[name_f]My[/name_f] husband and I feel torn about two names for our little girl. We originally planned to name her [name_f]Solange[/name_f] Sylie (our last name is [name_m]French[/name_m]), which are her grandmothers’ names on each side of the family. We also liked the nickname “[name_m]Sol[/name_m].” However, recently we have been second guessing the choice. [name_f]Esme[/name_f] was our runner up, and has the same meaning as my father’s name. Which do you think is better and why? Would [name_f]Esme[/name_f] [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] work too?
I vote for [name_f]Solange[/name_f] Sylie ([name_f]Sylvie[/name_f]?) — direct family names are always a plus, and [name_m]Sol[/name_m] is an adorable nickname. The meaning connection is nice but subtle (how many people will know Esmée means “esteemed” or “beloved”, and that it shares that meaning with her great-grandfather’s name?). I prefer the original [name_m]French[/name_m] form Esmée (especially if you have [name_m]French[/name_m] heritage) rather than nicknamey [name_f]Esme[/name_f] or the masculine Esmé, but I don’t think Esmée [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] has a great flow.
[name_f]Solange[/name_f] [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] is breathtaking. I love [name_f]Esme[/name_f], too, but it hasn’t got the best flow with [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f].
I like them both. I slightly prefer [name_f]Esme[/name_f] [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f].
[name_f]Esme[/name_f] is a beautiful name and more my style than [name_f]Solange[/name_f]. However, [name_f]Solange[/name_f] has a pretty sound as well and I prefer it due to your family connections.
[name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_f]Solange[/name_f] for me because I think that [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] is absolutely delightful, and oh so [name_m]French[/name_m], and [name_f]Solange[/name_f] is intriguing yet I have trouble with the pronunciation so I am putting it in the middle name spot.
[name_f]Solange[/name_f] is beautiful. I know the sun-angel meaning is folklore etymology and not really where it comes form, but it’s pretty as a mental image.
I’d be really tempted to go with [name_f]Solange[/name_f] Esmé or Esmé [name_f]Solange[/name_f]. [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] just isn’t my cup of tea compared to the other two, though.
I think [name_f]Solange[/name_f] [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] is beautiful! Es me is nice too, but [name_f]Solange[/name_f] gets my vote.
