I found this name in Ironside by [name]Holly[/name] [name]Black[/name], but could not find it on Nameberry. Other sites say it means “little fire”, but I am not sure if this is correct. Does anyone have any ideas? It’s not [name]Eithne[/name], I checked.

I do not. I pronounce it ETH-een, with the “een” pronounced as in Halloween.
I’m not sure if I like that pronunciation… it makes me think of ethylene, ether, methane… something from a chemistry lab! It looks lovely though. Could it be closer to [name]Athena[/name]?

I think I’d naturally pronounce it EH-THEEN. It reminds me of [name]Etienne[/name], which is a guilty pleasure boy’s name!
That makes more sense. I haven’t been able to find much in regards to its meaning and origin. Are there any sites beside Behind the Name that might help in my quest?
