[name_f]Maria[/name_f] and [name_f]Ann[/name_f] are both common classic names that LOTS of people have. Heck, I know someone whose spouse had the same name as his ex!
It sounds like your family says classic names are too boring and unusual names are too weird. You can’t win!
I agree with PPs, don’t discuss names with them, when you’re baby is born and the birth certificate is signed they’ll have a baby to be excited about instead of nitpicking names.
My mother and some of my friends absolutely hate my naming style. My mother has been known to visibly shudder if she has [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] or [name_f]Astrid[/name_f], and they’re not that unusual. She had a great deal of influence over my daughter’s name -which I do love! - And sometimes I wonder what she would have been called if I’d been left to my own devices (probably [name_f]Anais[/name_f]).
[name_m]Felix[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m], like almost every other poster has said is lovely! And I agree, don’t tell people your baby names until you’ve named one. Then they tend to hold their tongues. Otherwise you get all sorts of ridiculous comments.
I’ll tell you what I’ve decided to do if I’m ever expecting another one, and I’d genuinely have loads of fun doing it. I’ve decided to spend the entire 9 months convincing everyone I’m naming the baby Detective Inspector. “Its gender neutral and everything!”, “Its a strong name, I can’t think of anything I’d like better!”. By the time the baby is born, anything will sound better than Detective Inspector (Surname) and people will be relieved when I announce a new [name_f]Romilly[/name_f], or [name_m]Jasper[/name_m].
[name_m]Don[/name_m]'t let the muggles get you down!
The names you chose are very beautiful and nice . Since they have personal significance for you or simply appeal to you, you should ignore these opinions and decide about the name of your future child with your husband. About being bullied, I don’t think it’s a rare phaenomenon, many people have been bullied about their names because they’re popular, uncommon, exotic or whatever. People will always find something bad to say. My advice is to ignore everyone because nobody has the right to hold you back from using your favourite names.
