I’ve posted before but, now that we’re actually expecting (still really early ) and we each brought a favorite girl name into the marriage that we both like/ each brought a boy name that the other vetoed, I’m at a loss for boy names honestly and want to collect more ideas if we end up with a boy.
We both love rich meanings and literary/historical names but he likes more familiar ones (still not within the top 100 I would say) while I like more wild, fantastical ones that would still not cause my son struggles, preferably out of the top 1000 but for sure out of the top 400.
Names I like that DH has vetoed:
[name_m]Illarion[/name_m], [name_m]Romaric[/name_m], [name_m]Everard[/name_m], [name_m]Sennett[/name_m], [name_m]Cavanaugh[/name_m], [name_m]Castiel[/name_m], [name_m]Keir[/name_m], [name_m]Aneurin[/name_m], [name_m]Mordecai[/name_m]
I have vetoed [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] and [name_m]Hannibal[/name_m]
We were/still are considering Tyrian as well (I posted about it a while back) but I just don’t know yet if I can get over its probable GoT association (even though the character’s name has a different spelling as [name_m]Tyrion[/name_m], it is pronounced as I would have his name pronounced: Tier-ee-uhn)
We do have a one syllable last name that has a harsh sound in it so I would prefer longer names if possible but it’s not a must.
A few for you to peruse:
[name_m]Elysian[/name_m]
[name_m]Altair[/name_m]
[name_m]Alard[/name_m] or [name_m]Adelard[/name_m]
[name_m]Tavian[/name_m]
[name_m]Tancred[/name_m]
[name_m]Tolliver[/name_m]
Tancran Tancran
Wulfstan
[name_m]Kelwin[/name_m]
[name_m]Sabien[/name_m]
Tyrian is great, & not everyone will recognise the GoT reference so I wouldn’t worry about that, plus there’s far worse things for your name to be from/in than GoT
I think Tyrion works and feels like a really great middle spot for you guys. You’ve had lots of fab suggestions so count any repeats as me being in agreement and hopefully these names fit the brief

ooh, this is definitely tricky! As someone with a pretty picky husband, I relate lol. I love your vetoed names. Some possible ideas…
-Virgil (‘staff bearer’, latin, literary!)
-Savile/Sauville (‘from the willow farm’, french)
-Fielding (‘dweller in an open place’)
-Calder (‘rough waters, stream’, scottish)
-Melchior (‘city of the king, king of light’, dutch from hebrew, medieval fantasy vibes despite not being particularly medieval!)
-Torben (‘thor’s bear, thunder bear’, norse)
-Zuriel (‘god is my rock’, hebrew)
-Ambriel (unsure about origin but reminds me of some of your others!- potentially celtic?)
-Keaton (‘place of hawks’, ‘shed town’)
-Esbern (‘wild boar/godly bear’, norse)
-Zephyr (‘west wind’, french, classical vibes)
-Evren (‘universe’, turkish)
[name_f]My[/name_f] fear with [name_m]Tolliver[/name_m] is that he’d just be called [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] anyway. But the others, especially [name_m]Altair[/name_m], [name_m]Tiernan[/name_m], and [name_m]Tavian[/name_m] are intriguing.
Yeah, we’re not totally against it we just haven’t fully decided so I want some other options.
I like [name_m]Roald[/name_m], [name_f]Darcy[/name_f], [name_m]Augustus[/name_m], [name_m]Tynan[/name_m], [name_m]Caspian[/name_m], and [name_m]Blaise[/name_m].
I also loved Rowell but in our dialect it sounds like “roll” vs. “row-uhl”
Congratulations!
Some ideas (sorry for any repeats)
[name_m]Jorah[/name_m]
[name_m]Ignatius[/name_m]
[name_m]Emyr[/name_m]
[name_m]Kian[/name_m]
[name_m]Lucien[/name_m]
[name_m]Isildur[/name_m]
[name_m]Quentin[/name_m]
Thanks for these! He’s vetoed [name_m]Meriadoc[/name_m] and another of our names already uses “Rose” even though I do really like [name_m]Penrose[/name_m].
[name_m]Thackeray[/name_m] is solid, though. Thank you!
