sound, especially next to the soft, gentle sound of [name_m]Louis[/name_m]. I think [name_m]Louis[/name_m] [name_m]Charles[/name_m] & [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] is perfect, personally.
I’m actually an [name_m]Eric[/name_m], and in some parts of the world, it is indeed an old man’s name. Where I am, however; there seems to always be another teenage [name_m]Eric[/name_m] around. In the UK, yeah, very old manish. The good thing about the name is that while most people won’t nickname it, options [name_m]Rick[/name_m] and [name_u]Ricky[/name_u] (which I sometimes use) are available.
That being said, I do prefer [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] simply because it seems to match your other names and middle name choices better. It’s also the more unexpected of the two (at least in the US).
Now just need to decide on the middle, favourites at the moment are [name_m]Edward[/name_m], [name_u]Elias[/name_u], [name_u]Lawrence[/name_u], [name_u]James[/name_u], [name_m]Julian[/name_m], [name_m]Henry[/name_m], [name_m]George[/name_m] and [name_m]Jacob[/name_m]…
