I’m due in [name]June[/name] with our second girl. DH and I are taking a list of three names each with one backup name that isn’t our favorite, but we both like it enough to deal with it. Our oldest is named [name]Clementine[/name] [name]May[/name] and I love her name because although it’s a name people have heard, they haven’t necessarily met a [name]Clementine[/name], and it’s not in the top 1000 names on the most recent popularity chart. Anyway, as of right now I have my three name short list, but I’m wavering because of the popularity of the names. I would have preferred none of them be in the top 1000, but for a name I loved I’d settle for nothing in the top 500, which my third name is, and it seems like a couple of them are REALLY gaining in popularity. I’m worried no matter what I choose she’ll end up with 15 other girls with the same name in her class or that it’ll end up being a top 10 name in a few years. Anyway, sorry this is so ramble-y. I guess what I’m getting at is 1. What are your thoughts on the names? And 2. Exactly how popular will a name in the top 500 or top 1000 be? [name]How[/name] many kids will she run into with the same name? Would they be popular enough that I should reconsider using them? Or despite numbers, not as commonly used as I’m dreading? (That was way more than 2. Oops! :-P)
These are the names:
[name]Beatrice[/name] (or [name]Beatrix[/name]) “[name]Birdie[/name]” [name]Clara[/name] [name]Ann[/name]
[name]Matilda[/name] [name]Ann[/name]
[name]Eloise[/name] [name]Clara[/name] [name]Ann[/name]
I love [name]Beatrice[/name]. It’s in the top 700 and I think she would only probably meet one or two other [name]Beatrice[/name]'s during her lifetime. Names that are Nameberry popular aren’t always real life popular. I think [name]Birdie[/name] is such a cute nickname. Also, I just have to compliment [name]Clementine[/name]'s name. It’s lovely!
[name]Beatrice[/name] has show the most growth, jumping 128 spots to 707.
[name]Beatrix[/name] is currently not even in the top 1000.
[name]Matilda[/name] jumped 31 spots to 768.
[name]Eloise[/name] jumped 79 places to 449.
That said, I think [name]Eloise[/name] is going to continue to climb because she has some of the “[name]El[/name]” sound that’s popular right now. [name]Matilda[/name] is already coming back in the UK and Australia, so it’s possible that the US will pick the name up too. [name]Beatrice[/name] and [name]Beatrix[/name] are probably my favorite from your list because they have lovely histories, some great namesakes, a wonderful meaning, and just seem to have a great deal of spunk to them. I prefer [name]Beatrix[/name], but if you’re worried she’ll get epidemically popular (which, if it happens, won’t happen for at least a few years) you could always try [name]Beatriz[/name].
Thank you! Her name was SO easy, so arguing so much this time around that we decided not to even name her until she’s born has definitely been a new experience!
[name]Beatrice[/name] (although she’ll go by [name]Birdie[/name]) is by far my favorite choice, and the one I most hope we’ll get to use. At the same time it jumped from 836 in 2010 to 707 in 2011 and that makes me go  and be worried that it’ll end up super popular. The only upside to it is that she’ll go by a nickname that isn’t in the top 1000, but DH isn’t a huge fan of the name =/
[name]Beatrice[/name]/[name]Beatrix[/name] (I’m basically hoping my husband will be so astounded by my strength at pushing out his kid that he’ll let me choose, and then because I’m a wonderful wife I’ll give him a choice between the two ;)) is by far my favorite even if I did pick it because or some reason I’m obsessed with using [name]Birdie[/name], but I can’t bring myself to make it her legal name. I super love spunky names and I feel like they all fit spunky and coordinate well with [name]Clementine[/name]'s name; they don’t necessarily “match”, but they “go”. That being said, I’ve never in my life met an [name]Eloise[/name] or a [name]Beatrice[/name] and I’ve only met one [name]Matilda[/name], so it almost makes me wonder how many kids she’ll actually run into with these names despite what the numbers say if that makes any sense.
If [name]Beatrice[/name] does get popular, which I really don’t think it will, like @kala_way said, only four hundred babies were born in 2011 in the ENTIRE US!, she will have a nickname to make her unique.
Does anyone know when the 2012 SSA list will come out? I feel like seeing how much the popularity of each grew in the past year would help this decision a lot when the time comes. Then again, maybe we’ll just know what her name is when we meet her which is what I’m hoping happens.
I think [name]Beatrix[/name] will rise in the next decade because of that spunky x. I think [name]Eloise[/name] [name]Clara[/name] [name]Ann[/name] is the nicest from your 3 but I wouldn’t use [name]Ann[/name] for a middle name, it’s too old fashioned. [name]How[/name] about [name]Eloise[/name] [name]Clara[/name] [name]Mae[/name]?
Well, I only know of one [name]Beatrice[/name] and she’s 12. But I also adore the name [name]Matilda[/name], and that name isn’t in the top 500. [name]Eloise[/name] is in the top 400. They are all pretty cute though. But [name]Matilda[/name] is my favourite.
I think that [name]Eloise[/name] will be the most popular. [name]Beatrice[/name] or [name]Matilda[/name] will be a little popular, but I don’t think there will be several in your little girl’s classroom.
I’ve met little kids with all 3 of these names, but [name]Beatrice[/name] feels least popular
I actually think all 3 are still lovely. I don’t pay much attention to the numbers, but I think they could end up like a name like [name]Violet[/name], a teeny bit quirky but very pretty, sweet & usable.
I do think they’re on the rise & more usable than [name]Clementine[/name] (which I love, but I think the song puts people off of it) therefore they will be more popular
Middle names are family names and are non-negotiable Plus I think having one MN [name]May[/name] and the other [name]Mae[/name] would be a little overkill
I think [name]Beatrice[/name] is the best choice for you - I love her with [name]Clementine[/name]! I would be very surprised if [name]Beatrice[/name] became too popular for you here in the States. I see [name]Eloise[/name] being the most popular of your choices, then [name]Matilda[/name], then [name]Beatrice[/name].
I think [name]Eloise[/name] will be the most popular. It has the most melodic sound and joins the other trendy [name]El[/name]- names. Also, it has at least one celebrity connection now since [name]Denise[/name] [name]Richards[/name] named her daughter [name]Eloise[/name] last year.
Naturally it is impossible to be sure of the future popularity of a name but from a nameberry point of view the most popular name for years here has been Beatriice and it is for this reason that I would place it at the bottom of my list, however, if you were to use [name]Beatrix[/name] then I am sure that you will find few girls named [name]Beatrix[/name].
Choices
[name]Beatrice[/name], (or [name]Beatrix[/name])
[name]Matilda[/name], [name]Matilda[/name] is a favourite of mine since I am Australian (“Waltzing [name]Matilda[/name]”).
[name]Eloise[/name], I think sisters named [name]Matilda[/name] and [name]Eloise[/name] are perfection and a third sister named [name]Clara[/name] would be gorgeous.
My choices in order of preference
[name]Matilda[/name], combo of [name]Matilda[/name] [name]Georgia[/name] [name]Ann[/name]
[name]Eloise[/name], combo of [name]Eloise[/name] [name]Ann[/name] [name]Juliet[/name]
[name]Clara[/name], Combo of [name]Clara[/name] [name]Annabel[/name] [name]Wren[/name]
[name]Beatrix[/name]
With sister [name]Clementine[/name] which is a sassy kind of name I would go for [name]Matilda[/name] or [name]Beatrix[/name] (not [name]Beatrice[/name]) and although I love [name]Eloise[/name] she may be a quieter girl than the aforementioned names. I love [name]Clara[/name] too but [name]Clementine[/name] and [name]Clara[/name] don’t mix well imho.
I think they’ll all get more popular but not into the top 50. I agree that [name]Eloise[/name] will most likely be the most popular of the three, but even then, I don’t think this name appeals to everyone. It has the [name]Elle[/name] nicknames and some celeb usage. Still, I don’t see it as a top name, ever. [name]Beatrix[/name] and [name]Matilda[/name] probably won’t get as high but I have a feeling another celeb will pick one of these up at some point and make the popularity similar to that of [name]Eloise[/name]. I think they’re all great! Favs are [name]Eloise[/name] and [name]Matilda[/name]
I like [name]Beatrice[/name] [name]Clara[/name] or [name]Beatrice[/name] [name]Ann[/name]. I also love [name]Eloise[/name]. Ironically enough, my daughter’s name is [name]Clara[/name] [name]Ann[/name]!
