Euphemia

Hello, I am new to nameberry

I love the name [name]Euphemia[/name] and have loved it for a long time. But everytime I suggest it to a family member or friend they think it’s weird or made up. I [name]LOVE[/name] this name. [name]LOVE[/name] [name]LOVE[/name] [name]LOVE[/name] it. I cannot see myself naming my first daughter anything but [name]Euphemia[/name].

I was wondering if anybody else out there had any thoughts. I know most people will think a [name]Euphemia[/name] would get made fun of, but my best friend’s name is Heonia (pronounced H - you-nee-a) and she has always been well liked.

It’s OK. I can see why you like the sound of it. I think Fi would make a cute nickname. Either way, if you really love a name, you should use it. [name]One[/name] name I used to really love was [name]Rowena[/name] but everyone in my family shot it down and now I can’t imagine using it.

But [name]Euphemia[/name] is cute. I don’t think it will get made fun of…at least not terribly, anyway.

[name]Euphemia[/name] is starting to grow on me, the more I say it out loud…[name]Euphemia[/name], [name]Euphemia[/name], [name]Euphemia[/name]. Not something I’d use but I’d love to see a little [name]Euphemia[/name] running around. I think there is another berry on here with [name]Euphemia[/name] in her sig but I can’t remember who it is at this moment…

I don’t like it at all. I find it very unattractive in look and sound, it’s so awkward to say. If I was named [name]Euphemia[/name], I’d shorten it to [name]Mia[/name] and most definitely change my name at 18.

Heonia is very different than [name]Euphemia[/name] on the acceptance scale imo.

[name]Euphemia[/name] is sweet, it has this cute soft sound. I don’t think it has huge teasing potential.

I love [name]Euphemia[/name] too! I love all the potential NNs, [name]Phemie[/name], [name]Effie[/name] and [name]Mia[/name] are my favorites. I cannot convince my DH of any Eu- names or else I would probably use it too. I think there are plenty of NNs for her to go by if in the future she does not like it. With all the yooneek names out there now I don’t see many children getting made fun of for their names anymore.

Yay! Another [name]Euphemia[/name] lover!!! I absolutely love the name but my husband does not. He says only as a middle, however I think if we have twin girls, I might get brave and use it since he might give in, in that case. To him it sounds like a disease and he worries the child would be picked on for having a strange name. He had a really good friend who was made fun of because his name was unique at the time, so he’s sensitive to any name that may be “out there.” In the end we both love [name]Luna[/name], so that’s our top girl’s name and I’ll prob end up using [name]Euphemia[/name] on a future cat.

I would say go for it if you’re significant other is on board. I really adore the nickname [name]Euphie[/name].

My first thought was “disease”

It conjures the image of Emphysema for me. It has nice sounds, and wonderful nicknames, but I can’t say I’m surprised by the negative feedback.

I don’t think the name has teasing potential, and you clearly love it. That’s all that matters.

It’s on my very long list! I like it! I also like [name]Eugenie[/name].
