Extremely satisfyingly cute made up name

Saphine. Pronounced with a VERY short ‘suh’ and then feen.

Suh feen. I just made it up, and I am falling in love with it as a middle name and a shortening of [name]Josephine[/name] or Sophina.

What do you think?

I once came up with Sephine / Sephina by contracting [name]Seraphine[/name]/a, but it was just a fleeting thought. It’s a lovely nn for [name]Josephine[/name]!

I like Saphine (sah-feen) as a diminutive for [name]Sapphira[/name]

I like it. It doesn’t sound trendy made up to me. It almost sounds like it could be an old rarely used name. Pretty. Reminds me of [name]Sabine[/name] which I adore.

Ooh, I like!

I rarely like made up names but I like it! I thought of it as a diminutive of [name]Sapphira[/name] but I can see how it would be a very sweet diminutive of [name]Josephine[/name] as well. Either way, I agree it doesn’t sound like one of those trendy smushes or contractions. It sounds like it could be an old vintage gem that people just haven’t heard before.

I have seen Saphine as a nn on another board I post on but I’m not sure if it’s a legitimate name. I thought it was the French spelling of Saphena like the vein in your leg but I think that’s Saphène but it is a pretty sounding word.

There’s something I can’t place about Saphine, it’s familiar but I have no clue what I’m thinking of, if I think of any interesting info on the word/name I will let you know!

It reminds me of French names like [name]Delphine[/name]. The problem I might have is I would say it sa-feen (the A like in [name]Sapphire[/name]).

Oooh yes, I absolutely love [name]Sabine[/name]!

For me, Saphine immediately brought to mind ‘sapphic’: not saying that’s a negative thing, just reporting.

Saphine sounds similar but softer to [name]Satine[/name], a guilty pleasure name of mine from Moulin Rouge (not allowed to name my daughter after a ‘lady of the night’ according to SO). Very nice and feminine, flows well!

Remind me of [name]Satine[/name] which in turn reminds me of Moulin Rouge.
