Everett? Carter? Help me please!

Okay, so I posted a while ago that I had decided to name this baby [name]Audrey[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] if it’s a girl and [name]Everett[/name] nn Rett [name]Adam[/name] if it’s a boy. I’ve loved [name]Audrey[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] for a long time but I’m just not absolutely in love with [name]Everett[/name]/Rett still. I haven’t came across any other boy names that I like until today, when [name]Carter[/name] stuck out to me. DH hates [name]Carter[/name], but he is pretty wishy-washy with names and I have a feeling he can be convinced, especially if I find the right combo. I also have a stepson named [name]Bentley[/name], and while his name is nmsaa, I don’t want to completely clash with his name, either. I think [name]Carter[/name] and [name]Bentley[/name] go together a lot better than [name]Everett[/name] and [name]Bentley[/name].What do you think about my [name]Everett[/name]/Rett vs. [name]Carter[/name] dilemma? Also, I am very desperate for middle name suggestions for [name]Carter[/name]. Our last name is two syllables so I’d really prefer a 1 or 3 syllable middle name. Thank you so much for your help, berries!

Neither [name]Everett[/name] nor [name]Carter[/name] is really my style, but for what it’s worth, I prefer [name]Everett[/name]. I’ve heard of several little Carters in my area as well as at least one set of parents who were considering [name]Carter[/name] if their daughter had been a son, so on my radar [name]Carter[/name] verges on the trendy and boring. If I liked the two names equally well, the fact that [name]Carter[/name] was #41 last year while [name]Everett[/name] was still in the 200’s would tip me in [name]Everett[/name]'s favor. If your husband likes [name]Everett[/name] while disliking [name]Carter[/name], in your place I’d give that some weight, too.
I don’t think [name]Everett[/name] clashes too much with [name]Bentley[/name], either, especially with the nn Rett, though you’re right that [name]Carter[/name] is a better match.

Best wishes!

Thank you! I haven’t decided on either yet, but I did consider [name]Carter[/name] [name]Everett[/name] even though I’m afraid [name]Everett[/name] [name]Carter[/name] flows much better–which doesn’t help me with a middle name for [name]Carter[/name].

I’ll post the same thing I did in the other thread:

I think [name]Carter[/name] is one of those names that will sound really dated in a few years. It kind of jumped up in the 90’s & 2000’s and is likely hitting it’s peak popularity. I also think of it as rather ‘blah’ and likely to get thrown in with the surname/occupation name trend of recent. [name]Everett[/name], however, has a rich history and has remained rather steady on the U.S. SSA list between the 200th and the 600th spot for the past 50 years or so. It hit it’s peak during the turn of the century, so it has a kind of rich, old-world feel to it. Personally, I’d rather see you use [name]Everett[/name].

I had [name]Carter[/name] on my list for a while and I was going back and forth between [name]Evan[/name] and [name]Everett[/name] for a middle name, so I really love both your options. I think I had [name]Carter[/name] [name]Levi[/name] as my combo. [name]Don[/name]'t know if that is your style at all. Actually I think I had [name]Carter[/name] [name]Levi[/name] [name]Jamison[/name], we do two middles.
I actually think [name]Jamison[/name] or [name]James[/name] sounds really good with both [name]Carter[/name] and [name]Everett[/name]. I don’t know if [name]James[/name] is an option for you or not. But in my opinion, you can’t go wrong with either of these two names. I know that’s not the best help.
