If we used the name, it would be as a mn for [name_f]Cosima[/name_f], most probably [name_f]Cosima[/name_f] [name_f]Esme[/name_f]/Esmée [name_f]Marielle[/name_f] or [name_f]Cosima[/name_f] [name_f]Esme[/name_f]/Esmée [name_f]Maris[/name_f].
I always liked the simplicity of just [name_f]Esme[/name_f], but at the same time it’d feel more correct and right to use the original female spelling of Esmée.

I prefer [name_f]Esme[/name_f] or Esmé only because my brain tends to read Esmée as ez-mee.
[name_f]Esme[/name_f] looks neater and accents on names can cause problems when they are printed. I’ve seen names with accents printed with a whole load of random punctuation in the middle on some websites. I think [name_f]Esme[/name_f] is the prettier and simpler option!
[name_f]Esme[/name_f] looks the most familiar to me, although it does irk me slightly it’s traditionally masculine. I think it’s female usage is strong enough in the English speaking world for it not to bother me a lot though. I think [name_f]Cosima[/name_f] [name_f]Esme[/name_f] [name_f]Maris[/name_f] is gorgeous; so is [name_f]Cosima[/name_f] [name_f]Esme[/name_f] [name_f]Marielle[/name_f] for that matter.
If you’re allowed to use accents on the BC in your country and you like it, then Esmée would be great (however if you’re not, then it becomes quite pointless and somewhat of an affectation to use it if you’re not [name_m]French[/name_m]).
Aesthetically I actually really like [name_f]Esmee[/name_f], but I wouldn’t want to encourage the ‘ez-mee’ pronunciation; it’s a popular name in my area but for some reason both seem to be accepted pns; I know a girl with this spelling and she’s got used to accepting it either).
[name_f]Esme[/name_f] as accents aren’t recognised everywhere so it would be [name_f]Esmee[/name_f] which mant people would say ez-mee
I prefer [name_f]Esme[/name_f], because, as everyone else has mentioned, [name_f]Esmee[/name_f] becomes ez-mee. Although, it seems that in some regions of the UK, Ez-mee is how they say [name_f]Esme[/name_f] too.
Esmée. Esmé is a masculine name. It’s like naming your daughter [name_u]Francis[/name_u] instead of [name_f]Frances[/name_f].
I think it depends on where you live. In the US, accents can be problematic and won’t be used most of the time anyway. Here, [name_f]Esme[/name_f] is the most familiar spelling and it is considered totally feminine, so personally I would go with that. If you live in a country where accents are used, then by all means go with the traditional spelling.

We are currently stationed in Europe (but will be returning to our native [name_f]Canada[/name_f] in the next couple of years) and as far as I’m aware putting an accent on the birth certificate shouldn’t be a problem here.
In [name_f]Canada[/name_f] we don’t quite live in the [name_m]French[/name_m] province, but there is a considerable [name_m]French[/name_m] speaking population in our area. And I’m part [name_m]French[/name_m] Canadian, so that must be why the spelling is bothering me so much, even though I prefer just [name_f]Esme[/name_f]…
[name_f]Esme[/name_f] is my favorite, and I think it would be best to skip the accent for practical reasons.
I prefer [name_f]Esmee[/name_f] over [name_f]Esme[/name_f]. With or without the accent. It would be like spelling my middle name [name_u]Rene[/name_u] instead of [name_f]Renee[/name_f]. It would bother me so much if I had the masculine spelling of my middle name!
Since you’re Canadian and will be returning to [name_f]Canada[/name_f], I would use Esmée. I am Canadian and I have an “é” in my middle name, and it’s never been an issue. It’s printed with the accent on my passport and birth certificate.

I think they’ve just tipped the scales towards using the Esmée spelling if the name ends up on our baby’s birthcertificate.

Here in the Netherlands, where I come from, There are 3 or 4 different spelling options.
1: [name_f]Esmee[/name_f] (this is the most common one, it is pronounced with a long ee)
2: Esmé (this is mine, not as commen, it is also pronounced with a long ee, becouse of the é, with makes the short e to a long ee)
3: Esmée (it is used, but personally, I find it double, like it becomes a eeeeeeee… so long)
4: [name_f]Esme[/name_f] (I never saw this spelling here, but i can imagine that it is till pronounce it with a long ee, but officially here, it would be with a shot e (or è)

I like [name_f]Esme[/name_f] much more, but also, just wanted to say I love [name_f]Cosima[/name_f], [name_f]Esme[/name_f] and especially together. Great choice.
[name_f]Esmee[/name_f] w/accents is better, but the name still puts me in mind of the Disney crone from the Kuzco series.
