Everley Winterfell?

So, recently I have been thinking about the name [name_m]Everley[/name_m] Winterfell [name_f]Jane[/name_f]. I love the combo of [name_m]Everley[/name_m] Winterfell, and I think [name_f]Jane[/name_f] balences it nicely. The only problem is, the surname ends with an “ell” sound, but it’s not exactly the same sound as the ending sound of Winterfell. However, with [name_f]Jane[/name_f] between the two, I can’t stop hearing it as sounding kind of rhymy "Winterfell [name_f]Jane[/name_f]- then the surname with an “ell” ending.

I want to love it, but I can’t stop hearing it as sounding sort of rhymy. And [name_f]Jane[/name_f] honours a family member and has been decided on for ages so taking [name_f]Jane[/name_f] out of the name is a no-go.

So, I know it might be a bit hard to answer as I’m not giving out the full surname, but do you think the name would still sound okay with two “ell” endings in the middle and last name (not the exact same sound though) but with [name_f]Jane[/name_f] seperating them?

Edit: Since it’s been mentioned, Winterfell is purposely being used for the Game of Thrones connection

I love the name [name_m]Everley[/name_m], but everyone is going to think you named her after Game of Thrones if you go with Winterfell. Unless that’s what you are doing? Personally I would just go with [name_m]Everley[/name_m] [name_f]Jane[/name_f].

I think the two “ell” endings would be fine with [name_f]Jane[/name_f] between them, but I can’t really get past the Game of Thrones connection with Winterfell.

What about [name_m]Everley[/name_m] [name_u]Winter[/name_u] [name_f]Jane[/name_f]? I think that is absolutely stunning!

I think it will sound fine as long as you don’t mind the Game of Thrones connection  . I personally don’t like rhymy type names but that’s just a personal preference, as long as you don’t mind it then go for it!

[name_m]Everley[/name_m] Winterfell [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is gorgeous, without knowing the name it’s a little hard but I imagine it to be more cohesive than rhymey, often similar sounds tie names together nicely.

If it really does bother you, a couple of other options might be:
Wintertale
Winterflower
Winterfrost
Midwinter
Winterbelle
Frostflower
Snowflower

I think all those have the same winter/Christmassy vibe with [name_m]Everley[/name_m] and sound beautiful as a [name_m]Everley[/name_m] __ [name_f]Jane[/name_f] combo.

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helped!

I think it’s pretty cool! And I’m assuming you don’t mind the GoT association.

I think [name_m]Everley[/name_m] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] Winterfell flows a bit better in general, but I can see your concern with your surname. So I think [name_m]Everley[/name_m] Winterfell [name_f]Jane[/name_f] -ell is also totally fine. It is hard to tell without knowing the surname - also consider how many syllables it is and where the emphasis is e.g. [name_m]Everley[/name_m] Winterfell Handel isn’t that bad but something like [name_m]Everley[/name_m] Winterfell [name_f]Adelle[/name_f] might be.

Based on the response from Scholastica, I absolutely adore [name_m]Everley[/name_m] Midwinter!

Overall I think it’s a very cool name. I wouldn’t worry about the GoT association especially since it’s just a middle name and people will eventually forget about GoT. The trendiness of [name_m]Everley[/name_m] would be my biggest concern. But you should definitely us it if you love it. The whole name does sound very nice together with Winterfell and [name_f]Jane[/name_f] in either order.

Not a fan of using Winterfell - it seems a bit tacky to name your kid after Game of Thrones, and despite what a good show/series it is, I wouldn’t want my child’s name to be associated with something that is often so crude.

I like this combo! Nice mixture of styles that still works.

I wouldn’t worry too much about the “rhyme” in theory, if that makes sense. More if you personally dislike the sound. I think [name_f]Jane[/name_f] inbetween the names helps tremendously. Honestly I like names with cohesive sounds that flow into each other, but that’s a regular ol’ preference thing.

I also like all the suggestions @scholastica has made.

I don’t mind the repeating sounds since they’re split up by the second middle. I really don’t care for the name itself at all, to be honest, but I realize that wasn’t your question!

I think what’s throwing me off is the amount of syllables; specifically, I think [name_m]Everley[/name_m] is too long with Winterfell [name_f]Jane[/name_f] in the middle. It makes the name feel complete before the last name is added on, which then (to me, at least) emphasizes the length and slight rhyming in the combination. I think a two-syllable first name might work better.

(In my head, I used “[name_m]Haskell[/name_m]” as the stand-in, since it’s two syllables and I don’t pronounce it the same as the end of Winterfell.)

[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] Winterfell [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_m]Haskell[/name_m]
[name_u]Ever[/name_u] Winterfell [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_m]Haskell[/name_m]
[name_u]Eden[/name_u] Winterfell [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_m]Haskell[/name_m]
[name_f]Lily[/name_f] Winterfell [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_m]Haskell[/name_m]
[name_f]Lilah[/name_f] Winterfell [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_m]Haskell[/name_m]

Those just seem to flow better, and don’t sound too long.

Of course, I’m assuming that [name_m]Everley[/name_m] isn’t a necessity-if you absolutely adore it, then use it, but I do think it could work better with other middle names.

Stops half way in a chapter of Game of Thrones to check nameberry, just to find this post too funny!! Lol

I like this name! It’s quirky, but has 2 very classic names that really balance it out. I think either version works, the ending “-ell” doesn’t seem like a problem imo.

I’ll agree with most and say that it doesn’t seem too terrible so you could very well go for it. Though I understand your concern with the sound.

My personal biggest problem with the combo (which is super pretty btw) is the first two names having three syllables each. That, in my opinion makes it slightly awkward to the ear. The first thing I thought (and someone else mentioned as well) was [name_m]Everley[/name_m] [name_u]Winter[/name_u] [name_f]Jane[/name_f]. I think that is absolutely stunning and more or less maintains the ASOIAF connection!

I love GoT but I don’t love Winterfell at all as a human’s name.
I agree with others that [name_u]Winter[/name_u] sounds and looks much better. All 3 names sound nice together, minus the -fell part.
(and if you read the books - considering Jeyne is [name_m]Robb[/name_m]'s murdered wife kinda makes it even more cringey to me - just all sorts of [name_u]Red[/name_u] Wedding vibes lol)

But - your baby, your choice.

I think it’s awesome that you’re going with a GoT reference (some people forget that it was a book series before it was a show. There is no shame in getting names from books or other good media imo). The thing is, GoT has some WONDERFUL character names - why go with Winterfell? GRRM is like, [name_m]Lord[/name_m] of Names and does an excellent job making ones up and retrieving old and unfamiliar ones.

I am also not big on [name_u]Everly[/name_u] at all, because it feels empty and meaningless.

I actually this the GoT connection is kinda cool. Valar morghulis. 8)

[name_m]Everley[/name_m] Winterfell [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is stunning. I don’t think the two ell endings is such a big deal, especially as they don’t really sound the same.

I think it’s going to sound very, very dated in a decade or two.

[name_m]Even[/name_m] as a asoiaf fan I can’t see Winterfell as a name - though I love [name_m]Everley[/name_m] (maybe [name_u]Everly[/name_u] as spelling) Winterfell as a combination without [name_f]Jane[/name_f], maybe I could suggest other Norther names for you?

For starters [name_u]Everly[/name_u] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] could be used, as Jeyne Westerling is [name_f]Queen[/name_f] in the [name_u]North[/name_u] - I am speaking for the books, she is still alive and she has a chance o ruling as a co-regent unlike [name_f]Talisa[/name_f] and Jeyne Poole was friend of [name_f]Sansa[/name_f] and she is now Lady Bolton/Lady of Winterfell, traveling to [name_u]North[/name_u] to meet [name_m]Jon[/name_m].

If you want a place name I would say Goldgrass since [name_u]North[/name_u] doesn’t offer some namey names.

[name_f]Amber[/name_f], Ashwood, Fenn, [name_u]Reed[/name_u], [name_m]Locke[/name_m], and [name_m]Moss[/name_m] are some House names from the [name_u]North[/name_u].
