Part one: European Royal Generations Games - Part 1 (right click to open, I think, I’m not good with computers)
Due to my attempt at realism in this game, some of the topics included might be interpreted as mature/upsetting, though they are only mentioned briefly. Don’t feel like you have to participate in that if you don’t want to
It was more difficult than I anticipated to make a story that makes sense, so if you notice any errors, you are welcome to work around them to make it make sense! This is my first attempt at a game like this, so apologies in advance!
This part concerns your betrothal, wedding, and first five years of your marriage.
Your parents have agreed you are old enough to marry and have betrothed you to a foreign Prince – the heir to his throne (unless you are the heir yourself, in that case you’re betrothed to a younger son)!
Roll a 10-sided die to see how old you are and make a note of what year it now is if you were born in 1722.
1: 16, 2: 17, 3: 17, 4: 18, 5: 18, 6: 18, 7: 19, 8: 19, 9: 20, 10: 21
Roll again to see how old your betrothed is:
1: 16, 2: 17, 3: 18, 4: 19, 5: 20, 6: 21, 7: 21, 8: 22, 9: 23, 10: 24
Use the Part 1 title randomiser to see what country your betrothed comes from – obviously masculinise the title (I’d recommend keeping a tab for Part 1 open). Roll again if you get the same country as you. Then, use the name banks in part two to get his name. You may also roll for his siblings the same way your rolled for your own, though you don’t have to (roll again if he gets an older brother).
You receive a portrait of your soon-to-be husband in preparation for your wedding, roll a 6-sided die to see what the portrait is:
1:
2:
3:
4:
5:
6:
Don’t like how he looks? You’re an eighteenth-century princess, you have no say in the matter!
You spend hours looking at the portrait, scared yet fascinated that he is the man you are to marry. Your parents commission a portrait of you to send to your betrothed. Let’s hope it’s flattering! Roll a 6-sided die again:
1:
2:
3:
4:
5:
6:
Don’t like how you look? Take it up with the painter.
It’s finally your wedding day! The celebrations are extravagant, and you are overwhelmed at how all the attention is on you. You cry in your mother’s arms and wish your siblings goodbye as you step into the new world of married life.
First year:
The public perception of rulers can make or break them. Your popularity rating (pr) can go up and down based on certain events. You begin with 7pr. If you go below 0 you get deposed, so good luck! If you go above 14 all the problems that might occur are quickly resolved (this will matter more in further Parts)
Roll a 6-sided die to see your opinions on your new husband. This roll is very important so make note of your result. The number next to your roll’s result determines your husband’s relationship (hr). A number of 5 and above means you can have children this year.
1: He’s perfectly fine, if a bit boring. He seems more concerned with his extensive library than with you, but that’s alright. You are fine with being alone… for now (3hr).
2: He’s vivacious and extraverted, and even better, seems taken with you! You’ve heard rumours about his womanising, though… (5hr)
3: He’s very handsome, and very tall, and very… stoic. He spends half his time out hunting and the other half being unusually distant with you. You desperately want him to open up. (3hr)
4: He’s rude, selfish, and unhealthily obsessed with his mother. Even better, his mother hates you. Lucky his brother (if he doesn’t already, make him an eighteen-year-old brother, unless he’s under 18, then make him a twin) is so nice (and beautiful) though… (0hr)
5: He’s genuinely lovely (if a bit bashful), and in love. You can just feel your bond with him getting stronger. You have no complaints! You lucked out in the game of arranged marriages. (10hr)
6: You argue with him. A lot. You both are so opinionated it can seem impossible to resolve issues, but you are beginning to see his point of view… a bit. (3hr)
If you rolled a 2 or a 5, roll a 6-sided die to see if you have a child in the first year of marriage.
1: You give birth to a baby boy – a son and heir! Use the name banks in the next post to decide on his name. (+3pr)
2: You don’t have a baby this year.
3: You give birth to a baby girl! Although not an heir, everyone is thrilled! Use the name banks in the next post to decide on her name. (+1pr)
4: You give birth to twins!! Roll to see their genders (odd = boy, even = girl) and use the name banks in the next post to decide on their names. (+3pr if a boy is born, +2pr if not)
5: You don’t have a baby this year.
6: You give birth to a baby girl! Although not an heir, everyone is thrilled! Use the name banks in the next post to decide on her name. (+1pr)
If you rolled to have a child, start using the children’s rolls at the bottom of the post. Roll once for each child each year.
If you didn’t roll a 2 or a 5, you weren’t close enough with your husband to have a child yet.
Second year:
If you rolled a 1 in your opinions roll, roll a 3-sided die:
1: Your husband finally starts paying attention to you, and you both fall deeply in love! Congrats! You may roll for children this year. (+7hr)
2: After talking with him, he agrees to not neglect you so much. Although you spend a lot of time together now, you can’t bring yourself to love him yet. You may roll for children this year. (+2hr)
3: He continues to neglect you. Luckily, your hobbies occupy you enough to not mind so much. Maybe next year you’ll make up with him. You aren’t close enough with him to roll for children this year. (no change in hr)(-1pr)
If you rolled a 2 in your opinions roll, roll a 3-sided die:
1: After falling more and more deeply in love with you, he abandons his mistresses and you forgive him. You fall in love! You may roll for children this year. (+4hr)
2: After confronting him about his womanising, he gaslights you into thinking it’s okay due to his status. Although you continue to spend time with him, you can’t convince yourself to be truly in love with a man you betrays you like that. You may roll for children this year, however. (no change in hr)
3: So upset by his keeping of mistresses, you leave the palace until he agrees to reform. You don’t roll for children this year. (-3hr)(-1pr)
If you rolled a 3 in your opinions roll, roll a 3-sided die:
1: He finally opens up and reveals he had a very tough childhood, leading to his reservedness. You comfort him and end up falling in love. You may roll for children this year. (+6hr)
2: Although he refuses to tell you what’s wrong with him, you do get close this year and you can picture him opening up soon. You may roll for children this year. (+3hr)
3: He continues to act distant, which breaks your heart. Maybe next year? You don’t roll for children this year. (no change in hr)(-1pr)
If you rolled a 4 in your opinions roll, roll a 3-sided die:
1: Ding-dong the witch is dead! Your mother-in-law dies, which leads you husband to reform. Although snarky and annoying, he isn’t so bad after all and you begin to fall for him despite his flaws. You may roll for children this year. (+6hr)
2: With your husband and mother-in-law as rude as ever, you fall in love with his brother. You may roll for children this year, as you manage to cover up the true paternity of your children through a network of allies and a bit of a stupid husband. (no change in hr, though you can roll for children)
3: Your husband’s brother is married and you feel more alone than ever. However, your husband is being less mean to you recently, I wonder why that is? You still aren’t close enough to roll for children this year. (+3hr)(-1pr)
If you rolled a 5, you are living a fairytale romance. You can roll for children this year, of course.
If you rolled a 6 in your opinions roll, roll a 3-sided die:
1: You manage to turn your heated arguments into intellectual debate and your animosity into passion. You are known for your public displays of affection (controversial). You may roll for children this year. (+7hr)
2: The arguments dry up but you are still such different people. I suppose this is what marriage is supposed to be like - you luckily find many hobbies to preoccupy yourself with. You, still, however, may roll for children this year. (+2hr)
3: The arguments only get more intense and now they can be heard throughout the palace. You don’t know how you will ever resolve this. You don’t roll for children this year. (-1hr)(-1pr)
Children roll (roll a 6-sided die):
1: You give birth to a girl. Everyone is very happy! Use the name banks in the post below to decide on her name. (+1pr)
2: You give birth to a boy! Heir or spare, everyone is ecstatic and your position as the heir’s wife is strengthened. Use the name banks below to decide on his name. (+3pr)
3: You don’t have a baby this year. (if no children yet, -1pr)
4: You give birth to a boy! Heir or spare, everyone is ecstatic and your position as the heir’s wife is strengthened. Use the name banks below to decide on his name. (+3pr)
5: You don’t have a baby this year. (if no children yet, -1pr)
6: You give birth to a girl. Everyone is very happy! Use the name banks in the post below to decide on her name. (+1pr)
Third year:
If you rolled a 5 in the original opinions roll, or a 1 last year, all your issues with you partner are resolved as of this year and you may roll a 6-sided die here:
1: You and your husband pose for a portrait painting to show the international community your prestige. (+1pr)
2: You convince your husband to visit the country of your birth. You are thrilled to reunite with your family (if you are in the country of your birth say you are visiting the country of your husband’s birth).
3: You adopt a lap dog. You become inseparable with them. You may name them what you like.
4: A thief steals your wedding ring! You manage to get a new one, but it isn’t quite the same.
5: You take up painting and end up becoming one of the most successful female painters of the century! Congrats! (+1pr)
6: You and your husband get overwhelmed with court life and retreat to the country for a year. Neglecting your responsibilities don’t go over well with the public, though (-1pr)
If you didn’t roll a 4 or a 5 originally and rolled a 2 last year, roll a 2-sided die:
1: Your issues finally get resolved and you end up falling in love with your husband! (+3hr)
2: Although you didn’t get the perfect marriage, you come to except your situation and are at least happy. (no change in hr).
If you didn’t roll a 5 originally and rolled a 3 last year, roll a 3-sided die:
1 or 2: Although you don’t think you’ll ever forgive your husband for how he treated you completely, you grow to deal with his flaws. Unfortunately, it’s your ‘duty’ as the future Queen/Empress/Duchess to produce an heir. (hr increases to 5)
3: Your husband files for annulment and you happily oblige. You move back to the country of your birth, though are married off again the next year. Next year, roll your husband again from the top! Count the first year options as your fourth year and so on and so forth. Continue through into the normal fifth year in preparation for part 3.
If you rolled a 4 originally and a 2 last year, count yourself as ‘happily married’, for, although your children aren’t biologically your husband’s, you manage to live contentedly beside him – he isn’t so mean to you anymore.
Children – roll a 6-sided die:
1: You don’t have a child this year.
2: You give birth to a girl! If you have a son already, people are very happy, if you don’t, you can see people trying to mask their disappointment. Use the name banks in the post below to decide on her name. (+1pr ONLY if you have a son already)
3: You give birth to a boy! Again, the Kingdom celebrates! Use the name banks in the post below to decide on his name (+3pr if this if your first or second son, +2pr if it’s your third or beyond)
4: You give birth to a boy! Again, the Kingdom celebrates! Use the name banks in the post below to decide on his name (+3pr if this if your first or second son, +2pr if it’s your third or beyond)
5: You give birth to a girl! If you have a son already, people are very happy, if you don’t, you can see people trying to mask their disappointment. Use the name banks in the post below to decide on her name. (+1pr ONLY if you have a son already)
6: You don’t have a child this year.
Fourth year:
Roll a 3-sided die for events this year:
1: You receive news that your mother has died. You become depressed. Don’t roll for children this year. (If you don’t have children already, -1pr)
2: You deliver a very convincing speech to a crowd of people in the capital (+1pr)
3: Your husband gifts you a diamond necklace, you love it, but the public thinks it’s flashy and vulgar. (+1hr, -1pr)
Children – roll a 6-sided die:
1: You give birth to twins! Roll a die to determine the gender (odd = boy, even = girl). Everyone is ecstatic at this miracle! (if they are both girls but you have a son already, +1pr, if they are both girls and you don’t have a son already, no change in pr, if one or more boy is included in the twins, +3pr)
2: You give birth to a boy! Everyone is, of course, very happy! (+3pr if this is your first or second son, +2pr if it’s your third, +1pr if it’s your fourth or more)
3: You give birth to a boy! Everyone is, of course, very happy! (+3pr if this is your first or second son, +2pr if it’s your third, +1pr if it’s your fourth or more)
4: You don’t have a child this year. (If no children at all yet, -1pr)
5: You don’t have a child this year. (If no children at all yet, -1pr)
6: You give birth to a girl. If you don’t have a son yet, people are somewhat upset. If you do, people are still pretty happy. (+1pr if you have a son already).
Fifth year:
Roll a 3-sided die for events this year:
1: The harvest wasn’t so great this year and small-scale rioting happens in the capital (-1pr)
2: You decide to start playing the piano and become really good at it!
3: You donate a large sum of your own royal salary to charity and your generosity becomes well-known (+2pr)
Children – Roll a 6-sided die:
1: You give birth to a girl. If you don’t have a son yet, people make no efforts to hide their disappointment and criticise you at court. (if you don’t have a son yet -1pr, if you have a son and if this is your first, second or third daughter +1pr, if this is your fourth daughter or beyond – no change in pr).
2: You don’t have a child this year.
3: You don’t have a child this year.
4: You don’t have a child this year.
5: You give birth to a girl. If you don’t have a son yet, people make no efforts to hide their disappointment and criticise you at court. (if you don’t have a son yet -1pr, if you have a son and if this is your first, second or third daughter +1pr, if this is your fourth daughter or beyond – no change in pr).
6: You give birth to a boy! Everyone is, of course, very happy! (+3pr if this is your first or second son, +2pr if it’s your third, +1pr if it’s your fourth or more)
Children’s Rolls:
At any age, boys and girls, roll a 10-sided die each year. If they roll a 5, they unfortunately pass away – such is the risk of living as a child in the eighteenth century.
For children aged 4 and above, roll a 6-sided die:
1: They show a talent in piano.
2: They develop an attachment to a family member, you choose who.
3: They throw a tantrum in public.
4: You worry they are intellectually behind – roll the die again: 1-5: they eventually catch up. 6: they get excluded from the line of succession due to their ‘disorder’.
5: You get them a new pet. You decide the type of animal and their name.
6: They are taught a new language. You choose which one (maybe your native language?)
Thanks for playing! See you in part 3!
P.S. There are really no rules with this. Please don’t feel bound by the die and make your own story!
