Eyelet?

I’ve always been a fan of unusual baby names… is Eyelet taking it a bit too far?

Eyelet as in eyelet lace. I love sewing and eyelet lace is beautiful and graceful, to me.

Are you thinking of [name_f]Ayelet[/name_f], the Hebrew name? It’s not pronounced the same-- It’s pronounced [name_m]AH[/name_m]-YE-LET and means “[name_f]Gazelle[/name_f]” in Hebrew. The most famous [name_f]Ayelet[/name_f] is [name_f]Ayelet[/name_f] Waldman, an author.

[name_m]Ive[/name_m] always loved [name_f]Ayelet[/name_f]

I love [name_f]Ayelet[/name_f], the Hebrew name. Despite the similarity, Eyelet doesn’t really do anything for me.

I love [name_f]Ayelet[/name_f], but Eyelet looks weird to my eyes, sorry.

I think Eyelet is cute. Its unique but not too out there.

[name_f]Ayelet[/name_f] is lovely.

I think so… it might be [name_f]Ayelet[/name_f]…

I’m not sure about Eyelet. An eyelet to me is one of the holes at the top of a curtain, I can’t picture it is a name. If you like that sound though, maybe you would like [name_f]Violet[/name_f].

This. It’s a thing not a name.

Unusual is a fine quality in a name. Eyelet goes beyond the extraordinary and heads into space. It’s a dainty thing not a strong woman name.

I love the name Eyelet, and I would pronounce [name_f]Ayelet[/name_f] the same way (regardless of how it is pronounced in hebrew). Another possibility is Islet, which is also a thing (small island) but sounds the same. Very similar to [name_f]Isla[/name_f], but more unique and I like it better.

Eyelet is not a name. [name_f]Ayelet[/name_f] is, but it always reminds me of ‘eye lid’.

“Eyelets” are the metal things you lace your shoestrings through on your sneakers. They’re also called “grommets”. I don’t think either word makes a very good name. It’s not the sound so much as it’s just a strange word meaning to call someone after.

[name_f]Ayelet[/name_f] is rather pretty, though.

Is Eyelet too far out there? Simply – yes. [name_m]Even[/name_m] though my tastes error on the side of conservative, I think even by more liberal naming standards Eyelet is too weird. Other have made some nice suggestions.

I like a lot of unusual word names, but Eyelet is a little to out there for me. I think of an eye lid when I hear it.
