Hello, everyone! New to nameberry, and hoping that there may be a few here to help my husband and myself expand our girl name list. We’re trying to conceive our third and don’t have a viable name option if this one pops up as a girl! Our first two are [name]Finn[/name] (boy) and [name]Elizabeth[/name]. If our third is another boy, he will be [name]James[/name]. Our current girl options are:
[name]Cosette[/name] (my favorite, but my husband dislikes)
[name]Rhiannon[/name] (husband’s fav, but I dislike)
[name]Harriet[/name]
[name]Hazel[/name]
[name]Claudia[/name]
Clearly, we like classic, timeless, almost regal names. Any other suggestions would be welcome; we’re having a hard time finding more options we agree on!
[name]Cosette[/name] - very pretty. I like it, but don’t quite love it… I do, however, adore the association to [name]Les[/name] Miserables! That story has always been a personal favorite of mine, and I think literary connections in names are so cool.
[name]Rhiannon[/name] - I don’t dislike it, but I don’t love it, either. I definitely like [name]Cosette[/name] more! It seems a bit dated and hippy to me, for some reason. It also reminds me of the [name]Fleetwood[/name] [name]Mac[/name] song.
[name]Harriet[/name] - sweet and I think it’s classic feel fits better with [name]Finn[/name] and [name]Elizabeth[/name] (and potentially [name]James[/name]), but I’m not a huge fan. I think [name]Hattie[/name] or [name]Etta[/name] is a sweet nn though.
[name]Hazel[/name] - this is my favorite! I love her with [name]Elizabeth[/name] and she fits so well with [name]Finn[/name] and [name]James[/name], too, imo. It helps that I’ve loved [name]Hazel[/name] for a long time but I think she’s just perfect here.
[name]Claudia[/name] - I think her classic feel fits very well, too, and this would be my second choice. I think [name]Claudie[/name] and [name]Dia[/name] are cute nns for it.
[name]Sophie[/name] - my niece’s name
[name]Margaret[/name] (or [name]Margot[/name]?) - my husband doesn’t like [name]Margaret[/name] (although [name]Meg[/name] [name]Murray[/name] is one of my favorite characters in Children’s lit), and my sister has long loved the name [name]Margot[/name]. I couldn’t dream of stealing the name from her.
[name]Tabitha[/name] - This is a great option!
[name]Lucy[/name] - feels a little incomplete. Perhaps [name]Lucille[/name]?
[name]Claire[/name]/[name]Clara[/name] - I adore [name]Claire[/name], but my husband doesn’t.
[name]Juliet[/name] - I love this name. Is it too “[name]Shakespeare[/name]” to be accessible for a little girl?
[name]Olive[/name] - A new favorite, but I’m not sure my husband is on board.
[name]Matilda[/name] - Beautiful.
[name]Clementine[/name] - I love this name!
[name]Bryony[/name] - not quite my style, but beautiful.
[name]Amelie[/name] - [name]Adore[/name]!
[name]Anneliese[/name] - Wonderful! Does anyone think the spelling would be an issue in the US? Would she be called “[name]Ah[/name]-na-lease” instead of “[name]Ah[/name]-na-lee-sah”?
[name]Beatrice[/name] - a perfect name from my husband’s family, but he doesn’t like it enough to name a daughter this.
[name]Caroline[/name] - another wonderful option, but have a niece by this name already.
[name]Jane[/name] - Beautiful, and would use in a heartbeat if our last name wasn’t one syllable.
[name]Josephine[/name] - adding it now!
[name]Katherine[/name] (nn [name]Kate[/name]) - I would [name]LOVE[/name] to use this name, but have a niece named [name]Katie[/name]. Would spell it [name]Catherine[/name], though.
[name]Madeline[/name] - was on my list almost 15 years ago. [name]May[/name] need to revisit.
[name]Nora[/name]/[name]Norah[/name] - has previously been on our list in tribute to my grandmother [name]Eleanor[/name].
so many lovely sugestions here…I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Cossette[/name], and know a beautiful girl with the name.
my favs are…
[name]Lucille[/name]
[name]Sylvie[/name]
[name]Violet[/name]
[name]Seraphina[/name]
[name]Iris[/name]
[name]Maeve[/name]
[name]Florence[/name]
