First, I was wondering how useable this name really is, is it too out there, and does it fit in with the name [name]Gideon[/name]? I’m also looking for a middle name for [name]Evanthe[/name], preferably a name that begins with the letter R.
[name]Evanthe[/name] is an elegant, inspiring name. But it’s mythological, whereas [name]Gideon[/name] is very recognizably Biblical.
I see [name]Gideon[/name] with names like
[name]Tabitha[/name]
[name]Dinah[/name]
[name]Sapphira[/name]
[name]Naomi[/name]
[name]Abigail[/name]
I like [name]Evanthe[/name] and [name]Gideon[/name]. I don’t see a problem mixing Biblical with other types of names. If I have my druthers, we’ll have a [name]Josiah[/name] and a [name]Matilda[/name] one day.
Would you pronounce it ev-[name]ANN[/name]-thee, or ev-AHN-thuh? Or some other way? I think the second pronunciation is more correct, but the former is probably more intuitive, at least in the US, and therefore more wearable.
I like it. It’s pretty, feminine, and striking.
I would probably pronounce it ev-ann-thee, but I had honestly never really considered the other pronunciation so I may have to give it some thought.
[name]True[/name] MissU. There’s nothing wrong with mixing names of different backgrounds. It’s just that [name]Gideon[/name] feels VERY Biblical to me, so [name]Evanthe[/name] wouldn’t be my first instinct. [name]Josiah[/name] is also very Biblical… but [name]Matilda[/name] feels quite Victorian and there were lots of Biblical names in use then too. There’s a common history.
Anyway, [name]Evanthe[/name] is great. I’m just nitpicking.
I say “Ev-AN-thee”
thanks for the advice! I really like the name so I think I might go with it, I just wanted to make sure it didn’t sound way to far from [name]Gideon[/name]. I’m okay with them being a little different I just don’t want names that sounds ridiculous together
