Everlea?

I’ve been really loving the look of the -lea ending (pronounced -lee) on a few names. [name_u]Everly[/name_u] is one name I’m never sure how to spell – every spelling kind of looks off to my eye. I was wondering a couple things about this one in particular:

  1. Does Everlea look like it’s trying too hard, or does it seem like a natural spelling?

  2. Would there be a constant pronunciation issue, or would people intuit it’s the familiar [name_u]Everly[/name_u]/rhymes with [name_u]Chelsea[/name_u]?

I think it looks like you’re trying too hard to be unique. I guessed it was [name_u]Everly[/name_u] but I do think you’d get the occasional [name_u]Ever[/name_u]-leah pronunciations.

If you spell it Everlea everyone is going to assume it is pronounced ever- lee-uh, so if you want it pronounced ever-lee I would go with the most common spelling of [name_u]Everly[/name_u].

I would spell Everlea and [name_u]Everly[/name_u] the same, but I do think Everlea is an unnecessary complication - it looks better as [name_u]Everly[/name_u].

When I read this, I pronounced it ‘Ev-er-lee-uh’, sounding more like ‘[name_f]Leah[/name_f]’. I would personally go with [name_u]Everly[/name_u] to avoid pronunciation issues.
My name is [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], and I’ve had it mispronounced several times before (somehow), so I would recommend trying to go for the more intuitive spelling wherever possible, to avoid confusion.
That’s just my opinion, though.

I also saw it as [name_u]Ever[/name_u]-[name_f]Leah[/name_f]…

Since you asked, I do think Everlea looks like it’s trying too hard. To me, it also looks as if a letter is missing at the end.

I do love Avonlea though.

It did look like a different spelling of Everlea to me, but I think you’d have trouble with her having to spell it out all the time. I also want to pronounce it ev-er-[name_u]LEE[/name_u] instead of EV-er-lee for some reason.

I would also pronounce it as ev-er-lee-ah, you should probably go for the [name_u]Everly[/name_u] spelling

Stick to [name_u]Everly[/name_u]. I went to high school with a [name_f]Kelsea[/name_f] who constantly got “KELL-see-uh,” and I imagine Everlea would have a similar issue.

Yeah, I also say stick to [name_u]Everly[/name_u]. There’s a processed cheese brand in the UK called Dairylea (dairy-lee) and all -lea names just remind me of it, so I can’t get behind Everlea (which I did pronounce just like [name_u]Everly[/name_u], if that helps).

I love [name_f]Rosalea[/name_f] and Avonlea, but Everlea just doesn’t do it for me. Feels like too much of a stretch, somehow.

eta: Did a bit more searching, and I actually kind of like [name_f]Evalea[/name_f]! A very slight difference, but it looks slightly cleaner and less like a mash up imo.
