Evangeline-how would you say it?

DH and I find it hard to agree on names so when we both were attracted to [name]Evangeline[/name] independently of each other but on the same day it seemed to good to be true. However we have different ways of saying it. I say [name]LINE[/name] at the end he says LEEN. I looked it up and there seem to be about 4-5 ways to pronounce this name. I was just wondering if there was a consensus.

Also what are the odds this is going to get popular?

Thanks.

ee-[name]VAN[/name]-ja-leen

[name]One[/name] of my favourites : )

I don’t think you are going to get a consensus. My favorite pronunciation is

uh-[name]VAN[/name]-juh-line

I would pronounce it Ee-[name]VAN[/name]-ja-leen.

eh-van-ja-leen.

It has a chance at becoming popular, and seems quite common among the Averys, Avas, Evelyns, Evas and Evies. Plus, it’s becoming an alternative, and with the trend of popular ‘e’ names ([name]Ella[/name], [name]Emma[/name], [name]Emily[/name], [name]Evelyn[/name], etc.)

[name]Evangelina[/name] might get you a pronounciation consensus- but the extra syllable might not work.

ee-[name]VAN[/name]-jeh-leen or ee-van-jeh-LEEN

NOT ee-van-jeh-[name]LINE[/name]. I know it’s a legit pronunciation, but I can’t stand it!

Isn’t it popular already? I know a few under 3. It’s at 286 for 2011, a steep climb from its first recent appearance in 2006 at 598, which was the first time it was in the top 1000 since 1966 (#947).
[name]Evangeline[/name] [name]Lilly[/name] is almost certainly to thank for re-introducing it to the top 1000.

2011 286
2010 334
2009 429
2008 452
2007 460
2006 598
2005 not in top 1000

1967 not in top 1000
1966 947
1965 968
1964 910
1963 877
1962 916

I say it with the “leen” ending. I think it’s a lovely choice.

I don’t think it will become popular but I think it might get a bit more attention. I say it eh-van-ja-leen

I say it, with the Leen ending.
And also, it looks like it is getting popular very fast, and looks like it may keep going up.
In the past 10 years it has gone from not being in the top 1000 name at all, to being #286 in 2011.

I say it with the leen ending, like the song “Ma [name]Belle[/name] [name]Evangeline[/name]” in The [name]Princess[/name] and the Frog. I believe e-van-je-line is a valid pronunciation, but I’ve never actually heard that. Whenever I hear the name spoken aloud, it’s e-van-je-leen.

  • LEEN. I always use the -leen ending and have no idea why people use the -line one. I guess it’s because the way I pronounce my name (Angelina), just adding Eve- in the front of it and deleting the -a behind. haha.

Get popular? Yes, totally. But not the top 100 unless there is a super popular movie or book launched and the character’s name is Evangeline (like in Isabella’s case).

I say it -leen and have always heard it that way.

  • LEEN, without a doubt!

ee-van-jeh-leen

E-van-gel-een

And unless [name]Evangeline[/name] pops up in the top 25, don’t sweat the popularity factor. It’s too gorgeous to take off the list because she might not be the ONLY one in her class.

This 100%! I could not agree more!

‘ee-van-ja-leen’

I work for an [name]Evangeline[/name]. She pronounces it [name]LINE[/name] not leen. It sounds more proper and elegant like that anyways.
