Esther?

What are peoples general impressions of the name [name]Esther[/name]?

I have never given much thought to this name before, probably because visually it doesn’t look that appealing. But I asked my husband randomly about the Jewish holiday Purim and he was telling me about it and mentioned [name]Esther[/name] and just hearing it vs reading it, it struck me as really pretty.

I love it, one of my top 10. I would like [name]Hester[/name] too…but it reminds me too strongly of ‘The [name]Scarlet[/name] Letter’.

I really like [name]Esther[/name]. I think it’s ready for a comeback.

I love [name]Esther[/name]! I could definitely see her coming back.

I love [name]Esther[/name]…great name, and definitely underused at the moment.

I agree. I like it; it has a vintage-with-attitude feel; plenty of nn potential; and I think it’s gradually becoming more popular (but not so much you need worry yet!). I always like to link it to the meaning ‘star’ and variant [name]Hester[/name], but if it has other significance for you too then all the better. Enjoy!

[name]Esther[/name] is a great name. So vintage, yet fresh.

I really like [name]Esther[/name], especially with the nickname [name]Tess[/name]. I think it fits right in with [name]Harper[/name] and [name]Piper[/name].

I can’t see the appeal. Maybe it’s because I know one, about 60, and she is ridiculously annoying, although she’s a good person.

As a teenager I read a novel about an Amish girl named [name]Esther[/name], called [name]Essie[/name]. It grew on me as I read the book. It’s not on my list simply because I have tooooo many other names that I like much more, but I would love to meet a little [name]Esther[/name]. Or a girl named just [name]Essie[/name].

I love the name [name]Esther[/name]. It’s my sister’s name (spelled [name]Ester[/name] which is the Slavic version). It’s very special and actually beautiful.

[name]Love[/name] [name]Esther[/name]! Unfortunately DH does not…emphatically.

I really like [name]Esther[/name]!

[name]Esther[/name] is a family name of mine. I love it! Nooooo to [name]Hester[/name]! I think [name]Madonna[/name] legally changed her name to [name]Esther[/name] for a while a few years back

I think it’s beautiful. A little more traditional than I usually like, but the meaning and the sound are both beautiful and I agree with pp that [name]Tessa[/name] is a great nn for it.
