Ewan?

I am new to posting on Nameberry but have been reading threads for a few months. [name]One[/name] name I haven’t seen really come up is [name]Ewan[/name]. Thoughts on this name? We are having a baby boy in [name]July[/name]. We already have a girl named [name]Avery[/name]. I love so many girls names but am really stumped for a boys name. DH adores the names [name]Wade[/name] and [name]Ewan[/name]. There is no way I could abide by [name]Wade[/name], all I can think of is confederate civil war general and I am just not sure about [name]Ewan[/name].

We both love [name]Liam[/name], [name]Logan[/name], [name]Benjamin[/name], or [name]Owen[/name] but they are all off the list due to being used by close relatives/friends.

We are tossing around names like [name]Nathan[/name], [name]Ian[/name], [name]Collin[/name], [name]Reid[/name], [name]Henry[/name]. I like [name]Oliver[/name] and [name]Elliot[/name] but he is iffy on those ones. I think using [name]Daniel[/name] as a middle name would be cool too, but I’m not set on it.
What if a co-worker has used one of your names? We both like [name]Evan[/name], but it has recently been used at work. I am just acquainted with her, not really friends, but is that copying? Its frustrating because I work with kids and have for 10 years. I have negative associations with so many names from that and so many more names are already taken!
But my husband is pretty set on [name]Ewan[/name]. I don’t dislike it, I’m just not sure…
Thanks for any thoughts.

My real fathers name was [name]Steven[/name] [name]Ewan[/name] so it’s a bad association for me, but besides that, I think [name]Ewan[/name] has a weird sound and is pretty close to [name]Owen[/name], and if that’s off the table, [name]Ewan[/name] is a little close for comfort maybe.

I like [name]Evan[/name] better, and i wouldn’t call it copying. She’s not your best friend or anything and [name]Evan[/name] is pretty common and popular. If her kids name was [name]Neptune[/name] or something out there and you used it, she might feel like you were copying, but I don’t think [name]Evan[/name] will be a problem.

Good luck!

I love [name]Ewan[/name]! It’s more uncommom in the US, but no matter where it is I think it’s a very handsome name and I can see it working on all sorts of boys/men. Plus it’s got a good namesakes

I like [name]Ewan[/name], probably because the first thing that comes to mind is the actor [name]Ewan[/name] [name]McGregor[/name] I think it’s a nice name.

I dislike [name]Evan[/name], but I like [name]Ewan[/name]/[name]Euan[/name].

[name]Euan[/name], [name]Owen[/name], and [name]Eoin[/name] (also pronounced [name]Owen[/name]) were all on our list, though [name]Eoin[/name] and [name]Eoghan[/name] were more my DH’s thing than mine. I think [name]Eoin[/name] would be a pain in the US but that [name]Euan[/name] is usable.

On the other hand, there’s no way a coworker using a name I liked would keep me from using it.

[name]One[/name] of my best friends just had a [name]Euan[/name]! I like it. For some reason [name]Evan[/name] sounds soap opera-ish to me.

[name]Ewan[/name] is a fine, strong Scottish name… with a great namesake in [name]Ewan[/name] [name]McGregor[/name]. I mean he was a [name]Jedi[/name] master, after all!

I love it, but can’t use it (we made a rule, no matching initials).

and I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Evan[/name] (my ds name). So much more than [name]Ewan[/name]. [name]Evan[/name] and [name]Avery[/name] is such a cute sibset! the “v” connection is great…
I don’t really care for [name]Ewan[/name] at all , even though it is just one letter difference from [name]Evan[/name]…

[name]Avery[/name] and [name]Evan[/name] gets my vote!!

[name]Evan[/name] means “The [name]Lord[/name] is [name]Gracious[/name]”

I love [name]Ewan[/name]! I do think of [name]Ewan[/name] [name]McGregor[/name], but that is not a bad thing in my mind at all haha

I actually really like [name]Ewan[/name]! I think it’s really handsome and unexpected, though I do have to admit, I prefer the spelling [name]Euan[/name].

I love [name]Ewan[/name]. It was on our short-list and I think it is a strong, handsome, uncommon name. I would [name]LOVE[/name] to meet a little [name]Ewan[/name]!

I’ve always been on the fence about [name]Ewan[/name]. I like it, but it does sound kind of like, “you win.” There are worse things to sound like, though.

I don’t like [name]Ewan[/name], I prefer [name]Owen[/name]. [name]Ewan[/name] sounds like your saying ewwww

I like [name]Euan[/name] most, but [name]Ewan[/name] is also very nice!

If he likes [name]Wade[/name]/[name]Owen[/name]/[name]Ewan[/name]/[name]Logan[/name], how about: [name]Rowan[/name], [name]Weston[/name], [name]Warren[/name], [name]Lawson[/name] or [name]Lewis[/name]?
I like the sound of [name]Avery[/name] and [name]Warren[/name] a lot!

I think you may be pronouncing it wrong, it doesn’t have the “eww” sound at all. It’s pronounced YOU-en

I absolutely looooove [name]Ewan[/name]! It’s unique enough that there won’t be five in his kindergarten class, but not so uncommon that people will never have heard of it. And it’s easy to spell! All pluses. That being said, if you like [name]Evan[/name] then use it, it has all the same good traits.

I do not care for [name]Ewan[/name] at all, but absolutely adore [name]Evan[/name]… what a difference a letter makes:-) [name]Evan[/name] is so strong and handsome!!!

I want to love [name]Ewan[/name]. My husband’s favourite grandpa’s last name was [name]MacEwen[/name] so it would be a good way to honour him. But for some reason the really hard “U” sound at the beginning is a bit off putting. It’s funny that people keep comparing it to [name]Evan[/name]. I feel that the two names have a totally different sound and feel despite only being one letter different.

Oh [name]Ewan[/name] is a very distinguished name! Certainly here in [name]Britain[/name], it’s a top 50 choice!

[name]Owen[/name] and [name]Euan[/name] are part of the same family and [name]Evan[/name] is also very handsome so if you prefer [name]Evan[/name] it is totally not copying! [name]Evan[/name] is on our list

I love [name]Ewan[/name]. It’s distinguished and adorable at the same time. If you are still on the fence about [name]Ewan[/name], what about another form of [name]John[/name]? ([name]Ewan[/name], [name]Euan[/name], [name]Owen[/name], and [name]Evan[/name] are all variations if [name]John[/name] and share the same meaning):

[name]Ivan[/name]
[name]Sean[/name]
[name]Jack[/name]
Yohan
[name]Jan[/name]
[name]Hans[/name]
[name]Johannes[/name]
[name]Johan[/name]
