Evangeline Belynne?

So we are having a girl and her first name is [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f], with the nickname [name_f]Eve[/name_f].

For her middle name we are hoping to honor a close family member whose name is [name_f]Becky[/name_f] [name_f]Lynne[/name_f]. Its pretty important to my husband especially as she is like a second mom to him and has no granddaughters of her own. I am not a fan of either of those names with [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f], so I’ve been looking for variants such as the various spellings of [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f] (even though her name isn’t actually [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f]), and all the [name_f]Lynnette[/name_f]/Lynnae etc names but not loving any of them with the first name. I’m also a huge name meaning freak… and none of the names seem to fit well with [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] meaning-wise either… with the exception of maybe [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f] but our last name is a 2 syllable name (Goettl, pronounced like [name_m]Gable[/name_m] except with a T sound instead of a B) and I just don’t know if it’s “it”. All the [name_u]Lynn[/name_u] variants aren’t working well for me next to the “leen” ending on [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] either. … too awkward. SO… I did actually finally come across an obscure variation of the name [name_f]Belen[/name_f], spelled Belynne
[name_f]Belen[/name_f] is the Spanish name for Bethlehem, which could be a cool tie-in to the name [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] since [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] means " bringer of the gospel " and the gospel story began in Bethlehem. Beyond that, Belynne would be an obvious mix between the names [name_f]Becky[/name_f] and [name_f]Lynne[/name_f]. It would be pronounced like Ba-LYNN/buh-LYNN as in [name_f]Anne[/name_f] Boleyn.

After weeks of pulling my hair out looking for a name that could possibly work and still sound unique and elegant with [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] I was super excited to find this one, but most people seem to hate it… especially with [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f]. I think it’s possible they’re right but I still think it sounds better than the other options!

Since this is an unbiased place I figured I’d run it by you ladies and see what you think.

[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] Belynn/Belynne/Bellyn Goettl

Again the other possible suggestions are
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f] Goettl
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] [name_f]Lynnette[/name_f] Goettl
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] Lynnae Goettl
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] [name_f]Becca[/name_f] Goettl

Names that have been suggested that I have indefinitely vetoed:

Evangeline Lynn
Evangeline Lynda
Evangeline Becky
Evangeline Becklynn
Evangeline Becky-Lynn

So please don’t suggest any of those!

Thoughts?

Nope, sorry, I just don’t see the appeal at all. I like [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f] from your list.

:frowning: Sigh. That’s what I was afraid of. If it weren’t for really wanting to honor a family member my list would have been:

[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f]
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] [name_f]Faye[/name_f]
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f]
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f]
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] [name_u]Ren[/name_u]ée
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] [name_f]Josette[/name_f]
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] Elisabette
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] [name_f]Isobel[/name_f]

I don’t mind [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f], and it would probably be my next choice out of the options I have but it’s very common and I just don’t feel like it’s the same style as [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f], or that it flows very well. I wish I wasn’t so picky.

The good news: [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] Goettl (which I’ve never known how to pronounce, so thank you!) sounds great!

I’m torn as to Belynne. On one hand (I’m sorry), I’m really not liking it, and I don’t think anyone would ever pronounce or spell it correctly, and it looks really made-up to me. On the other hand, the middle name rarely sees the light of day anyway, and if this would serve to honour an important person, that’s probably more important than aesthetics.

Partly it’s also tricky because to some people, the “-line” ending might already be sufficient to honour someone named [name_f]Lynne[/name_f]. I’d say the “line” ending is also why the [name_u]Lynn[/name_u] variant names aren’t sounding great with [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f].

Is [name_f]Becky[/name_f] [name_f]Lynne[/name_f]'s full name [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f]? If so, I’d vote for [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f] as the middle name. [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f] Goettl is a bit of a mouthful, but [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f] is a solid, traditional name.

Is there any other reasonably direct way of honouring [name_f]Becky[/name_f] [name_f]Lynne[/name_f] that doesn’t involve her name? Maybe is her surname somehow usable, or does your husband strongly associate her with, say, a particular kind of flower, or something along those lines? I wouldn’t recommend anything that’s much of a stretch, but if there was anything like that that you truly think she would recognize as an honour name, you might consider that.

I’m really not digging Belynne. I think it looks confusing; I never would have guessed it to be pronounced Boh-linn, but I expect you would get a lot of people saying buh-[name_f]LINN[/name_f] and BEY-linn. I would use [name_f]Belen[/name_f] over Belynne.

I think [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f] is beautiful. The names aren’t the same style, but they are both recognizable and I think they flow very nicely. The 4-3-2 rhythm is great.

I don’t know how you feel about this name, but I immediately thought of [name_f]Belinda[/name_f]. Some people like it, some hate it, but just throwing it out there. It could be seen as more romantic as [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f], if that’s what you’re going for. [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] [name_f]Belinda[/name_f] has the same rhythm as [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f], so I think it works equally as well, just depends on your taste.

If [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f] really doesn’t sit well with you, I like the idea that oregano7 suggested, to search for honor names/words in different places. Maybe the month she was born, or her birthstone? [name_m]Favorite[/name_m] flower? Surname or maiden name? If you aren’t intending it to be a surprise, then ask her what names she likes. Maybe she LOVES the name [name_f]Grace[/name_f], and intended to use it for a daughter if she had one, and then you would both be happy with [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f].

Lastly, have you considered honor initials? My mother and her siblings all have names honoring someone, but my grandmother didn’t particularly love the family members’ names, so she gave them the same initials. You could use just B, or B and L, names. I don’t know if two middles names are an option you’re willing to consider, but I think they can work very well. The name might be long, but family honor trumps that, in my opinion.

[name_f]Belen[/name_f]
[name_f]Belinda[/name_f]
[name_f]Blythe[/name_f]
[name_f]Beryl[/name_f]
[name_f]Belle[/name_f]/[name_u]Bell[/name_u]
[name_f]Bella[/name_f]
[name_f]Bree[/name_f]
[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]
[name_f]Bethany[/name_f]
[name_f]Bijoux[/name_f]
[name_u]Blaire[/name_u]
[name_f]Blanche[/name_f]
[name_f]Brynn[/name_f]
[name_f]Briar[/name_f]
[name_u]Brooke[/name_u]
[name_f]Layla[/name_f]
[name_f]Lily[/name_f]
[name_f]Lillian[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucille[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucinda[/name_f]
[name_u]Lennox[/name_u]
[name_f]Laura[/name_f]
[name_f]Lena[/name_f]

Great ideas everyone. Thanks for your input! As much as I was excited to find a unique and meaningful name to honor her, the more negative confirmation I get about the name Belynne, the more I am tending to agree with it. Sigh… back to the drawing board I think. [name_f]Becky[/name_f]'s name is not [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f], it’s just [name_f]Becky[/name_f]. But since [name_f]Becky[/name_f] is a derrivative of [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f] I’m strongly considering using [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f]. I’m not in love with it, but as someone else mentioned, the middle name is rarely said out loud with the first name anyway so it probably doesn’t matter as much as I think it does about flow, etc. I also don’t mind [name_f]Belinda[/name_f] with it… don’t love it either though. A good friend suggested just honoring [name_f]Becky[/name_f] by allowing her to help me choose the middle name, so I think I may do that instead. That way she can feel special and identify with the name without actually using one of her names when it doesn’t really work together. So I may just do that

Also, her last name is Cline, so I don’t know that the surname idea is usable either as I can’t think of an overly feminine variation of that, but great idea just the same!

I think [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f] is a good choice. I’m not really a fan of Belynne, and I would never think that it was pronounced that way.
Some other suggestions:
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] [name_f]Linnea[/name_f] Goettl
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] [name_f]Bea[/name_f] Goettl (I would pronounce it like bee, like the first letter in [name_f]Becky[/name_f], but you could do bee-a also)
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] [name_f]Clio[/name_f] Goettl (like Cline)
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] Cline Goettl
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] [name_m]Clarke[/name_m] Goettl
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] [name_m]Lay[/name_m]/e Goettl
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] [name_u]Lane[/name_u] Goettl
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] [name_u]Ray[/name_u]/[name_u]Rae[/name_u] Goettl
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] [name_f]Riva[/name_f] Goettl (Hebrew version of [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f]…I think)
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] [name_f]Elle[/name_f] Goettl (like the first letter in [name_f]Lynne[/name_f])
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] [name_f]Eyre[/name_f] Goettl (kind of like the first letter in [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f])

[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] [name_f]Linnea[/name_f] is so pretty♡

I do like Linnea. I think Belynn is out. lol
At least I tried! Just out of curiosity, since most of you said you would never think to pronounce it “ba-LYNN” (similar to Boleyn… which I have always heard sounding more like Buh-lynn than BO-lynn), how would you have pronounced it? When I see the original Belen, I think Helen… but with a B… which I don’t like… but I thought Belyn or Belynne with the emphasis on the ‘lynn’ part was ok. I might be crazy though  The original Spanish name is BELÉN… pronounced (bell-LEN).

^ This is how to pronounce the name. The original spelling is [name_f]BEL[/name_f]ÉN.

[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f] is beautiful and still honors [name_f]Becky[/name_f] [name_u]Lynn[/name_u].

Honestly, I’m not liking Belynne at all. I love that you are wanting to honor someone special, but I think there are a lot of nicer options than Belynne. [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] is gorgeous, and the very trendy looking/sounding Belynne just doesn’t sit well with her.

I would prefer to see [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] [name_f]Rebekah[/name_f] or [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] [name_f]Linnea[/name_f] myself (though the latter is a little heavy on the L’s).

Why don’t you just say that [name_f]EvangeLINE[/name_f] is in honour of [name_f]Becky[/name_f] [name_f]LYNNE[/name_f] and give your daughter a middle name that you like?

That’s a great idea too.

Belynne doesn’t really work but what about [name_f]Belinda[/name_f] ?
