Esme, Esther, or Josephine ?

Starting to brainstorm names for baby #2 due in [name_u]January[/name_u]. My son is [name_m]Merrick[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m]. These at three girls names my husband and I agree on. Would love the Berries’ input!

[name_f]Esme[/name_f]
[name_f]Esther[/name_f]
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f]

Potential middles (all family) are:

[name_f]Joanna[/name_f]
[name_f]Grace[/name_f]
[name_f]Nancy[/name_f]
[name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f]
[name_f]Susannah[/name_f] / [name_f]Susanne[/name_f]

Thanks in advance!

I think [name_f]Esme[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] would be gorgeous!! x

Thank you! That is a beautiful, sophisticated combo!

I really love [name_f]Esme[/name_f] and I think it goes nicely with [name_m]Merrick[/name_m]. [name_f]Esme[/name_f] [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] would be my pick

Congratulations on your Pregnancy!! [name_m]Merrick[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] is an AWESOME Name!! [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] is one of my most [name_f]Beloved[/name_f] Girls Names, and I know/knew 2 gorgeous Esthers and very precious Aunty [name_f]Esme[/name_f], so I love them all, but feel that [name_f]Esme[/name_f] has the same quirky elegance as [name_m]Merrick[/name_m]!

Back soon to do Middle Names!

I really like [name_f]Esme[/name_f] [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] and [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]!

My three Favourite Combinations with [name_m]Merrick[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m], in order, are:

[name_f]Esme[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]
[name_f]Esme[/name_f] [name_f]Susannah[/name_f]
[name_f]Esme[/name_f] [name_f]Joanna[/name_f]

All SO elegant and graceful!

[name_f]Esme[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]! Closely followed by [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]. I like that [name_f]Esme[/name_f] is more unique like [name_m]Merrick[/name_m], but both are gorgeous!

I love [name_f]Esme[/name_f]!!! [name_m]Merrick[/name_m] and [name_f]Esme[/name_f] sound great together. [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] is nice, I don’t care for [name_f]Esther[/name_f].

I love all of these, but [name_f]Esme[/name_f] and [name_f]Esther[/name_f] have the same unusual quality as [name_m]Merrick[/name_m], something [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] falls a little short of.
My favourite combos for these two are [name_f]Esme[/name_f] [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] and [name_f]Esther[/name_f] [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f]. (I also love [name_f]Esther[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f])
Personally, I think [name_f]Esther[/name_f] [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] is the best choice, she has some of the same clunkyness as [name_m]Merrick[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m]. [name_f]Esme[/name_f] [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] is a tad too sleek to be the best match. [name_f]Esme[/name_f] [name_f]Joanna[/name_f] might fit a little better, but I really don’t like [name_f]Joanna[/name_f].

I think [name_f]Esme[/name_f] [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] is beautiful and it goes wonderfully with [name_m]Merrick[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m].

Thanks for all your input!
[name_f]Esme[/name_f] seems to be the top contender, especially with [name_m]Merrick[/name_m] as sibling.

I love [name_f]Esme[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] but agree that [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] is a nice counterpart to [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] as the middle.

My hubby wants to spell [name_f]Esme[/name_f] “esmae” or “esmay” for phonetics. Thoughts on this? My initial reaction was “no!” But I don’t want her to have to heal with always pronouncing the name…

I love [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], but I think [name_f]Esme[/name_f] is the best sister for [name_m]Merrick[/name_m]. I think [name_f]Esme[/name_f] is a classic name and people will know its pronunciation, I think [name_f]Esmae[/name_f] or [name_f]Esmay[/name_f] just doesn’t give the name as much of a pretty look as [name_f]Esme[/name_f] and slightly takes away how lovely it is. With [name_m]Merrick[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m], I think [name_f]Esme[/name_f] [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] is a very pretty combo:)

I’d definitely stick with the [name_f]Esme[/name_f] spelling. It’s such a beautiful name and changing the spelling would detract from that I think. I also don’t think you’d have much trouble with pronunciation, at least not any more than any other name!

I think [name_f]Esme[/name_f] is well known enough to not be mispronounced too often. Aunty [name_f]Esme[/name_f] did occasionally get called Es-mee, rather than Es-may, but she actually just let it go and didn’t correct people and they usually caught on eventually. That was just her way, but gently correcting people would be fine too. As a little Child I DID struggle with trying to spell her Name correctly, so some of your Daughter’s Friends might struggle initially too, but Parents and/or Teachers will soon sort that out!
