Every single time I pick a name it gets popular. 9 weeks and name is going up UGGH

I swear every single time I pick out a name it seems to get popular. I liked [name_u]Alex[/name_u], way back when. [name_u]Skyler[/name_u] when I was a teenager,I am 40 and expecting our miracle baby. now the name we had picked out is a name of the day~ I don’t want me child in a class with 15 of the same name. I picked out this name because it was Hebrew and I am Jewish. I want my child to know their Jewish roots. So do I stick with it and pray there are not a ton of other boys in the class with the name or keep looking??? Anyone can help with non popular Jewish boy names would be great. Or do I just pray???!!

It’s really not that big of a deal. This isn’t 1998 anymore, chances are your child will not have more than a handful (if even that) of classmates that share his name…in his entire life. And honestly any time you name a child, there is a risk that whatever name you choose could become popular literally overnight. You could choose a name that was given to only four little boys in the whole country and that could be the next main character in a bestseller, and could shoot up into the Top 100 in a matter of months. Never ever change your mind about a name you love and that is special to you just because it’s popular.

If you love the name, use it. I don’t think you should second guess yourself.

Names get popular for a reason. If it wasn’t a great name, it wouldn’t be popular. Stick with it!

There are so many great boys names ([name_m]Adlai[/name_m], [name_m]Abram[/name_m], [name_u]Ellis[/name_u], [name_u]Elias[/name_u], [name_u]Seth[/name_u], [name_m]Gideon[/name_m], [name_m]Simon[/name_m], [name_u]Ira[/name_u], [name_m]Barnaby[/name_m], [name_m]Lev[/name_m], [name_u]Mika[/name_u], [name_m]Noam[/name_m], [name_m]Eben[/name_m], I could go on & on) that feel somewhat uncommon yet so 2014. I am all about letting go of high school favorites in favor of names (or hairstyles or clothing trends!) that feel fresh, but that’s just me. I do think that [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] is so classic & perfect that he could be born in any generation. Good luck!

Honestly, popularity is no where near what it was in the 80’s. My DD’s name is [name_f]Alyssa[/name_f]. It was #16 the year before she was born when we were researching names. She’s now 7 years old and we’ve yet to meet another [name_f]Alyssa[/name_f] near her age.

For me, it depends on how popular it is and more importantly, is it just trendy, or classically popular. There are many little [name_u]James[/name_u]'s out there, but I don’t care because it is such a great solid name. [name_u]Jaden[/name_u] is popular where I live, but it is just trendy and doesn’t have staying power. All that being said, it is most important that you love the name.
