Evening Star

I know that technically I can name my baby whatever I want, however I wanted to get some feed back. I’ve been in love with the name since I first read the poem by [name]Poe[/name] in high school, but I’d like to know what it sounds like outside of my own head. Also, any alternatives with the same meaning would be appreciated.

[name]Evening[/name] is too much of a noun for me to be a name. Sorry. :frowning: [name]Star[/name] isn’t bad, but I would only use it as a mn. I’ll need to think of other names that you might like that have same or similar meanings…

“[name]Vedette[/name]” means “star” as in star in a movie or be in the limelight. It comes from the Latin word “videre” which means “to see” so I’m not sure it qualifies as the meaning you want but maybe so? I love @limelights other suggestions, especially [name]Vesper[/name] and [name]Yvaine[/name]!

I like [name]Evening[/name] and I like [name]Star[/name] but together they sound a bit literal when put together. [name]Eve[/name]/[name]Eva[/name] is a good nn for [name]Evening[/name] and [name]Star[/name] is a good middle but it just sounds a bit ott together. Think about how you would feel if you met a child called [name]Evening[/name] [name]Star[/name] [name]Walker[/name]? Use either but not both together.

You could possibly get away with [name]Evelyn[/name] [name]Star[/name]?

[name]Evening[/name] is too much for me, and [name]Star[/name] is OK in a MN spot.

To my ears, [name]Evening[/name] [name]Star[/name] sounds like the name of a celebrity perfume!

I think it’s just too much.

[name]Evening[/name] [name]Star[/name] sounds lovely but it also sounds like a description of a thing rather than a name for a person. I have my own rule for naming that would avoid this problem: one word name per combo. So I would suggest you choose one of them and then pick something else for a middle name.

[name]Evening[/name] is a guilty pleasure of mine, but I think it is too much as a first name for a real person. [name]Evening[/name] [name]Star[/name] sounds like the name of a fairy or my little pony, so I wouldn’t do two nouns together…

What about:

[name]Estella[/name] [name]Evening[/name]
[name]Estelle[/name] [name]Evening[/name]
[name]Stella[/name] [name]Evening[/name]
[name]Evelyn[/name] [name]Star[/name]
[name]Estrella[/name] [name]Evening[/name]
[name]Seren[/name] [name]Evening[/name]
[name]Vedette[/name] [name]Evening[/name]
[name]Etoile[/name] [name]Evening[/name]

These ones mean evening star, but most people won’t know, so I don’t think doubling up on meanings would matter much…
[name]Vespera[/name] [name]Star[/name]
[name]Vespera[/name] [name]Evening[/name]
Hesper [name]Star[/name]
Hesper [name]Evening[/name]
[name]Vesper[/name] [name]Star[/name]
[name]Vesper[/name] [name]Evening[/name]

If you’re looking for the touch of whimsy and something unique, maybe consider [name]Arwen[/name]. In the [name]Lord[/name] of the Rings story, she was known as [name]Arwen[/name] Undomiel, or [name]Arwen[/name] Evenstar ([name]Evening[/name] [name]Star[/name]), and she was supposed to be the most beautiful of the last generation of High Elves who lived on Middle-earth.

The [name]Evening[/name] [name]Star[/name] is actually just the planet [name]Venus[/name] when it appears in the sky after sunset.

[name]Venus[/name], [name]Aphrodite[/name] might be too literal “translations” of [name]Evening[/name] [name]Star[/name] but it would give you a way to keep the literal meaning without Choosing [name]Evelyn[/name] [name]Estelle[/name] or something along those lines.

[name]Venus[/name] was the goddess of love. Maybe a combo that has the meaning of love and the sound of [name]Evening[/name] or [name]Star[/name] might be nice.
[name]Beatrice[/name] [name]Estelle[/name] (she who brings happiness/ star)
[name]Esme[/name] Lior

Definitely not a fan. As @sugarfoot said, too literal. [name]Evening[/name] [name]Star[/name] isn’t a person to me, it’s an actual star.

Alternate ideas could be something [name]Leila[/name] [name]Celeste[/name], which has pretty close meanings to [name]Evening[/name] and [name]Star[/name].

Sounds like a newspaper.

I just joined today and this is my inaugural post!

I, too, think [name]Evening[/name] [name]Star[/name] has a lovely meaning but is overstated. I prefer name meanings to be a bit more subtle.

[name]May[/name] I suggest the name Evren? It is a spectacular Turkish name, equally used for males and females, and means “cosmos, universe.” It keeps the sound of “[name]Evening[/name]” with the obvious astronomical connotations.

[name]Soraya[/name], meaning the Pleiades, would be another choice. [name]Astraea[/name] too.

To me it is something, it is not a name. Like naming you child “washing machine”, “rain storm” or “right turn”. [name]Star[/name] can work with many names, evening however would be very difficult to pull off and the child would be teased greatly by adults and children. Not worth setting them up for that [name]IMO[/name]. “Your name is [name]Evening[/name]? I guess [name]Morning[/name] is done her work for the day”

Oh, I totally see the appeal. [name]Evening[/name] [name]Starlight[/name] is on a GP list of mine, and believe me, I recently took down my signature, but I basically have highly conservative taste, and I do still feel charmed. I do think either name is legitimately too much though. [name]Evening[/name] alone or [name]Star[/name] alone (probably not [name]Starlight[/name] alone) can be pulled off with a supportive parent and a balancing name, but together it is too much. There are loads of names alluding to Stars. [name]Evening[/name] has the potential nn of [name]Eve[/name] or [name]Evie[/name] which would help her fit in. [name]Evening[/name] [name]Stella[/name] or [name]Evening[/name] [name]Roxana[/name] are two lovely ways to get to the meaning. Or [name]Stella[/name] [name]Evening[/name], [name]Roxana[/name] [name]Evening[/name].
