Which do you prefer and why?
We are considering [name]Everett[/name] in naming our boy. To me it has an air of sophistication and old world charm. [name]Emmett[/name] seems more fun and playful and reminds me of football-great [name]Emmitt Smith[/name].
I prefer [name_u]Everett[/name_u] to [name_u]Emmett[/name_u]. I just like the way [name_u]Everett[/name_u] sounds when I say it out loud, and it has a cool feel to me. While [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] sounds a tad awkward when I say it (probably just me). I guess the spelling throws me off too, theres no spelling I love for [name_u]Emmett[/name_u]. Again just me personally. I agree with PP it seems more fun and playful though
I like both a lot, but I prefer [name_u]Everett[/name_u]. Cant say why really, I just love saying it. For some reason, I picture [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] as a bit of a nerd. No idea why. If African-American history/the civil rights movement means anything to you however, I like the connection to [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] [name_m]Till[/name_m]. Sad story but an important one.
I do see [name_u]Everett[/name_u] as becoming more popular/trendy though.
I think both are great choices, [name_u]Everett[/name_u] has a strong sound and old fashioned charm while [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] sounds like an athletic boy.
I’m not really sure, they’re about level pegging with me. I’d maybe say [name_u]Emmett[/name_u], just. But basically, I really like them both.
I really prefer [name_u]Emmett[/name_u]. It just seems more approachable and wearable. I also like [name_u]Everett[/name_u], but would never personally use it. I [name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_u]Emmett[/name_u]!
I prefer [name_u]Emmett[/name_u]. For our own Irish/Jewish intermarried family it’s pretty perfect as [name_u]Emmet[/name_u]/[name_u]Emmett[/name_u] is an Irish name and it sounds like the Hebrew word “Emet” meaning “truth” so I think of it as almost a masculine virtue name, but not one that’s too in-your-face - [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] is very low-key compared to, say, Makepeace or something.
For whatever reason people keep asking me “like [name_m]Doc[/name_m] in Back to the [name_u]Future[/name_u]?” but I do not find that terribly bad.
[name_u]Everett[/name_u] isn’t awful or anything but it doesn’t grab me.
I like [name_m]Emmanuel[/name_m] too but that’s a bit too Jewish for my husband.
Like them both but [name_u]Everett[/name_u] is more serious
Neither name is my style, but I definitely prefer [name_u]Everett[/name_u]. It somehow comes across as more intelligent? I have no idea why. [probably a subconscious association]
I prefer [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] by a long shot. [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] feels friendly, laid back, and genuine, whereas [name_u]Everett[/name_u] has always felt off to me. Maybe it’s too preppy?
[name_u]Everett[/name_u] was my son’s middle name, so I’m biased, but I definitely prefer it anyway. I might be picky, but I also dislike the way [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] seems to get shortened to [name_f]Em[/name_f] or [name_f]Emma[/name_f] or something that I’d typically (close-mindedly) associate with a girl, so.
i like both! i think i’ve come to like [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] more bc it has namesake weight. however, [name_u]Everett[/name_u] is just as good to me.
I prefer [name_u]Emmett[/name_u]. To me [name_u]Everett[/name_u] sounds a little posh. [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] is most wearable in my opinion.
[name_u]Everett[/name_u] because for me, [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] kinda sounds like [name_f]Emma[/name_f] or [name_f]Emmy[/name_f] to me.
I like [name_u]Emmett[/name_u], but I love [name_u]Everett[/name_u]. [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] is more MN material for me. I can just see me with an [name_u]Everett[/name_u] and I love the image I get of a little boy with the name. I love the occasional nn of Ev, and the option of [name_u]Ever[/name_u] and [name_m]Rhett[/name_m] if he wanted it. I love the imagery of [name_m]New[/name_m] [name_f]England[/name_f] that I get, of forested mountain ranges and roasting marshmallows with grandpa and patriotism and an eloquent orator-senator fighting for the rights of African Americans in the 1850s and 1860s. I just love [name_u]Everett[/name_u], I think it’s fab. [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] is nice, but it doesn’t compare to [name_u]Everett[/name_u] at all, imo.
I prefer [name_u]Emmett[/name_u]. I just can’t picture a boy liking being named [name_u]Everett[/name_u]. Maybe the [name_u]Ever[/name_u] at the beginning throws me off, because it sounds kind of feminine to me. And it sounds too preppy or posh for me. I really like the sound and look of [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] too. Neither of them are my style, but I much prefer [name_u]Emmett[/name_u].
The [name_f]Em[/name_f]/[name_f]Emma[/name_f] thing for [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] doesn’t seem any worse to me than the Ev/[name_f]Evvie[/name_f]/[name_f]Evie[/name_f] thing for [name_u]Everett[/name_u]? To be fair I don’t think [name_f]Eva[/name_f]/[name_f]Evie[/name_f]/[name_u]Everly[/name_u]/[name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] ruin [name_u]Everett[/name_u]… but neither do I think [name_f]Emma[/name_f]/[name_f]Emily[/name_f] ruin [name_u]Emmett[/name_u]. Or matter at all, really.
I like both, but prefer [name_u]Everett[/name_u].
I prefer [name_u]Emmett[/name_u]. It was an option when I was pregnant with our youngest son but we went with [name_m]Eamon[/name_m] instead. Still really like the name though
