[name]Just[/name] wondering how you would pronounce [name]Evi[/name] or [name]Evy[/name]…I like the pronunciation Eh-vie, but don’t know how to get there. Any thoughts?
I’d probably pronounce [name]Evi[/name] like “Ee-vee”. Not sure how you could spell “Eh-vie”, I was going to suggest Eavie but that would sound more like “Ay-vie”.
Sorry I can’t help more
I read these as Ee-vie too.
Are you looking to use it as a full name or a nickname? If it’s a nickname, [name]Evvie[/name] or [name]Evvy[/name] might do a better job of indicating the pronunciation. They could be a bit complicated for a full name, though.
Saying that, if I knew someone’s name was (for example) [name]Evelyn[/name], and I saw a shortened version written as [name]Evi[/name], I would probably think of the Eh-vee pronunciation straight away.
I have this same dilemma! I love the sound of EH-vee, so much more than [name]Evie[/name] (EE-vee), but I’ve always struggled with a spelling. I eventually settled on [name]Evey[/name], but I know it’ll still cause a lot of problems (especially since the full name I would use, [name]Eve[/name], has the long “EE” sound).
I’ve considered [name]Evvie[/name]/Evvey, etc., but I’ve just never liked the way it looked on paper. I think [name]Evey[/name] is cute and ages well, and she could always go by [name]Eve[/name]/[name]Evie[/name] if she wanted. I think [name]Evy[/name] might be another good way to get eh-vee, but still, I think some people would still say [name]Evi[/name]/[name]Evy[/name]/[name]Evey[/name] as EE-vie.
For what it’s worth, when I saw [name]Evi[/name] and [name]Evy[/name], I thought of “eh-vie” for both!
Good luck!
