Everest, corny?

I love the name [name_u]Everest[/name_u]. I love the “[name_u]Ever[/name_u]” sound and the connotations the name whips up of bold snowy peaks, crisp winter air, the smell of pine… But I feel like its a bit cliche; Not exactly the right word It’s hard to explain exactly- I just feel like with no personal ties to Mt [name_u]Everest[/name_u] it maybe comes off a bit cheesy? This might be my antipathy towards names like [name_u]Paris[/name_u], [name_u]London[/name_u], [name_u]Brooklyn[/name_u], etc. speaking, (no offense towards anyone who likes those names, just a personal preference). What do you all think?

I think [name_u]Everest[/name_u] is a little bit of a weird choice when there’s the oh-so-similar and no-cheesy-factor [name_u]Everett[/name_u]. But I get what you mean by the cold, crisp, snowy and wintery mountain effect. Not sure if you started this thread because you’re expecting or just a name enthusiast like me, but maybe you’d like [name_u]Everett[/name_u] with a snowy middle name, like say, [name_f]Snow[/name_f]? [name_u]Everett[/name_u] [name_f]Snow[/name_f] is pretty awesome.

I don’t love place names either, and I think [name_u]Everest[/name_u] could be awesome. It’s very strong, and manly and adventurous and all that. I don’t even think of it as a place so much as a landform. I mean, yes a mountain is still a place. But it’s not a country or a city or something man-made. It reminds me of people climbing and achieving stuff.

And [name_u]Ever[/name_u] is a great nickname. If [name_m]Evander[/name_m] on our names list names it to first place, I’ll be calling him [name_u]Ever[/name_u] (because I can’t roll with [name_u]Evan[/name_u] :p)

[name_u]Everett[/name_u] is also such a nice choice, but it seems pretty popular (though that could just be a nameberry thing!)

Personally I’m not a fan of place names at all, but I think [name_u]Everest[/name_u] actually works, I’m suprised by how much I like it! I don’t think its corny, it makes me think strong, silent, handsome, wise- but not corny. I also really like the suggestion of [name_m]Evander[/name_m] nn [name_u]Ever[/name_u].

I don’t think [name_u]Everest[/name_u] is corny! I think is a nice nature-y alternative to the increasingly popular [name_u]Everett[/name_u].

To me it’s a little much. It kind of reminds me of the type of name that would only work on a celebrity’s child – someone who’s guaranteed to be wealthy and good looking. Otherwise it just seems a bit… overblown? I’d go with [name_u]Everett[/name_u]. I second the previous poster who said [name_u]Everett[/name_u] [name_f]Snow[/name_f] is a cool combo! But it also probably depends where you live. In my neighborhood that name might raise a few eyebrows but would hardly be the craziest thing anyone’s ever heard. In the (much more conservative and “middle [name_u]America[/name_u]”) town where I grew up though I can imagine little [name_u]Everest[/name_u] being ostracized by parents and kids alike!

Whoa–adults ostracizing a child based on their name?? sounds like insanity to me!!!

I don’t think [name_u]Everest[/name_u] is corny. I’m actually not a fan of word names at all but, surprisingly, [name_u]Everest[/name_u] is one of the very few exceptions as it brings to mind classics such as [name_u]Everett[/name_u] and [name_m]Ernest[/name_m]. But, if you’re still unsure, what about Everwyn? - it’s an older, lesser-known name choice. Still, I think [name_u]Everest[/name_u] is a perfectly lovely choice.

I’ve been crushing on [name_u]Everest[/name_u] for a while. It brings to mind the same imagery and associations for me as it does for you. I don’t like [name_u]Everett[/name_u] at all, but really adore [name_u]Everest[/name_u].

I think it’s a bit corny. Much prefer [name_u]Everett[/name_u].

I like it!

[name_u]Aspen[/name_u], [name_m]Forrest[/name_m] or [name_m]Vail[/name_m] might work for you too. Alpine might veer a bit too feminine.

I actually like it. I do love similar [name_u]Everett[/name_u], but that doesn’t bring to mind that picture at all. [name_u]Everest[/name_u] is a unique choice, but I think it could work just fine. If you are unsure of using it as a first maybe consider using it as a middle. [name_m]Just[/name_m] because you don’t have personal ties to the actual place doesn’t mean you can’t use it. Plus, as an added bonus, climbing Mt. [name_u]Everest[/name_u] is supposed to be a huge challenge and so is raising a kid although both are worth the challenge! [name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps

I have a crush on the name [name_u]Everett[/name_u], but [name_u]Everest[/name_u] is great
