Has a close friend or family member ever stolen your favorite name?
Fortunately for me, no. Unfortunately, they all think that I like odd names (they’re very traditional and somewhat boring folk, but I still love them).
Not yet haha, both my sister and I want to name a boy [name_u]Noah[/name_u]. So it’s a bit of a race as to who has a baby boy first haha, she’s not even thinking about kids yet though so fingers crossed whereas I’m pregnant with my second haha (girl).
Well, a famous somebody named [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_u]Kennedy[/name_u]… which was a combo that I liked. and [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] [name_m]Fisher[/name_m]. I love the combo [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f]… I got it when from I met someone who had a daughter named [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] and another named [name_f]Kate[/name_f]. I have bad luck with celebrities and names.
Also I read a NB blog post where someone liked the combo [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] Perergrine… which sounds similar to one of my favorites [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] [name_m]Peregrine[/name_m].
6 months before my daughter was born, family friends used [name_f]Juno[/name_f] as a middle for their daughter. We ummed and ahhed for about 20 seconds and then decided to use it anyway
Yes by my best friend. My husband and I decided we really loved the name [name_f]Mia[/name_f] for a girl (we pronounced it My-ah as I first encountered a girl named that who pronounced and spelled it that way vs the Mee-ah pronunciation). Best friend ends up pregnant about a month later and then finds out its a girl and names her [name_f]Mya[/name_f]. I was sad for a bit, resolved to use the name in the future anyway and then just fell in love with other names
Yes and no. Have family members used names that I had lined up for potential future babies? Yes. Were they stolen? No.
[name_u]Finn[/name_u] has been a favorite of mine for almost 10 years. I knew that with the popularity somebody would eventually use it. Well about 3 years ago my cousin used [name_u]Finley[/name_u] for her baby girl. 2 years later she named her lil boy [name_u]River[/name_u]. They are the cutest and their names are perfect.
I don’t think [name_u]Finn[/name_u] is off the table for me completely. By the time I have a baby to name, her [name_u]Finley[/name_u] will be 4 or older. But I don’t like that my [name_u]Finn[/name_u] wouldn’t be the first [name_u]Finn[/name_u] in the family. I want my baby to have his or her own name.
Similar to what lainy said.
There are a group of older cousins who had babies before me. We’re not close enough that I wouldn’t still consider using them, but it means my children won’t be the only ones in the family with those names which kind of sucks. And it’s getting to the point that several of the names I plan to use for future children are already in play ([name_f]Mila[/name_f], [name_u]Mason[/name_u], [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m], [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]). Not to mention that there are several relatives with similar names to begin with (close to [name_f]Natalie[/name_f], [name_f]Juliet[/name_f], [name_f]Kate[/name_f]).
If we were a close family it might bother me more. My brother will probably start having children in the next couple of years. I’m hoping we have different naming styles because that will really be a problem if we don’t!
