Esme - I have problems with pronunciation

When I see [name]Esme[/name] first time, I didn’t know how to pn it. I say it ehs-meh because that’s was most easiest (and laziest) solution.

Then I find out that [name]Esme[/name] is pn ezmay. While z in esme may not be a problem, I find Y part at end very ugly. Could [name]Esme[/name] be pn without y at the end?

[name]Esme[/name] with a “z” sound is news to me. I always thought it was prn ES-may. Now I’m confused haha

Could be both.

Ez-may (which is my favourite, sorry) and in the UK/Au/NZ, Ez-mee are the two most popular.

Ez-meh sounds very odd to me.

[name]Esme[/name] = ‘ez-mee’
[name]Esme[/name](accented final e) = ‘ez-may’

A gorgeous name! Though if I were reading her name off a class roster, I would pronounce it ‘ez-may’. If you were to pronounce it ‘ez-meh’ or even ‘ez-ma’, perhaps an alternate spelling could clarify your little one’s preferred pronunciation.

My daughter’s name is [name]Esmae[/name]. We spelled it that way because we wanted it pronounced EZMAY. Nobody has trouble saying her name when they see it. Plus [name]Mae[/name] is a family name so it works perfectly.

I say ez-may

I say Ez-may, but I know a few people who say it as ez-mee.

I’d say it Ez-may but ees-mae seems equally likely.

I have a cousin named [name]Esme[/name] who pronounces it Ez-mee. I like the Ez-may pronounciation myself.

After couple of hours and one listening of an inogolo’s pn of esme, I decided Ezmay is equally beautiful and I was probably started this thread out of pms problems.
