Everett or Isaac (Ike)? Thoughts?

[name]Hi[/name], everyone,

This is my first post, so hello! I’ve been reading the forums for a while, trying to decide on a name for our baby boy, due in February. My husband is no help at all, and just says yes to every suggestion I make, which is no help in narrowing down the choices. We’ve actually “decided” on two or three different names, only for me to start second-guessing myself. Right now, we’re pretty much down to two names … [name]Everett[/name] and [name]Isaac[/name]. Here are my thoughts on each:

[name]Everett[/name]: I like the uniqueness … not [name]WAY[/name] out there or anything, but not a boring, ordinary name. When it first came up, my feeling was “country music star,” which isn’t a positive for me. But no one else seems to think the name has that feel. I kind of like the nickname [name]Ever[/name], even though I’m not sure that’s something we’d be brave enough to use.

[name]Isaac[/name]: We’d use the nickname “[name]Ike[/name]” with this one, and I like the slight “differentness” of it, but it feels like an old man’s name, which can be cute, but I’m just not sure in this case. I like the “laughter” meaning. I’m also kind of holding back on this one because I first heard it on a blog I read, and I don’t want to have my kid’s name be copied from a blog! Not that I know the writer personally or anything.

The middle name for either one would (probably) be [name]Gray[/name]. So, which one do you prefer: [name]Everett[/name] [name]Gray[/name] or [name]Isaac[/name] [name]Gray[/name]? My older son’s name is [name]Oliver[/name], if that impacts your decision!

[name]Kati[/name]

[name]Welcome[/name] to Nameberry, [name]Kati[/name]!

[name]Both[/name] combos are wonderful but I have a soft spot for [name]Isaac[/name] nn [name]Ike[/name]. It’s one of those vintage names that still sound cool after all of these years. [name]Isaac[/name] [name]Gray[/name] is definitely awesome. [name]Isaac[/name] is a classic and timeless name whereas [name]Everett[/name] is a trendy surname. Also, [name]Oliver[/name] and [name]Everett[/name] share a similar “er” sound so that’s why [name]Isaac[/name] won for me! Why don’t you bring the two combos to the hospital with you and make your final decision after meeting the little guy?

Stand-alone I like [name]Everett[/name] over [name]Isaac[/name]. [name]Even[/name] though I’m a born-and-raised Southerner, I don’t fit in, so if I got a “country music star” vibe, I’d be turned off too, but that wasn’t my first impression here. That being said, I think [name]Isaac[/name] goes with [name]Oliver[/name] a lot better, both by sound and by feel/style.

I 2nd [name]Mischa[/name]'s opinion. I really like [name]Isaac[/name]. I feel it has more depth than [name]Everett[/name] & I prefer its meaning. I don’t think it matters where you find inspiration for a name as long as the reasons you choose it are good (i.e. you love it, it has a good meaning, it reminds you of someone etc.) I first learned of my top girl’s name in a newspaper column on parenting naughty children. I’m still going to use it if/when I have a daughter!

I love [name]Everett[/name]! It’s my second choice for a boy. I love [name]Isaac[/name], too, but I generally prefer it as a MN. The repetitive sounds (the strong “V” and the “er” sounds) don’t really bother me with [name]Oliver[/name] and [name]Everett[/name], but [name]Oliver[/name] and [name]Isaac[/name] are distinct. I don’t know if you’re open to it, but I would love to see [name]Everett[/name] [name]Isaac[/name] [name]Gray[/name]!

Good luck!

Here’s a vote for [name]Isaac[/name]. I [name]LOVE[/name] the name, and [name]Ike[/name] is a fine nn.

I really like [name]Everett[/name]. I like [name]Isaac[/name] too but I’m not a huge fan of the nn [name]Ike[/name]. [name]Both[/name] sound good with [name]Gray[/name], which I also really like.

I really like [name]Isaac[/name] [name]Gray[/name]. Or maybe even [name]Isaac[/name] [name]Everett[/name]. [name]Ike[/name] is a cute nickname for a little one, would sound good as you cheer from the stands at a high school game, could be used by a man at work and I can totally see a Grandpa [name]Ike[/name]. So the name and nickname would both have ‘staying power’. As far as [name]Everett[/name], I do think the nickname [name]Ever[/name] would be very sweet on a small child but might not translate so well to adulthood for a guy. Maybe my views are influenced by the fact that I know a teenage girl who goes by [name]Ever[/name]. Her full name is [name]Everly[/name].

I prefer [name]Everett[/name]. I am not a big fan of the nickname [name]Ike[/name], and my brain stumbles over the aa in [name]Isaac[/name].

Have you considered [name]Rhett[/name] as a nickname for [name]Everett[/name]?

[name]Do[/name] you call your [name]Oliver[/name] [name]Ollie[/name]? If so, I do think [name]Ollie[/name] and [name]Ike[/name] sound adorable together, despite what I said above.

I’m going to put a vote in for [name]Isaac[/name]. I love [name]Isaac[/name], I love [name]Ike[/name], and I love laughter. Plus, [name]Mike[/name] & [name]Ollie[/name]? Yes, please!

Another vote for [name]Isaac[/name]. I love it with [name]Oliver[/name] too!

[name]Isaac[/name] [name]Gray[/name] and [name]Oliver[/name]. [name]Everett[/name] is too many similar sounds/letters with [name]Oliver[/name] imo.

Thanks so much to everyone who has weighed in! I really appreciate the unbiased input … it’s so weird to talk to friends/family about name stuff.

I can say that I’m definitely leaning more toward [name]Isaac[/name]/[name]Ike[/name] than before … we’ve probably, maybe, even decided on it. It is the one we keep coming back to … I go to flirt with other names and then always end up back at [name]Isaac[/name]. So that probably means something.

By the way, we’ve never called my son [name]Ollie[/name] — I just never really liked it — but I do kind of love the [name]Ike[/name] and [name]Ollie[/name] combo that someone pointed out!

Again … the input has been fantastically helpful. You guys rock!

I vote for [name]Issac[/name] [name]Oliver[/name] love this name!!!

[name]Both[/name] are good, but I vote [name]Isaac[/name] [name]Gray[/name]
