I love [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] and think it’s definitely useable! However, if you’re getting lots of negative feedback on it, try [name_f]Maisie[/name_f]. They have the same meaning and are similar. [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] is much less popular than [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], and many people prefer it.
[name_f]My[/name_f] favorites from your list are [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_f]Isabella[/name_f], and [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]; however, they are VERY popular!
If you like [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], I say go for it! I think it’s a lovely name.
I personally don’t like [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]. I wish I did like the name [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] as there is a special woman named [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] who I’d love to honour but I just dislike this choice. I am considering [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] as an option though
[name_f]My[/name_f] favourites from your list…
[name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] Bresland
[name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] Bresland
[name_f]Victoria[/name_f] Bresland
[name_f]Sophia[/name_f] Bresland
You have a list of beautiful names but I think with your surname you want a name that is relatively long in length and ends in an ‘a’ for the best flow
I love [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]. I have a [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] and sometimes consider missing out on [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] and all of her great nicknames. I’m not sure if [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] will win over anyone who has dismissed [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] as being too old fashioned (my daughter is named for one of her great great great aunts), but it’s an alternative, and for what it is worth our pediatrician defaults to calling [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] “[name_f]Maggie[/name_f]” regularly.
Also, don’t worry too much about other people’s opinions— it’s ok to have a different style. [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] is a classic name and will remain a classic name long after some more “current” (trendy) names feel dated.
Margaret is such a beautiful and timeless name! I’m surprised you received a bad feedback about [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]. It’s absolutely stunning!
[name_f]Margot[/name_f], [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f], [name_f]Maisie[/name_f], [name_f]Rita[/name_f], [name_f]Greta[/name_f], [name_f]Marigold[/name_f], [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f], [name_f]Madge[/name_f], [name_f]Mercy[/name_f], [name_f]Mara[/name_f] and [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] could be some great alternatives.
Your list is beautiful. I love [name_f]Olive[/name_f], [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f], [name_f]Ivy[/name_f], [name_f]Victoria[/name_f], [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], [name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_f]Emma[/name_f] and [name_f]Isabella[/name_f].

[name_f]Brigid[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucille[/name_f]
[name_f]Lydia[/name_f]
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f]
Love [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] and [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]
Wow surprised to hear strong opinions on the name [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]. I personally love it and the nn [name_f]Maggie[/name_f]. I also have a friend who named her daughter [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] and it is adorable! I really like the name [name_f]Margot[/name_f] as a more current option too. Good luck!
Margaret Bresland is beautiful and [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] is absolutely usable. It’s a classic! [name_f]My[/name_f] toddler watches [name_m]Daniel[/name_m] [name_m]Tiger[/name_m] and that is the name of his little sister which I think is cute - that’s my current association with the name haha. I feel like that show will make it much more well known to kids her age too.
I agree with the other suggestions, [name_f]Margot[/name_f] could be a more current contender.
With your surname, I like:
[name_f]Violet[/name_f],
[name_f]Ivy[/name_f],
[name_f]Isla[/name_f],
[name_f]Sophia[/name_f]
and [name_f]Ava[/name_f]
Good luck x
I must agree that [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] is too much of an old name today, along with names like [name_f]Mary[/name_f], [name_f]Maureen[/name_f], [name_f]Barbara[/name_f], etc. Those are a couple of the few old fashioned names which people look funny upon today I find, names preferred that are more classic but still accepted can include:
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]
[name_f]Florence[/name_f]
[name_f]Kathleen[/name_f]
[name_f]Margot[/name_f]
[name_f]Debbie[/name_f] ([name_f]Deborah[/name_f])
[name_f]Katherine[/name_f]
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]
[name_f]Alice[/name_f]
[name_f]Clarice[/name_f] / [name_f]Clarissa[/name_f]
[name_f]Dorothea[/name_f]
[name_f]Ella[/name_f] / [name_f]Ela[/name_f] (alternative spelling)
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] / [name_f]Elisa[/name_f]
[name_f]Etta[/name_f]
[name_f]Esther[/name_f]
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f]
[name_f]Grace[/name_f]
[name_f]Harriet[/name_f] / [name_f]Hattie[/name_f]
[name_f]Maisie[/name_f] / [name_f]Mazie[/name_f]
[name_f]Mavis[/name_f]
[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]
[name_f]Tilly[/name_f]/ [name_f]Tillie[/name_f]
[name_f]Wilma[/name_f]
[name_f]Trudy[/name_f]
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u]
[name_f]Martha[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucinda[/name_f]
[name_f]Maisie[/name_f] / [name_f]Mazie[/name_f]
I don’t like [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] at all, sorry. I much prefer [name_f]Margot[/name_f], Margali or [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] for a 2020 child
I much prefer [name_f]Margot[/name_f] to [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], but name your daughter whatever you wish and both are beautiful. I particularly like [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] from your list. A few other suggestions:
Eleanor Bresland
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f] Bresland
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f] Bresland
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] Bresland
[name_f]Harriet[/name_f] Bresland
Wow, some lovely feedback from you all. Thank you so much for taking the time to comment!
I agree with midwinter: I’m surprised you’ve mainly gotten negative feedback on the name [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]. I love it and the nickname [name_f]Maggie[/name_f], but it does seem like a lot of the people who find it dated are in [name_m]Britain[/name_m] while I’m in the States. That may make a difference. I know several young Margarets.
As for the other names you listed, I like almost all of them, but I thought that I would mention that [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] Bresland makes me think of [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] [name_u]Breslin[/name_u]. Not sure if you’d care about that, but some people would, so I figured I’d point it out.
I love [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], [name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], [name_f]Sophia[/name_f], and [name_f]Ella[/name_f] with your last name!
As for honest opinions on [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]… I’ve considered it myself. I honestly don’t LOVE it—it’s just there if that makes sense? I think other names are much prettier but it’s timeless and has a million wonderful nicknames. I would’ve considered it to get to [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] as a nn, but I liked [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] nn [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] a bit more (I honestly don’t love [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], either, which is why I’m testing out just [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] now). I like [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] better myself, or the Portuguese [name_f]Margarida[/name_f], but it’s a perfectly lovely name. It’s just not something I’ve ever gotten EXCITED about, but it’s a fine name? I think something like [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] would be pretty and modern and still give you your beloved [name_f]Maggie[/name_f], but if you worry about the opinions of others too much to feel like it’s the one, there’s always [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f], [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f], [name_f]Margalit[/name_f], [name_f]Magali[/name_f], [name_f]Margot[/name_f], [name_f]Margery[/name_f], etc., that you could use—even [name_f]Magenta[/name_f]? Or a combination of first initials, like [name_f]Mae[/name_f] [name_f]Agatha[/name_f] or [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] or [name_f]Mercy[/name_f] [name_f]Agnes[/name_f]?
Good luck!
I think [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] would be okay for a baby today, especially with the nickname [name_f]Maggie[/name_f], even if I don’t personally like the name. From your list, I like [name_f]Ivy[/name_f], [name_f]Lucille[/name_f], [name_f]Olive[/name_f], and [name_f]Violet[/name_f].
You should definitely use [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] if it’s your favorite. And yes, I’ve heard of some little Margarets.
[name_f]Margaret[/name_f] definitely works for a baby- there are so many nicknames! She could go with [name_f]Maggie[/name_f], [name_f]Meg[/name_f], [name_f]Margo[/name_f], [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], there are so many options. I also love [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f], [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f], and [name_f]Isla[/name_f] for you
I think [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] is a great name! [name_f]My[/name_f] 7 year old niece has this name and goes by [name_f]Maggie[/name_f]. From your list, I also love [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f].
