Evelyn

What is your opinion on the name Evelyn / Evelynn pronounced Ev-lin. Instead of Eve-lin or Ev-uh-lin. Everything helps thank you

I’ve only heard it pronounced as ev-uh-lyn personally, and eve-lyn on one occasion. I’m not personally a fan of any of the pronunciations, but I guess ev-lyn could work. I do think you’ll run into pronunciation issues though, if that’s a concern of yours.

It’s too popular to use an alternative pronunciation. I’d suggest [name_f]Evlin[/name_f] or [name_f]Evlynn[/name_f] but I think you’ll still find people having problems with pronouncing it. Maybe Ev-Lynn?

I think it’s a nice name and I have no reason to dislike it, but it’s just never been one of my favourites. I’d only ever heard it pronounced EV-uh-lyn - and that’s the way I would say it - but my OH’s grandmother was called Evelyn and whenever he mentions her name he says EVE-uh-lyn.

I think you will run into pronunciation issues, unless you spell it Evlyn, Evlynn or Evlin. But then, it just looks made up and sort of loses any appeal it did have (for me).

Depends on how common that pronunciation is in your area. If it’s not a common pronunciation, I think you have to correct people a lot.

You’re going to have to live with people saying Ev-uh-lyn. Unless you spell it phonetically, and even then it’ll get confused a lot.

I’d personally choose a name that you like the pronunciation of as it stands.

I think people will mispronounce it a lot unless it’s popular or familiar where you live. Is [name_f]Evlyn[/name_f] an option for you?

[name_f]My[/name_f] name is [name_f]Eveline[/name_f] and I think [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] is a beautiful name! People will pronounce it as Ev-uh-lin.

I would say it’s too popular to use a different pronunciation but ev-uh-lyn is so close to ev-lyn and when I say both I really can’t hear much difference.

Here’s the thing, say she’s in a big group and they’re going around the circle saying “hi, I’m so and so” when it gets to [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] (pronounced Ev-lin), everyone is just going to think her name is [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] (ev-uh-lyn) and that she just said it too fast. She’ll constantly be correcting people.

On top of that, I find [name_f]Evlyn[/name_f] hard to pronounce. [name_m]Just[/name_m] go with [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] “ev-uh-lyn”. That middle syllable is barely there anyways. Why make life more difficult than it needs to be?

[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]! I say it EV-eh-linn but EV-Lynn is nice too. I would love to meet a little [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u].

I say Ev-uh-lin and so does everybody I know. I think you’d have to correct people and she might end up preferring the usual pronunciation.

I really like [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] “ev-uh-lin,” but I can see “ev-lin” being a little tricky to enforce in real life since it’s so close to the more common pronunciation. (Also, I find myself accidentally inserting a little .25 syllable in the middle no matter what, even if I’m aiming for ev-lin). Very pretty name though!
