I need some brainstorming power from the Nameberries! We are expecting our second and I can’t stop thinking about what we are going to name him/her. Nothing is sticking yet.
We have one son, [name]Abraham[/name] [name]Redford[/name], who we call [name]Abe[/name] and [name]Red[/name] (his hair is a strawberry blondish hue as luck would have it).
I guess we are looking for something classic/vintage/not too popular/nice nn/maybe some historic value to it…
P.S. - while we are church-goers, we did not choose [name]Abraham[/name] for its religious associations. We liked it more for its vintage, history and nn “[name]Abe[/name]” which we saw as an “all-American” like nn if that makes sense.
Although we don’t want to get into a biblical theme, we do really like [name]Elijah[/name], nn [name]Eli[/name]. Is there any way we can name a child [name]Elijah[/name], and not have to have another biblical name if we were to have a 3rd?
We do like the name [name]Henry[/name] nn [name]Hank[/name]. Problem is our last name is [name]Williams[/name]. [name]Do[/name] you think this is an issue?
We also like the name [name]Augustus[/name], nn [name]Gus[/name].
And [name]Sullivan[/name], nn [name]Sully[/name].
We like the name [name]Oliver[/name], but dont like the nn [name]Ollie[/name]/[name]Olly[/name]. And arent too thrilled on its popularity. Same with [name]Henry[/name], however, we don’t feel like [name]Hank[/name] is all that popular.
[name]Chester[/name] to us is a cat and drawers. But we do like its vintage quality.
[name]Abraham[/name] [name]Redford[/name] is a great name! I really like it!
I’m also liking suggestions [name]Augustus[/name] and [name]Octavia[/name].
Are you okay with the two “a” names with [name]Abraham[/name] and [name]Augustus[/name]?
What about [name]Augusta[/name] for a girl?
Other suggestions: [name]Eliza[/name], [name]Jane[/name], [name]Ramona[/name], [name]Leopold[/name], [name]Maxwell[/name], [name]Phineas[/name]
I’m afraid [name]Abraham[/name] and [name]Elijah[/name] as a set just screams old testament Bible. If that’s not what you’re going for, I would choose something else. You could also get the cute [name]Eli[/name] nn by using [name]Elias[/name], which I think is very cool and sounds a little less biblical.
I love [name]Henry[/name], and [name]Abraham[/name] and [name]Henry[/name] sound great together. I would definitely avoid the nn [name]Hank[/name] because of your last name… and also because I just can’t see this on a child! But maybe that’s just me!
[name]Augustus[/name] ([name]Gus[/name]) and [name]Sullivan[/name] ([name]Sully[/name]) are also very handsome and would work well with [name]Abraham[/name]. One thing to consider is that [name]Abraham[/name] and [name]Augustus[/name] both start with A and have 3 syllables, so that could pose potential issues in naming a 3rd child.
So I think my favorites of these are [name]Sullivan[/name] and [name]Henry[/name] (no nn.) Good luck!
Also for [name]Thomasina[/name], [name]Tamsin[/name] was originally a short form and can now be used as a name in its own right. What about [name]Tansy[/name] as a nn?
I don’t know if I am ok with A theme… [name]Just[/name] because I have two A names, doesnt mean that I am trapped into an A theme does it? I like [name]Augusta[/name] for a girl, I also like [name]Augustine[/name]. But, what would her nn be?
I do not like [name]Ramona[/name]. Moan-a. It sounds depressing. I like [name]Phineas[/name]! I like [name]Eliza[/name] and I like [name]Jane[/name], but I think ideally I would like a longer name for a first?? BUt I could be convinced otherwise.
I know an [name]Augusta[/name]. We call her [name]Gus[/name] and [name]Gusta[/name]. Auggie is another possible nn, but for some reason we’ve never called her that. I prefer [name]Augusta[/name] to [name]Augustus[/name], but maybe I’m biased. I feel like [name]Augusta[/name] is more vintage, whereas [name]Augustus[/name] is international.
[name]Elizabeth[/name] nn [name]Eliza[/name] is a possibility.
Unfortunately I think [name]Hank[/name] [name]Williams[/name] is a no-go. What about [name]Charles[/name] nn [name]Chuck[/name]?
As to getting locked into a Biblical theme… it might depend on how many children you’re planning on having.[/quote]
[name]Do[/name] not like nn [name]Chuck[/name], as it sounds like up-chucking, but like [name]Charlie[/name]. So thats a possibility!
We think 2-3 children max. We would like a boy and girl, but have talked about having up to 3.
[name]Theodore[/name]–[name]Teddy[/name], [name]Theo[/name]
[name]Frederick[/name]–[name]Freddy[/name]
[name]Leonard[/name]–[name]Leo[/name]
[name]Edward[/name]–[name]Ned[/name]
[name]Dashiell[/name]-[name]Dash[/name]
[name]Tobias[/name]–[name]Toby[/name]
[name]Elias[/name]–[name]Eli[/name] (like this better than [name]Elijah[/name]; not so popular)
[name]Phineas[/name]–Phin
[name]Maximillian[/name]–[name]Max[/name]
[name]Dexter[/name]–[name]Dex[/name]
[name]Malachi[/name]–[name]Mac[/name]
[name]Edison[/name]–[name]Eddie[/name]
I would totally go with [name]Augustus[/name], though; I think it works absolutely perfectly with [name]Abraham[/name] and [name]Abe[/name] and [name]Gus[/name] sound so cute together.

So I think my favorites of these are [name]Sullivan[/name] and [name]Henry[/name] (no nn.) Good luck![/quote]
What about [name]Ellis[/name]???
I like the name [name]Ellis[/name], nn [name]Eli[/name]. [name]Ellis[/name] [name]Williams[/name]. [name]Eli[/name] [name]Williams[/name], wdyt??
I do like [name]Sullivan[/name]. [name]Henry[/name], nn [name]Harry[/name]?? Does [name]Harry[/name] [name]Williams[/name] sound weird?? I just think [name]Gus[/name] is such a cute name.
I love the name [name]Ellis[/name] nn [name]Eli[/name], but not sure if there are too many ‘L’ sounds in [name]Ellis[/name] [name]Williams[/name]? [name]Sullivan[/name] nn [name]Sully[/name] is really adorable and there’s also the nn [name]Van[/name].
[name]Henry[/name] is nice but I can see other names better with [name]Abraham[/name]. But if you like [name]Harry[/name], why not [name]Harris[/name] or [name]Harrison[/name]?
But I’m really loving [name]Augustus[/name] nn [name]Gus[/name] with [name]Abe[/name] Some more suggestions:
